Robert Pinchback Jr.

AMARILLO, TEXAS - Robert Lindsay Pinchback Jr., 62, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Born Dec. 14, 1933, in Danville, Va., he was a son of Robert L. Pinchback Sr. and Theresa Walker Pinchback.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include one sister, Winifred Ferrell of Danville, Va.; and one brother, James W. Pinchback also of Danville, Va.

The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Dale Price

Dale Robertson Price, formerly of 110 Westmore Drive, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 10, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born July 9, 1909, in Russell County, he was a son of David Walter Price and Minnie Frances Ferguson Price.

He spent most of his life in Danville and was a former manager of Glen-More Clothing Store. Later he was a field representative for International Shoe Co. of St. Louis for 25 years.

He was a member of West Main Baptist Church.

On Nov. 24, 1928, he was married to Mary Lou Leonard Price, who survives.

In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include a daughter, Alma Greenberg of Danville; a son, Raymond Dale Price of Fairfield, Pa.; a brother, Reynolds Price of Kingsport, Tenn.; three sisters, Irene Devine of Aberdine, Md., Molly Dingus of Kingsport, Tenn., and Margaret Price of Abingdon; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Bruce Wilson.

The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Townes Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his daughter, 173 Linden Drive.

Melvin Scearce

The funeral for Melvin Franklin Scearce, 73, of 12488 Martinsville Hwy., will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by Dr. LeRoy Clack and the Rev. James Albert. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park with military honors by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.

He died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after a decline in health over a number of years.

Born Feb. 22, 1923, in the Brosville community, he was a son of Bruce Scearce and Nannie Dishman Scearce.

He lived in Danville for many years and moved to the Brosville community 40 years ago.

He was a self-employed carpenter for many years and later was in the antiques business in Brosville. He was previously married to Pearl Jones Scearce, until 1963.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was of the Baptist faith.

He was married to Jean Gammon Scearce, who survives.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Margaret Gardner of Cascade, Donna Giles of West Fork, and Brenda Trammell of Ringgold; one son, James Franklin Scearce of Danville; two sisters, Willie Mae Kendrick and Cynthia Scearce, both of Danville; two brothers, Claude Scearce of Axton, and James Scearce of Westover Hills; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one son, Sanford R. Scearce.

The family will be at the residence.

Devonte Scott

Devonte Jamar Scott, 4, of Danville, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born July 29, 1992, he was a son of Johnsie Scott and Anthony Maurice Coles.

Survivors include his parents, both of Danville; and his paternal grandmother, Hilda Coles of Danville.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Smith Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmie Richmond. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Carlisle Jr.

Robert D. "Bobby" Carlisle Jr., 44, of 501 Inca Lane, Ringgold, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at the VA Medical Center in Richmond after a decline in health of three years.

Born May 6, 1952, in Petersburg, he was the son of Robert D. Carlisle Sr., and Annie Ruth Claiborne Britt.

He spent most of his life in Grandy, N.C..

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.

Survivors include his mother of Grandy, N.C.; his stepfather, G.A. Britt of Grandy, N.C.; three daughters, Hope Carlisle, Stephanie Carlisle, and Robin Carlisle, all of North Carolina; two sons, Curtis Carlisle and Tommy Carlisle, both of North Carolina.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts, North Main Chapel, by the Rev. J. Wayne Crews. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Samuel Dodson

Samuel N. Dodson, 86, formerly of 145 Arnett Blvd., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at Riverside Health Care Center where he had lived for almost three years.

Born Nov. 21, 1909, in the Sutherlin community of Halifax County, he was the son of Henry Clay Dodson and Fannie Adams Dodson.

He was married to Alma Ward Dodson who died April 2, 1983.

He had spent his early life in the Sutherlin community and had also lived in Maryland and Danville.

He retired from Disston Inc., but had also worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.

He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Mildred D. Womack of Danville.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Lee D. Ellison. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home of his sister, Mildred Womack, 204 Cambridge Drive.

Ruby Gwynn

Ruby Jean Gwynn, 49, 65 Fairfield Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 8, 1947, in Danville, she was a daughter of Linwood Bethel Sr. and Eddie Mae Strader Bethel.

She was married to Richard Gwynn, who predeceased her.

She was employed by Dimon Inc. for many years.

Survivors include four daughters, Regina Gwynn and Melissa Gwynn, both of Danville, Rhonda Gwynn of Farmville, and Shaunda Gwynn of Greensboro, N.C.; four sisters, Earlene Bethel and Brenda Bethel, both of Danville, Lucy Bethel of Temple Hills, Md., and Constance Thompson of Washington, D.C.; and two brothers, Linwood Bethel Jr. of Danville and Larry Bethel of Landover, Md.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Mt. Zion Holiness Church by Elder James Woodson Jr. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence of a sister, Earlene Bethel, 1103 W. Paxton St., Danville.

Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Maude Mason

Mrs. Maude Jarrett Mason, 98, of the Roman Eagle Memorial Home, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at the home where she had resided for 71/2 years.

Born Nov. 6, 1898, in Henry County, she was a daughter of George Washington Jarrett and Henrietta Morris Jarrett.

She was married to Willie Lipscomb Mason who died in July 1984.

She was also predeceased by one son, Jessie Robert Mason.

She had lived in the Danville area for the past 50 years.

She was a homemaker. She was also a member of Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Geneva M. Carden of Chatham, and Rachel M. Self of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; two sons, Raymond L. Mason of Bassett, and Ralph Willie Mason of Danville; one sister, Nora Michaels of Richmond; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Louis A. Martin and the Rev. Fletcher Hardy. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 2-3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, and, at other times will be at the residence of a daughter, Geneva Carden, 11965 U.S. 29-Chatham.

Clyde Poteat

Clyde Wilson Poteat, 83, of 7484 N.C. Hwy. 119, Leasburg, N.C., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Born Oct. 7, 1913, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Willie Alvin Poteat and Annie Simpson Poteat.

He was married to Doris Meeler Poteat.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Jerry Poteat of Prospect Hill, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He retired from Caswell Knitting Mills.

He was also a member of Yanceyville Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in the Lebanon Christian Church cemetery by the Dr. Stanley Hare and the Rev. Art McGodan.

The family will be at the residence of the son, Jerry Poteat, 5727 Ridgeville Road, Prospect Hill, N.C.

Marley Funeral Home in Yanceyville, N.C. is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Scearce

Melvin Franklin Scearce, 73, of 12488 Martinsville Hwy., died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after a decline in health over a number of years.
