Rev. C.O. Kelley
CORNELIA, GA. - Rev. C.O. Kelley, 77, 1151 Chase Road, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1996, in Northeast Georgia Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Born in Stephens County, he was a son of Arthur and Montine Ivester Kelley.
He was married
to Leola Dean Kelley, who survives.
He was an ordained Baptist minister.
He attended Toccoa Falls College and served in the Coast Guard as a chief gunner's mate. During World War II, he served in the Atlantic and Pacific.
He began his career as a Memorial Park counselor in 1959 and owned and operated Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest from 1971 until the present.
In addition to his wife of Cornelia, he is survived by three daughters, Pam Kelley and Daphne Kelley, both of Cornelia, and Lynn Hannan of Cumming; a son, Greg Kelley of Cornelia; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Kelley, and a sister, Anese Boyles.
The funeral was conducted 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 1996, from Habersham Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Demorest by the Rev. Billy Burrell, the Rev. Glover Morgan, and Bruce Hutchcraft. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Walter Murdock Jr.
The funeral for Walter Raleigh Murdock Jr., 70, of 300 Sycamore St., will be conducted 3 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Cerenus Churn. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens, where the honor guard of American Legion Post 325 will conduct military rites.
He died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 20, 1926, in Danville, he was the son of Walter Murdock Sr. and Mary Coleman Murdock.
He was married
to Ruby Williams Murdock, who survives.
He was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Alcoholic Beverage Control board.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Renee Murdock Tucker of Danville; one sister, Miriam Jones of Columbia, Md.; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Robert Spence
The graveside service for Robert Lee Spence, 64, 226 North Ave., will be conducted noon today in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Albert Moser.
He died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, at 10507 Franklin Turnpike. He had been in declining health for two years.
Born Sept. 22, 1932, in Bedford County, he was the son of William Posey Spence and Cora Mae Hankins Spence.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he had worked in the dye house for Dan River Inc. until his retirement for health reasons.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include one son, David Lee Spence of Dry Fork; one daughter, Deborah S. Scearce of Dry Fork; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Archie Yeatts
Archie Lee Yeatts, 52, 870 Pine St., Apt No. 3, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, in his residence, following ten years of declining health.
Born Jan. 14, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Eugene Eldridge Yeatts and Edna Scruggs Yeatts, who survive.
He was a graduate of Chatham High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, where he received the National Defense Medal. He also served as a military policeman from 1965 to 1967.
He had been living in Danville for the past 20 years. He was employed by Kroger Grocery Store for 18 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents of Danville, survivors include four sisters, Barbara Rowles of Chatham, Myrtle Moss of Gretna, Wanda Pillow of Chatham, and Sherry Goodman of Danville; and a brother, Rickey Yeatts of Chatham.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas E. Yeatts and Roger D. Yeatts.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. William "Bill" Soyars. Full military honors will be given by the American Legion Post 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of his parents, 1100 Main Street.
Algie Anderson
Algie Willis Anderson, 66, of 39 Holcomb Ave., died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3, 1996, at the home of his sister, Elizabeth Heffinger.
Born Sept. 25, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Charlie Howard Anderson and Lena Lewis Anderson.
He spent most of his life in California and Virginia.
In 1994, he retired due to a decline in health.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three brothers, Otis K. Anderson of Radford, Harry L. Anderson of Danville, and E. Gilbert Anderson of Providence, N.C.; five sisters, Mildred Boles, Pattie Haskins, Elizabeth Heffinger and Jeanette Brown all of Danville, and Clara Moser of Java.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Howard Anderson, Roy S. Anderson and Raymond L. Anderson; and one sister, Annie Mae Redd.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Charles B. Scearce. Interment will be in the Mill Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times will be at the residence of his sister, 39 Holcomb Ave.
Lawrence Creasy
The funeral for Lawrence Wesley Creasy, 34, of 218 Stanley Drive, will be conducted 11 a.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. William C. Taylor. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
He died Saturday morning, Nov. 2, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 8, 1962, in Danville, he was the son of Lawrence S. Creasy and Hallie Sperry Creasy, who both survive.
He spent most of his life in Danville.
Prior to his illness, he was employed by Worsham Sprinkler Co. in Washington, D.C., and later by the Southside Manufacturing Co. in Danville. He was a graduate of George Washington High School and Steele's Welding School.
He was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents of the residence, survivors include a son, Lawrence Wesley Creasy II of Providence, N.C.; and four sisters, Laura Pinekenstein of Danville; Paula Yancey of Rustburg, Susan Brooks of Chester and Lou Ellen Wallace of Macon, Ga.
John Dix Jr.
The funeral for John D. Dix Jr., 68, of 282 Little Creek Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. R.G. Wiliams and the Rev. Mark Smith. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
He died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, after a one-month decline in health.
Born Sept. 13, 1928, in Yanceyville, N.C., he was the son of John D. Dix Sr. and Mary Smith Dix.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was a member of Community Baptist Church.
He was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
He was married
to Mildred Isom Dix, who died Feb. 28, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Tony Dix of Danville; two sisters, Nannie Clayton of Pelham, N.C., and Lottie May Robertson of Yanceyville; five brothers, George Dix of Newport News, Willard Dix and Billy Dix, both of Richmond, Robert Dix of Pelham and Bobby Dix of Yanceyville; and five grandchildren.
Marguerite Flippen
The graveside service for Marguerite Townes Flippen, 92, was conducted 4 p.m. Sunday
at Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. David Gray.
She died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 10, 1904, in Danville, she was the daughter of James Thomas Townes and Mary Tyler Townes.
She attended Danville public schools and earned her bachelor's degree at Farmville. She taught school in the Danville city schools for five years.
On June 28, 1930, she was married
to Charles Stamps Flippen, who died June 6, 1972.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Ladies' Benevolent Society, the Harry Wooding Garden Club and the Wednesday Club.
Survivors include one son, James Thomas Flippen of Danville; one sister, Kathleen Townes
Lipscomb; and one grandson.

Gertrude Garner
GRETNA - The funeral for Gertrude Stickley Garner, 97, of Gretna, will be conducted 6 p.m. today at Scott Funeral Home by the Rev. Larry L. Owen. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Riverview cemetery in Strasburg.
She died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Jan. 28, 1899, in Strasburg, she was the daughter of Angus Stickley and Emma Newell Stickley.
She was a member of Sheva Church of Christ, and was a retired music teacher.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Wiley Garner.
Survivors include two sons, Marshall S. Garner of Las Vegas, and Wiley N. Garner of Mintor, Ohio; one sister, Barbara S. Conner of Arlington; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Scott Funeral Home, Chatham.
Pocahontas Hundley
The funeral for Pocahontas Hundley, 94, of 126 Marshall Terrace, will be conducted 11 a.m. today in the mausoleum at Danville Memorial Gardens by Dr. Michael Rockwell.
She died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 7, 1901, in Axton, she was a daughter of Jessie Thomas Hundley and Nannie Kate Barker Hundley.
She was the last surviving member of her family.
She was the oldest member of College Park Baptist Church, where she was very active.
She retired from Thalhimer's department store in 1972.
