Franklin 'Dickie' Simms
Franklin "Dickie" Simms, 60, 641 Hunter St., died Friday morning, Nov. 21, 1997, at his residence after a month of declining health.
Born Nov. 4, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Charlie Simms and Nettie Martin Simms.
On Dec. 15, 1962, he was married
to Bettie Arthur Simms, who survives.
A resident of Danville for most of his life, he was the owner and operator of Simms Well Drilling. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Tammy Lunita Simms of Danville; four sons, Barry F. Simms and Chad S. Simms, both of Danville, and Dennie F. Simms and Timmy L. Simms, both of Pelham, N.C.; four sisters, Louise Kimbrough of Greenville, S.C., and Ruby Scott and Juanita Hill, both of Danville, and Revonda McMahan of Radford; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John C. Gentry. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Robert Castle
CHATHAM - Robert Wade Castle, 89, of 3949 Banister Road, died Friday afternoon, Nov. 21, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for three years.
Born March 10, 1908, in Laurel Springs, he was the son of John Harvey Castle and Susie Thomas Castle. He was the stepson of Mandy Cassell Castle.
He spent most of his life in the Schoolfield area of Danville and at Wake Forest, N.C. For 23 years, he worked for Dan River Inc. He retired from Royal Cotton Mill at Wake Forest, N.C.
Castle was of the Baptist faith and was the last surviving member of his family.
He was married
to Fannie Wann Castle, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Douglas L. Castle of Chatham; two daughters, Doris Flinchum of Dry Fork and Delores Marshall of Wake Forest, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy C. Stilwell.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at the Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Gilbert Hawks and the Rev. Charlie Cundiff. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Virgie Hall
Virgie Bowman Hall, 82, of 195 Ranch Drive, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 22, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for many years.
Born Feb. 22, 1915, at Meadows of Dan, she was a daughter of Robert H. "Bob" Bowman and Betty Smith Bowman.
She had spent most of her life in Danville. Before retiring on disability, she worked for Dan River Inc.
She was a member of Central Boulevard Church of God.
On April 29, 1939, she was married
to Robert Forest Hall, who survives. She was the last member of her generation of the family.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Betty Carolyn Hall Willis of Danville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Monday at Central Boulevard Church of God by the Rev. John H. Meadows and the Rev. Tim Nuckels. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the church and other times at the residence.

Hurley Aherron
Hurley Aherron, 77, of 13172 Old Richmond Road, Keeling, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born June 5, 1920, in Halifax County, he was a son of Issiah P. Aherron and Mamie Conner Aherron.
He had lived in Rustburg and for the last 20 years he lived with his nephew, Tommy Aherron, in Keeling.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for T & T Oil Company.
He attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and served in Naples, Rome and the Rhineland.
Survivors include four sisters, Hester Stump of Liberty, N.C., Helen Wyatt, Jeanette Kendrick and Alice Teague, all of Danville; and a brother, Herman Aherron of Chester.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Hugh Aherron, Jack Aherron, Percy Aherron, Willie Aherron and Ed Aherron; and two sisters, Janie Barker and Eva Aherron.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Tom Erwin, the Rev. James Albert and the Rev. Kenneth Hall. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 325.
The family will receive friends 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Robie Dalton
MARTINSVILLE - Robie Norman Dalton, 80, of Spruce Park Lot #7, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at Martinsville Convalescent Center.
Born May 19, 1917, in Floyd, he was a son of Hosie L. Dalton and Larmie Simpkins Dalton.
He was married
to Edith Thomas Dalton.
He was retired from Cone Mills in Reidsville, N.C., where he had worked for 33 years.
He was a member of Southside Independent Baptist Church, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sisters, Iva Bryant of Danville and Gloria Rabe of Eden, N.C.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Gomie Dalton, Verniel Dalton and Carl Dalton; and a sister, Thelma Meadows.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at McKee-Stone Funeral Chapel, Martinsville, by the Rev. Donald Thomas and the Rev. Gregory Thomas. Interment will be in Henry Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Ruby Eanes
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Ruby Pinson Eanes, 94, of 610 Butler Springs Road, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at St. Francis Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Ninety Six, S.C., she was the daughter of John Augustus Pinson and Minnie Estelle Turner Pinson.
She was married
to James Edward Eanes Sr.
She lived in Danville, Va., for many years, where she was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
She retired from Belk Simpson after 30 years of service. She was a charter member of Francis Asbury Methodist Church and was a member of Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Moore of Greenville; a son, James Edward Eanes of Simpsonville; and six grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Joe Pinson Eanes.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, by the Rev. John Crawford. Burial will be in Graceland East Memorial Park, section E.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
