Walter Murdock Jr.
The funeral for Walter Raleigh Murdock Jr., 70, of 300 Sycamore St., will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Cerenus Churn. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. The honor guard of American Legion Post 325 will conduct military rites.
He died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 20, 1926, in Danville, he was the son of Walter Murdock Sr. and Mary Coleman Murdock.
He was married
to Ruby Williams Murdock, who survives.
He was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Alcoholic Beverage Control board.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Renee Murdock Tucker of Danville; one sister, Miriam Jones of Columbia, Md.; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Robert Spence
Robert Lee Spence, 64, of 226 North Ave., died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, at 10507 Franklin Turnpike. He had been in declining health for two years.
Born Sept. 22, 1932, in Bedford County, he was the son of William Posey Spence and Cora Mae Hankins Spence.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he had worked in the dye house for Dan River Inc. until his retirement for health reasons.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include one son, David Lee Spence of Dry Fork; one daughter, Deborah S. Scearce of Dry Fork; and three grandchildren.
The graveside service will be conducted noon Tuesday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Albert Moser.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Mae Booth
A graveside service for Mae Smith Booth, 91, will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday in Highland Burial Park by Dr. David Henry.
She died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Nov. 12, 1904, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Henry Thomas Smith and Ada Russell Smith.
She was married
to Dudley Thomas Booth, who died Aug. 27, 1989.
She was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol B. Hastings of Ringgold; a sister, Myrtle Smith of Danville; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of her daughter, 3500 Kentuck Road.
Mary Brumfield
Mary Acors Brumfield, 89, of Arvada, Colo., died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996, in North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, Colo.
Born May 21, 1907, in Spotsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jonathan Acors and Mary Etta Acors. She was a member of Straightstone Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Benjamin Franklin Brumfield Sr. She was preceded in death by two sons, B.F. "Pat" Brumfield Jr. and Henry A. Brumfield; and a grandson.
Survivors include one son, Grayson E. Brumfield of Arvada; two daughters, Ella Mable Tucker and Julia Edmonia Owens, both of Chuckatuck; one brother, Jonathan Earl Acors of Louisa; one half-sister, Margaret Day Fletcher of Spotsylvania; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home Chapel in Gretna by the Rev. W.D. Lilly. Burial will follow in the Brumfield family cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 12:30 until time for the funeral. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday morning.
Ruby Campbell
Ruby Myers Campbell, 84, of 2548 Sandy Creek Road, died at her residence Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996. She had been in declining health for six months.
Born Aug. 15, 1912, in Rockingham, N.C., she was the daughter of John Chilton and Sarah Lee Dickens Chilton.
She had lived most of her life in Hampton. She attended North Danville Church of Christ.
She was married
to Hiram Campbell, who died Oct. 30, 1985.
Survivors include her daughter, Hazel Matherly of the residence; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Happy Home Christian Church cemetery by the Rev. Clyde George.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Douglas Clay
Douglas Thomas Clay, 59, of 4046 Oak Level Road, Halifax, died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 12, 1937, in Halifax County, he was the son of Willie Thomas Clay and Beatrice Barksdale Clay.
He was married
to Phyllis Dobbins Clay.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Douglas Thomas Clay Jr. and Mark A. Clay, both of Halifax; two daughters, Deborah C. Wilmoth of South Boston and Marsha Leigh Clay of Virgilina; two brothers, Marvin Clay of South Boston and Glen Clay of Ormond Beach, Fla.; nine sisters, Christine Jones of Keysville, Lucille Pruitt of Chattanooga, Tenn., Jean Harris of Phenix, Prindle Dalton of Keeling, Verna Conner and Norma Kendrick, both of Danville, Ethel Moore of Altavista, Ramona Elliott of South Boston and Elaine Clay of Pelham, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, South Boston, by the Rev. James Albert. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
Lawrence Creasy
Lawrence Wesley Creasy, 34, of 218 Stanley Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 8, 1962, in Danville, he was the son of Lawrence S. Creasy and Hallie Sperry Creasy.
Most of his life was spent in Danville.
Prior to his illness, he was employed by Worsham Sprinkler Co. in Washington, D.C., and later by Southside Manufacturing Co. in Danville. He was a graduate of George Washington High School and Steele's Welding School.
He was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a son, Lawrence Wesley Creasy II of Providence, N.C.; and four sisters, Laura Pinekenstein of Danville, Paula Yancey of Rustburg, Susan Brooks of Chester and Lou Ellen Wallace of Macon, Ga.
A funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. William C. Taylor. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 218 Stanley Drive.
John Dix Jr.
John D. Dix Jr., 68, of 282 Little Creek Road, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for one month.
Born Sept. 13, 1928, in Yanceyville, N.C., he was the son of John D. Dix Sr. and Mary Smith Dix.
He had lived most of his life in Danville. He was a member of Community Baptist Church and was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
He was married
to Mildred Isom Dix, who died on Feb. 28, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Tony Dix of Danville; two sisters, Nannie Clayton of Pelham, N.C., and Lottie May Robertson of Yanceyville; five brothers, George Dix of Newport News, Willard Dix and Billy Dix, both of Richmond, Robert Dix of Pelham and Bobby Dix of Yanceyville; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. R.G. Williams and the Rev. Mark Smith. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Marguerite Flippen
Marguerite Townes Flippen, 92, died Saturday in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 10, 1904, in Danville, she was the daughter of James Thomas Townes and Mary Tyler Townes.
She attended the Danville public schools and then went to Farmville and earned her degree. She taught school in the Danville schools for five years.
She married
Charles Stamps Flippen on June 28, 1930. He died June 6, 1972.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Ladies' Benevolent Society, the Harry Wooding Garden Club and the Wednesday Club.
Survivors include one son, James Thomas Flippen of Danville; one sister, Kathleen Thomas Lipscomb; and one grandson.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. today at Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. David Gray.
The family will be at the son's residence, 151 Hawthorne Drive.

Gertrude Garner
Gertrude Stickley Garner, 97, of Gretna, died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Jan. 28, 1899, in Strasburg, she was the daughter of Angus Stickley and Emma Newell Stickley.
She was a member of Sheva Church of Christ. She was a retired music teacher.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Wiley Garner.
Survivors include two sons, Marshall S. Garner of Las Vegas, Nev., and Wiley N. Garner of Mintor, Ohio; a sister, Barbara S. Conner of Arlington; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 6 p.m. Monday at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham by the Rev. Larry L. Owen. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Riverview cemetery in Strasburg.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Scott Funeral Home.
Pocahontas Hundley
Pocahontas Hundley, 94, of 126 Marshall Terrace, died Saturday in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 7, 1901, in Axton, she was a daughter of Jessie Thomas Hundley and Nannie Kate Barker Hundley.
She was the last member of her family.
She retired from Thalhimer's in 1972. She was the oldest member of College Park Baptist Church, where she was very active.
A funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in the mausoleum at Danville Memorial Gardens by Dr. Michael Rockwell.
Her friends will receive visitors at Townes Funeral Home from 7 to 8 tonight.
