Margaret Lloyd
A graveside service for Margaret A. Lloyd, 70, 44 Oak Ridge Ave., will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Delton Agnor.
She died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born Feb. 15, 1926, in Columbia, Tenn., she was a daughter of Daniel Lloyd and Mary Waddy Lloyd.
She served in the U.S. Air Force as airman first class for eight years. She was later employed by Dan River Inc. in the research department before retiring on disability in 1979.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, D.A.V., and Andy T. Gammon D.A.V. Post 19.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary L. Bell of Danville and Virginia Katherine Midgett of Aiken, S.C.; and three brothers, William E. Lloyd of Danville, Eldridge B. Lloyd of Walnut Cove, N.C., and George W. Lloyd of Wilmington, N.C.
She was predeceased by a sister, Lillie P. Lloyd, and a brother, Daniel Lloyd.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Milton Moran
The funeral for Milton Velver Moran, 84, 144 Longview Ave., will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Westover Church of God by the Rev. Griffin Duncan, the Rev. Robert Mitzelfelt and the Rev. Bill B. Motley II. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
He died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health since 1991.
Born Aug. 22, 1912, in Patrick County, he was a son of Clarence Moran and Ettero Compton Moran.
He was married
to Dovie Cockram Moran, who survives.
He lived in the Pelham, N.C., community for six years. He later moved to the Westover Hills community, where he lived for 49 years.
He was a farmer, but later worked as a doffer in the No. 1 Weave Room at Dan River Inc. for many years.
He was also a member of Westover Church of God.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Ethel Marie Wilson and Gladys Moran Jones, both of Westover Hills; a son, Herman Milton Moran of Mount Hermon; two sisters, Veda Cook of Brosville and Sadie Cox of Pelham, N.C.; three brothers, Sebert Moran of Christiansburg, Jessie Moran and Bruce Moran, both of Danville; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Walter Murdock Jr.
Walter Raleigh Murdock Jr., 70, of 300 Sycamore St., died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 20, 1926, in Danville, he was the son of Walter Murdock Sr. and Mary Coleman Murdock.
He was married
to Ruby Williams Murdock.
He was employed by the commonwealth of Virginia's Alcoholic Beverage Control.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Renee Murdock Tucker of Danville; one sister, Miriam Jones of Columbia, Md.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Cerenus Churn. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. American Legion Post 325 honor guard will provide military honors.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Edward Donnell
CHATHAM - Edward L. Donnell, 53, 500 Strader Road, died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996, in the Veterans Hospital of Roanoke.
Born Oct. 17, 1943, in New York, he was a son of Lenna Banks Donnell, who survives, and William L. Donnell.
He served in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an airplane mechanic.
In addition to his mother of the residence, he is survived by two brothers, Horace Donnell of New York and Kenneth Donnell of Chatham; and a sister, Phoebe Donnell of the Bronx, N.Y.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Cherrystone Baptist Church by the Rev. Floyd O. Jones. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Letcher Edwards
GRETNA - Letcher Eldridge Edwards, 86, 976 Cotton Patch Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, in his residence.
Born Aug. 3, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Eldridge Andrew "Sam" Edwards and Ethel Davis Edwards.
For 63 years, he was married
to Hazel Hedrick Edwards, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Chatham Division of the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was also a farmer.
He was a member of West End Church of Christ. He was also a member of Snow Creek Masonic Lodge No. 90 A.F. & A.M. for 50 years.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Marie Edwards Burnette of Gretna; two sisters, Durelle E. Berry and Lucille Anna Edwards, both of Danville; and one grandchild.
He was predeceased by a brother, Harston Edwards, and a sister, Estelle E. Jefferson.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Colbert-Moran Chapel in Gretna by the Rev. David C. Derby and Rudy A. Hearn, minister. Interment will be in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his daughter, 940 Cotton Patch Road, Gretna.
Myrtle Harper
GRETNA - Myrtle Shelton Harper, 82, 802 Leftwich St., died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 31, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Henderson Shelton and Pattie Meadows Shelton.
She was married
to James E. Harper, who survives.
She was a member of Gretna Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Irene Brumfield Younger of Chatham; two brothers, Odie Shelton and Eugene Shelton, both of Gretna; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Gretna Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Jerry Blevins. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home in Gretna, and other times at the residence.
Stella Hiatt
CHATHAM - Stella Powell Hiatt, of Oak Grove Lodge, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
She was a native of Pittsylvania County.
She spent her entire life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Mills Inc. She was also of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a son, Danny Hiatt of Danville; a sister, Florence Saunders of Danville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd W. Hiatt, and a son, Floyd Eugene Hiatt.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Route 6, Box 602, Danville.

Zery Poole
Zery Hazel Poole, 74, 120 Winslow St., died Friday, Oct. 25, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 27, 1922, in Yanceyville, N.C., he was a son of King David Poole and Millie Gunn Poole.
Survivors include a son, Donald Poole of Yanceyville, N.C.; two brothers, Lee Poole and Avis Poole, both of Yanceyville, N.C.; two sisters, Alice P. Johnson of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Mary Graves of Yanceyville, N.C.; a step-sister, Virginia G. Gentry of Blanch, N.C.; four step-brothers, William Graves of Mebane, N.C., Nathaniel Graves of Greensboro, N.C., Albert Graves of Newport News, and Gennie Graves of Hampton; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Sassafras Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Yanceyville, N.C., by the Rev. Carl Biglow. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing and wake will be held 7-8 tonight at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the residence of Loretta Harris, 378 Cumberland Drive, Danville.
Faye Robinson
The funeral for Faye Towler Robinson, 59, 118 Beavers Mill Road, will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
She died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 9, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James B. Towler and Adeline Matthews Towler.
She was employed by Dan River Mills Inc. as an inspector. She was also a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Frentress C. Robinson of Charlotte, N.C., and Joyce Regina Robinson of Salem; a brother, James C. Towler of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Estella Falden of Danville; and one grandchild.
The body may be viewed 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the residence of her sister, 108 Beavers Mill Road.
Mike Saunders Sr.
PENHOOK - Michael R. "Mike" Saunders, 67, 667 Bull Run Trail, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, in his residence.
Born Feb. 7, 1929, in Martinsville, he was a son of Perry Garvin Saunders and Elsie Crenshaw Saunders.
He was married
to Sandra Moon Saunders, who survives.
He was a member of Christ Community Church in Penhook.
He served in the Navy and was a member of American Legion Post No. 325 in Danville.
In 1951, he began working at Saunders Lumber Co. for his father and uncle. By 1982, he had purchased the company. In 1989, he retired and moved to Smith Mountain Lake in Penhook.
In addition to his wife of Penhook, survivors include two sons, Michael R. Saunders Jr. of Gretna and Monte D. Saunders of Danville; a daughter, Kimberly S. Shields of Dry Fork; two step-daughters, Robin E. Hughes of Roxboro, N.C., and Lisa G. English of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a step-son, James E. English of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; a brother, Perry G. Saunders of Casselberry, Fla.; six sisters, Jill S. Henderson of Birmingham, Ala., Perry Anne S. Gibson, Nikki S. Wilson, and Peg S. Mayhew, all of Chatham, Robin S. Williams of Lynchburg, and Pat S. Tyree of Danville; five grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Clyde Maxey Saunders, and two sisters, Jacqueline W. Harris and Johnnie S. Reynolds.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Colbert-Moran Chapel in Gretna by the Rev. Edward McClain. Burial will be in Christ Community Church cemetery.
