Louise Vaughan
Louise Ashton Vaughan, formerly of 254 West Main St., died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born March 13, 1901, in Danville, she was a daughter of Robert Ashton Vaughan and Mary DuBose Vaughan.
She was educated in the Danville Public Schools. She attended American University in Washington, D.C., and was a graduate of the Defense Department School of Personnel Training.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as an administrator assistant.
She was a member of Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. She was also a member of Ladies Benevolent Society, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Dorothea Henry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History.
She is survived by two sisters, Frances Vaughan Hubbard of Danville and Virginia Vaughan Spruill of Mathews, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. James Mathieson. Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her niece, Mary Ann Shelton, 649 Timberlake Drive.
John White
SUTHERLIN - The funeral for John Robert White, 44, 769 Kerns Church Road, will be conducted 11 a.m. today from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Howard C. Green. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
He died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following four months of declining health.
Born Dec. 30, 1951, in Danville, he was a son of Jesse W. White, who survives, and Alease Belcher White.
He spent his entire life in the Sutherlin community. He was a member of Kerns United Methodist Church. He was employed as a farmer and a truck driver.
In addition to his father of Sutherlin, survivors include his fiance, Carol Scearce of Danville; three sisters, Betty W. Guerrant of Keeling, Kitty W. Stevens of Sutherlin, and Linda W. Barley of Danville; and two brothers, George R. White of Fredericksburg and Jesse Carroll White of Sutherlin.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
John Wright
John Rellie Wright, 95, 46 Vandola Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996, in his residence, following 10 years of declining health.
Born Jan. 18, 1901, in Carroll County, he was a son of George Wright and Martha Surphen Wright.
He was married
to Sallie Effie Sloan Wright, who died in 1974.
He had lived in the Westover Hills community for the past 60 years. Prior to retiring at age 62, he was a self-employed painter.
He was a member of Westover Hills United Methodist Church and the Poquoson Tribe No. 124 Improved Order of Red Men.
He is survived by two sons, Dempsey L. Wright of the residence and Melvin D. Wright of Brosville; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robert Carty. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Gloria Claiborne
Gloria M. Claiborne, 61, 543 Monroe St., died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 18, 1935, in Danville, she was a daughter of Robert Motley and Eddie E. Motley, who survives.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Pittsylvania County School System. She was also a member of Holbrook Street Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her mother of Danville, she is survived by a son, High Timothy Dodson Sr. of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Barbara Sergeon of Danville; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday from Holbrook Street Presbyterian Church by Dr. George Wilson. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The body may be viewed 4-8 tonight at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence.
Katie Koger
GLEN ALLEN - Katie M. Koger, 82, 10004 Christiano Drive, and formerly of the Danville House in Danville, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, in Health South Medical Center in Richmond.
Born Feb. 4, 1914, in Danville, she was a daughter of Charles McBride and Rebecca Brown McBride.
She was married
to George Koger, who died Nov. 25, 1976.
She was a member of College Park Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne K. Eastman of Glen Allen; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday in Highland Burial Park in Danville by the Rev. Dr. William L. Trimyer.

Annette Peters
DOUGLASVILLE, GA. - Annette Carter Peters, 70, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996.
Born in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a daughter of Robert Clarence and Julia Ann Haley Carter.
She lived in Toms River, N.J., prior to moving to Douglasville 15 years ago. She was a member of the Baptist faith and attended Sunday school at Central Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Lorraine C. Brown of Danville, Va., and Myrtle C. Adams of Mableton.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Rosehaven Chapel in Douglasville by Dr. Paul Mason. Burial will be in Rosehaven cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
James Wagoner
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - James David Wagoner, 36, formerly of Greensboro, N.C., died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, in his residence.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Cox Wagoner; and a sister, Kimberly Wagoner of the residence.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro, N.C.

Stella Adkins
CHATHAM - Stella Holley Adkins, 78, 262 B. North Main St., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, in her residence.
Born July 9, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Thomas C. Holley and Cora Gammon H. Edwards.
She was a member of Chatham Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. as an inspector supervisor.
Survivors include a son, Aubrey T. Adkins of Chatham; a daughter, Elsie A. Robertson of Graham, N.C.; a brother, Earl K. Holley of Danville; a sister, Helen H. Anderson of Richmond; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday from Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Chatham by the Rev. Michael Macon and the Rev. R. Fletcher Hardy III. Burial will be in the Holley Family cemetery in Callands.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, 19 Woodlawn Heights, Chatham.
Ellen Barnes
RICHMOND - Ellen Guerrant Barnes, of Westminster-Canterbury House, died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996.
Born Aug. 13, 1905, in Christiansburg, she was a daughter of Ellen Berkeley Armistead and John Gibson Guerrant.
In 1930, she was married
to Dan D. Dickenson, who died in 1967. Then, she was married
to Thomas Savage Armistead, who died in 1982. She was later married
to Wade B. Barnes, who died in 1986.
She completed high school in Lexington and attended Randolph-Macon Women's College, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
She moved to Danville and was employed as supervisor of Public School Music.
In Danville, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was also former president of the Ladies Benevolent Society, the Women of the Church, and the Lady Astor Garden Club. She was also a member of the Danville Golf Club and the Wednesday Club. She was also a former member of the Board of Directors in Sunnyside Presbyterian Home in Harrisonburg.
After moving to Richmond in 1975, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Woman's Club, the Country Club of Virginia, and the Goochland County Historical Society.
She had lived at the Westminster-Canterbury House in Richmond for four years, where she had served as a floor representative.
She is survived by two sons, Rev. Daniel D. Dickenson Jr. of Norfolk and John Guerrant Dickenson of Danville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted today at Westminster-Canterbury House in Richmond. A memorial service will also be held noon Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, in Green Hill cemetery in Danville.
Bettye Dudley
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Bettye Wright Williams Dudley, 67, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996.
Born in Danville, Va., she was a daughter of Henry and Susie Williams.
She received a bachelors' degree in chemistry from Randolph Macon Women's College and a master's degree in chemistry from Mount Holyoke College.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the University of South Carolina as a research specialist in the Baruch Institute for 26 years.
She was the first recipient of the Administrative Employee's Club "Employee of the Year" award. She was also active in civic and alumni organizations.
She was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Dudley Long of Atlanta; two sons, Bill Dudley Jr. of Atlanta and David Dudley of Columbia; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. today at Washington Street United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Charles Gravett
Charles E. Gravett, 64, 1111 N. Main St., and formerly of 2147 N. Main St., died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 9, 1931, in Danville, he was a son of William E. Gravett and Arlene Hogan Gravett.
He spent most of his life in the Glenwood community. He was employed by Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. and Hogan Distributing Co. He also attended the Church of God of Prophecy.
He is survived by a sister, Shirley Patterson of Ruffin, N.C.; and two brothers, William A. Gravett of Greensboro, N.C., and Bobby R. Gravett of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks and the Rev. Jack Robertson.
