Vivian Yates
CHESTERFIELD - Vivian Alderson Yates, 89, formerly of Sutherlin, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1996, in Lucy Corr Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 19, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charlie H. Alderson and Harriett White Alderson.
On Dec. 28, 1924, she was married
to John Robert Yates, who died June 13, 1987.
She was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Frances Y. Hay of Richmond; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Linwood K. Alderson.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. David Henry.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home in Danville.
Frances McGee
Frances Hudson McGee, 78, formerly of Route 1, Pelham, N.C., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996, in Riverside Health Care Center, following three months of declining health.
Born Oct. 1, 1918, in Danville, she was a daughter of Charlie Hudson and Claudia Pigg Hudson.
On Feb. 3, 1939, she was married
to Johnnie Neal McGee, who died Jan. 11, 1982.
She spent all her life in Pelham, where she worked for the Belk-Leggett Company for 22 years as a sales clerk.
She was a member of Pelham United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Mae Gerringer Bible Class, and the church choir, and had served as a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Golden Girls and the Senior Citizen's of Pelham.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Neal McGee and James Howard McGee, both of Pelham; a sister, Doris H. Abernathy, of Hickory, N.C.; two brothers, Charles Ed Hudson and Howard Hudson, both of Danville, 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Pelham United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael B. Harrill. Burial will be in the Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at the Wrenn-Yeatts, North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of her son, Thomas Neal McGee, Route 1, Box 873, Pelham, N.C.
Margaret Franklin Bridges
Margaret Franklin Bridges, 80, 845 Arnett Blvd., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996, at Elder Care of Franklin County in Rocky Mount.
Born July 14, 1916, in Danville, she was the daughter of John A. Franklin and Bettie White Franklin.
On Aug. 19, 1937, she was married
to Garland E. Bridges, who died on March 20, 1993.
She was a member of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty B. Goodman and Frances B. Jefferson, both of Danville; one sister, Edith F. Gibbs of Hampton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. John Meadows. The family will receive friends today at the residence. Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret Bridges
Margaret Franklin Bridges, 80, of 845 Arnett Blvd., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996, at Elder Care of Franklin County in Rocky Mount.

Ruby Talley
Ruby Harris Talley, 68, of 137 Franklin Court, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following two years of declining health.
Born May 10, 1928, in Axton, she was a daughter of Alonza Harris and Martha Sue Stegall Harris Pruitt.
She was first married
to Ernest McDaniel, who died March 28, 1963. On Oct. 19, 1972, she was married
to Kenneth Talley Sr., who survives.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. She was also a member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Kaye McDaniel Snead of Danville; two step-sons, Kenneth Talley Jr. of Goddard, Kan. and John Tucker; three sisters, Oretha "Sissy" Pruitt and Evelyn Burgess, both of Axton, and Ann Bowers of Martinsville; four brothers, Walter Harris and Junior Pruitt, both of Axton, Leonard Harris of Ridgeway, and Bobby Pruitt of Martinsville; and nine grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Harris, and a sister, Mamie Sue Case.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday from Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roy Newton. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Brack Wiles
Brack Hite Wiles, 82, 173 Arnett Blvd., died Sunday, Oct. 13, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born Sept. 21, 1914, in Ashe County, N.C., he was a son of William Hampton Wiles and Cora May Caldwell Wiles.
He was married
to Eula Hines Wiles, who died Nov. 21, 1991.
He spent most of his life in Danville. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Fieldcrest Mills as a fixer in the card room. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Elwood Wiles of Danville; a step-daughter, Shirley Goins of Mebane, N.C.; three sisters, Tinsey Farrington of Winston-Salem, N.C., Martha Hudler of Sarasota, Fla., and Rachel Rust of Danville; one grandchild; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday from Highland Burial Park by Gordon Shelton. The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of his son, 169 Arnett Blvd.
Norman Farmer
Norman Victor Farmer, 90, 937 N. Main St., died Sunday, Oct. 13, 1996, in Martinsville Convalescent Home.
Born Oct. 23, 1905, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Walter E. Farmer and Isabell Guard Farmer.
He was married
to Beulah C. Farmer, who survives.
He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Shirley F. Dorien and Peggy F. King, both of Charlottesville; a son, N. Larry Farmer of Keeling; two sisters, Emma F. Dawson and Florence F. Sarsfield, both of Lynchburg; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday from Ft. Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg by the Rev. Lee D. Ellison.

Emma Hood
RINGGOLD - Emma Parker Hood, 80, 408 Witcher Road, died Friday, Oct. 11, 1996, in Stratford Health Care Center.
Born July 5, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Washington Parker and Julie Oliver Parker.
She was married
to Homer Hood, who survives.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by United States Steel Co.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Edward Hood of the residence; two daughters, Delores Hood of Newark, N.J., and Patricia Coleman of Seven Lakes, N.C.; two brothers, Plas Parker of Ringgold and Fleming Parker of Danville; two sisters, Lucindia Cunningham of Ringgold and Dorothy Smith of Danville; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday from Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Howard Graves. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Alice Elizabeth Thomas Luck, 68, 108 Carver Drive, died Friday, Oct. 11, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 16, 1928, in Pelham, N.C., she was a daughter of William and Nettie Thomas.
She was married
to the Rev. Bedford Luck Sr., who survives.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Southern Process.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three sons, Bedford Luck Jr. of Lynchburg, Mark O. Luck of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Carl B. Luck of Danville; three daughters, Martha McLaughlin, Janice E. Wilson and Gayle L. Beck, all of Danville; three sisters, Ada Mae Foster of Lynchburg, Bertha Swann of Pelham, N.C., and Odessa Watt of Reidsville, N.C.; four brothers, Robert Thomas and Herman Thomas, both of Durham, N.C., Australia Thomas of Norfolk, and Lee Thomas of Saginaw, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Elroy Luck.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday from Camp Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. W.J. Toomer. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Ella McDaniel
Ella Crowder McDaniel, 92, formerly of Heritage Towers, died Monday, Oct. 14, 1996, in the residence of her daughter, 3105 Countryside Drive, Ringgold. She had been in declining health for the past four months.
Born May 12, 1904, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Conway Crowder and Dollie Cornelia Owen Crowder.
She was married
to Charlie Bernard McDaniel, who predeceased her.
She spent most of her life in Pittsylvania County. Before moving to her daughter's home four months ago, she lived at Heritage Towers for six years.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. in the No. 3 Spinning Room.
She was also of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth M. Phelps of Ringgold; a son, Frank J. McDaniel of Danville; a brother, Fred Crowder of Danville; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ira D. Yeatts, Nathan C. McDaniel, and Frank H. McDaniel. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
