Myrtle Scarce
DRY FORK - The funeral for Myrtle Walton Scarce, 88, 4207 Whitmell School Road, will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. George S. Riggins III. Burial will be in the Walton Family cemetery in Whitmell.
She died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996, in Stratford Health Center, following three months of declining health.
Born June 22, 1908, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Eugene Gilbert Walton and Irene James Payne.
On Dec. 20, 1924, she was married
to Earley Garland Scarce, who died June 22, 1951.
She spent her entire life in Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker.
She attended Whitmell Farm Life School. She was also a member of Whitmell United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Earlene S. Bliss of Danville; a son, James Ray Scarce of Madison, Tenn.; a brother, Eugene I. Walton of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Estelle W. Ashworth of Danville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her daughter, 219 North Woodberry Ave., Danville.
Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Eugene Smith
GRETNA - Eugene Henry Smith, 78, 315 Chaney Lane, died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996, in Gretna.
Born Sept. 2, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Charlie Smith and Georgie Dodson Smith.
He was married
to Veola D. Smith, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an electrician.
He was a member of Elba Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board, a trustee, church treasurer and a member of the Senior Choir.
He was also a member of Gretna Town Council, Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce and Gretna Merchants' Association. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Cherrystone Missionary Baptist Association and served as a volunteer for the American Heart Association.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Henry Smith of Rustburg and Ronald Smith of Gretna; a daughter, Betty Johnson of Washington D.C.; a brother, Thomas Smith of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Florence Haley of Norwalk, Conn.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Smith Gutherie.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday from Elba Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. B.I. Baize. Burial will be in Elba cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Gretna, and other times at the residence.
Doris Harris
CHATHAM - Doris Atkinson Harris, 75, 269 Beverly Heights Road, died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville.
Born June 21, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Ernest Atkinson and Maude Keesee Atkinson.
She was married
to Nathan A. Harris, who survives.
She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Patricia June H. Johnson of Blairs; a brother, Roy Atkinson of Chatham; a sister, Jean A. Chamblin of Chatham; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. James Bullock. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham, and other times at the residence.
Paul Jones
CANNON FALLS, Minn. - Paul Campbell Jones, 88, formerly of Danville, Va., died Tuesday evening, Oct. 22, 1996, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Red Wing.
Born June 5, 1908, in Sherman, Ill., he was the son of Ralph and Edith Campbell Jones.
For nearly 46 years, he was married
to Charlotte Woods Jones, who survives.
He attended school in Jacksonville, Ill., and graduated from high school in Winchester, Ill.
A graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, he worked for many years as an electrician. He later worked at the University of Minnesota Research Center at Rosemount.
He retired and moved to Danville, Va., in 1978. In 1989, he moved to Cannon Falls.
He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and was a current member of the Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge in Danville, Va. He was a a 32nd degree mason and also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Danville, Va.
He was a member of the Illinois Odd Fellows for more than 50 years, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 110, in St. Paul. Other memberships included Lions Clubs in Danville, Rosemount, and the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls.
In addition to his wife of Cannon Falls, survivors include two daughters, Norma Vierk of Lansing, Ill., and Susan Christianson of New Hope; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Jones and James Jones, and a sister, Martha Hamilton.
A private funeral was conducted Oct. 25 at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Interment was in Cherry Valley cemetery in Stanton Township.
Faye Robinson
Faye Towler Robinson, 59, 118 Beavers Mill Road, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 9, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James B. Towler and Adeline Matthews Towler.
She was employed by Dan River Mills Inc. as an inspector. She was also a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Frentress C. Robinson of Charlotte, N.C., and Joyce Regina Robinson of Salem; a brother, James C. Towler of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Estella Falden of Danville; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The body may be viewed 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the residence of her sister, 108 Beavers Mill Road.

RINGGOLD - Tammy Pruitt Scearce, 33, 904 Fall Creek Road, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1996, at her residence.
Born July 13, 1963, in Danville, she was a daughter of Jackie Lee Pruitt Sr. and Linda Bartee Pruitt, who survive.
She was married
to Wilbur G. Scearce, who is also deceased.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area, where she was employed as a waitress. She was also of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents of the residence, she is survived by a son, Timothy Agnor of Ringgold; a daughter, Kathrine Agnor of Ringgold; and a brother, Jackie Lee Pruitt Jr. of Mount Cross Road.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Swicegood Chapel by the Rev. Hylton Lawrence Jr. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-9 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Wilbur Scearce
RINGGOLD - Wilbur Gilbert Scearce, 35, State Route 732, died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996.
Born Oct. 22, 1961, in Danville, he was a son of Elizabeth B. Scearce, who survives, and James L. Scearce Sr.
He was married
to Tammy Pruitt Scearce, who is also deceased.
He was a graduate of Rockingham County Schools in North Carolina. He also attended Rockingham Community College and Danville Community College.
He was employed by Servitex. He was also a member of Victory Baptist Church in Sutherlin.
In addition to his mother, survivors include a son, Michael Ryan Scearce of Pelham, N.C.; a brother, Tommy L. Scearce of Pelham, N.C.; and a sister, Karen S. Johnston of Danville.
He was predeceased by a brother, Len Scearce Jr. and a sister, Phyllis S. Smith.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Hylton Lawrence Jr. and the Rev. Daryl Joyce. Burial will be in the Cook, Sigmon, and Scearce cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his mother, 222 Courtland St., Holiday Village, Apartment 210.
Doris Bousman
Doris Mae Bousman, 87, died Saturday night, Oct. 26, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Jan. 23, 1909, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Robert Giles Bousman Sr. and Nannie Mae Walker Bousman.
She worked for the Danville Lumber Co. for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Travis C. Bousman of Danville, William J. Bousman of North Hollywood, Calif., and Carlton W. Bousman Sr. of Clarksville, Tenn; three sisters, Georgia B. Gourley of Penhook, Matilda B. Turbiville of Danville and Nancy B. Breckenridge of New York, N.Y.
The graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. T.A. Pollard.
The family will be at the residence of her sister, Matilda B. Turbiville, 172 College Ave.

Dora Scearce
The funeral for Dora Megginson Scearce, 79, of 2883 Westover Dr., will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, by the Rev. Linwood Daniel. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
She died Friday, Oct. 25, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for one year.
Born Feb. 14, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charles Edward Megginson and Nellie George Megginson.
On May 27, 1933, she married
Jasper (J.E.) Edward Scearce.
She spent her entire life in Danville, where she worked as secretary and bookkeeper for more than 18 years in the family-owned business, J.E. Scearce & Sons General Contractors.
She was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Kaye Woodall Rogers of Danville; two sons, Charles E. Scearce and J. David Scearce, both of Danville; one brother, Maynard Megginson of Keeling; two sisters, Kathleen M. Widdifield and Gaynell M. Peters, both of Danville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Floyd Tate
Floyd Abner Tate, 70, of 1529 Kentuck Road, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1996, at his home. He had been in declining health for seven months.
Born Feb. 27, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Gurby L. Tate and Mary Hall Tate, who survives.
He spent his entire life in Pittsylvania County, where he had retired from the House of Beverages, Inc. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was of the Baptist faith and a member of American Legion Post 325 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 647.
On Dec. 19, 1947, he was married
to Mary Smith Tate, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include his mother of Danville; one daughter, Judy T. Emerson of Danville; one brother, Preston A. Tate of Ringgold; one sister, Clara T. Ferguson of Ringgold; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. John Young and the Rev. Mark Blair. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 325.
The family will be at the residence.
