Angel Moser
CHATHAM - Angel Denise Moser, infant, 393 Woodlawn Academy Road, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 17, 1997, in Danville, she was a daughter of Dennis Moser and Sabrina Moser, who survive.
She is also survived by a sister, Casey Moser of the residence; paternal grandparents, Ann and Leon Moser of Chatham; and maternal grandparents, Joan and Jack Milam of Keeling.
A graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at the Church of God of Prophecy in Java on state road 832 by the Rev. Albert Moser.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Cora Worley
HURT - Cora Shelton Worley, 95, 215 Dogwood Lane, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1902, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of George Shelton and Hesterann Adell Willis Shelton.
She was married
to Orden Worley, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Greenbay Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Harold E. Worley of Chatham; two daughters, Mable Barbour and Lorene St. John, both of Hurt; a sister, Ocie Doss of Altavista; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenbay Christian Church by the Rev. Rudy A. Hearn, the Rev. J.D. Hunt III and the Rev. Lory Brafford. Interment will be in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of her son, 380 Greenbay Road, Chatham.
J. Gibson Morrison
SADDLE RIVER, N.J. - J. Gibson Morrison, 82, formerly of Axton, Va., died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at Martinsville Health and Rehabilitation Center, Martinsville, Va.
Born May 25, 1915, in New York, he was the son of Augustus Morrison and Ruth Kerlin Morrison.
He was married
to Betty Magee Morrison, who predeceased him.
He retired in 1979 from Richardson Merrill and Carter Wallace Hycel Corp., where he had worked with corporate acquisitions and mergers.
During World War II, he served in U.S. Army and received the bronze star medal during the Italian campaign in 1943. He was a member of 439 AA Battalion and was the highest ranking survivor.
He was a member of NY Seventh Regiment, Union League Club, Phi Gamma Delta and Sons of the American Revolution. He was a former member of Maroon Council of Colgate University.
He also served on the zoning board and police commission of Saddle River.
Survivors include a son, Andrew Hamilton Morrison of Axton; and two grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Morrison.
A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Church of Epiphany in Danville, Va., by the Rev. James W. Mathieson. Burial will be in Forest Lawn in West Chester, N.Y.

James Payne
CHATHAM - Leroy James Payne, 92, 520 Cherrystone Road, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at his residence.
Born Oct. 16, 1905, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Lee H. Payne and Carrie Booker Payne.
He was married
to Bessie Hart Payne, who survives.
He was a member of Watson Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a former church Sunday school superintendent, treasurer and teacher.
He was a Rotarian and a member of Chatham Beautification Committee.
For 47 years, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. Prior to his retirement, he was postmaster in Chatham.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Betty June P. Knaub of Hampton, Patricia P. Hoover of Springfield and Virginia "Ginger" P. Ripley of Midlothian; two brothers, William Payne of Wilmington, N.C., and Reuben H. Payne of Dry Fork; three sisters, Evelyn P. Stowe of Dry Fork, Mae P. Thomas of Danville and Louise P. Hubbard of Chatham; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Pollok
URBANNA - Elizabeth W. Pollok, 94, formerly of Danville, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997.
She was married
to Nicholas L. Pollok Jr.
In 1969, she retired from the federal government.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Nicholas L. Pollok III of Frederick, Md., and Benton H. Pollok of Urbanna; a daughter, Connie P. Conway of Vero Beach, Fla.; a sister, Katherine W. Parker of Vero Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Monday in Green Hill cemetery, Danville.

Layton Bacon
PIERSON, Fla. - Layton Percy Bacon, formerly of Danville, Va., died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997.
Born May 13, 1916, in Bryan County, Ga., he was a son of Albert Sidney Bacon Sr., and Erie Bertie Lanier Bacon.
He was married
to Ann Pendergrass Bacon, formerly of Danville, Va., who survives.
A graduate of Bryan County High School, he attended Georgia Teacher's College, now Georgia Southern University.
He was an Army Air Force Master Sergeant, and served in New Guinea during World War II. He received the Bronze Star from the War Department for Meritorious Achievement as a Chief Airplane Mechanic, keeping planes flying during the period from Nov. 1, 1942 to Sept. 12, 1943 with exceptional quality especially during the Battle of the Bismark Sea. He was instrumental in founding the first NCO Club.
He lived in Danville from 1964 to 1979. He was a former co-owner of Bacon Enterprises Inc., Kentucky Fried Chicken. He had been a resident of Florida for the past 15 years.
He was a member of Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He was a past president of the Southeastern Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchisee Association Inc.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Bonny B. Shelton and Beth B. Boles, both of Danville, Va.; a stepson, David Wayne Grubb of Deland, Fla.; a sister, Catherine B. Brown of Pembroke, Ga.; two brothers, Thomas Hoynes Bacon Sr. of Pembroke, Ga., and Albert Sidney Bacon Jr. of Statesboro, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Layton Percy "Buddy" Bacon Jr.; a grandson, Paul Layton "Buddy" Shelton; a brother, Harry M. Bacon of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Elizabeth B. Geyer of Pembroke, Ga.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. from Fairview United Methodist Church by the Rev. Larry Edmonds. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 325.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence of Bill and Bonny Shelton, 6271 Riverside Drive.
Margaret Keffer
AXTON - Margaret Still Keffer, 48, 5215 Medical Center Road, died early Friday morning, Nov. 21, 1997, at her residence after a two-year decline in health.
Born March 8, 1949, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Walker Still and Margaret Smith Still.
She was married
to William E. Keffer, who survives.
A life-long resident of the Anderson Heights community of Pittsylvania County, she was a member of Anderson Chapel United Methodist Church, and also a member of Anderson Heights Homemakers Club.
She attended Patrick Henry Community College, and worked in quality control at Tultex Industry in Martinsville for 25 years.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Still of Seattle and Nancy Still Adkins of New Bern, N.C.; and a brother, Warren L. Still of Axton.
She was predeceased by a son, Jason Walker Keffer, who died in 1987.

Lila McGuire
Lila Minter McGuire, 89, of the Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville and formerly of Axton, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997.
Born Aug. 2, 1908, in Henry County, she was a daughter Thomas Wiley Minter and Betty Pace Minter.
She was married
to Charlie D. McGuire Sr., who died in 1978.
She was a member of Axton Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie D. McGuire Jr. of Bassett and Harvey R. McGuire of Mount Dora, Fla.; a daughter, Jackie Byrd of Axton; a brother, Richard "Dick" Minter of Ridgeway; three sisters, Alma Scearce and Ada Pulliam, both of Martinsville, and Dorothy Corum of Eden, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at McKee-Stone Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Roselawn Burial Park.
