James Younger
VERNON HILL - James Lee Younger, 52, 1150 Bluerock Road, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 12, 1944, in Halifax County, he was a son of James B. and Ellen Lee Younger, who survive.
He was married
to Annie Lois Younger, who survives.
He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents and wife, survivors include a son, Dwayne L. Younger of the residence; a step-son, Tracy Marable of Halifax; a foster son, Robert Hughes of Halifax; a foster daughter, Diane Hughes of South Boston; two brothers, Thomas Younger of Jessup, Md., and Kenneth Younger of Beltsville, Md.; three sisters, Ellen Watson of Oxen Hill, Md., Thelma Walford of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Yolander Davis of Richmond; four grandchildren; and five foster grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from New Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. S.L. Leigh. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Jacqueline Bryant
Jacqueline Young Bryant, 73, of Blue Ridge Rehab Center, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 1996, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry County.
Born Aug. 16, 1923, in Danville, she was the daughter of Minnie Y. Dix. Her step-father was John Cook Dix.
She spent her entire life in Danville, and worked 30 years for Dan River Inc. She was a former member of Southall Baptist Church.
She was a member of Dan River Retirees Club.
She was married
to Howard Winston Bryant Sr., who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Carole Marsh and Joyce Bryant both of Greensboro, N.C.; three sons, Kenneth Bryant of Chatham and Julian Bryant of Semora, N.C., and Howard Bryant Jr. of Danville; and four grandchildren.
The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Schoolfield cemetery by the Rev. Larry Hill.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 Tuesday night at Barker Funeral Home.
Lena Burnette
Lena Taylor Burnette, 85, of 1328 Aspen St., died Sunday, Nov. 10, 1996, in Stratford Health Center, where she had been a patient for two weeks.
Born Aug. 27, 1909, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of John Henry Taylor and Alice Arendall Taylor.
She spent her entire life in the Danville area, where she worked in the home.
She was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church.
On Dec. 24, 1932, she was married
to Otha West Burnette, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one son, Bruce Burnette of Halifax; one daughter, Linda B. Lee of Galax; one sister, Edna T. Hardy of Hampton; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Design United Methodist Church by the Rev. William C. Taylor. Interment will be in Leemont cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7:30 to 8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times will be at the residence.
Bobby Carlisle Jr.
The graveside service for Robert D. "Bobby" Carlisle Jr., 44, of 501 Inca Lane, Ringgold, will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. J. Wayne Crews.
He died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond after a three-year decline in health.
Born May 6, 1952, in Petersburg, he was the son of Robert D. Carlisle Sr. and Annie Ruth Claiborne Britt.
He spent most of his life in Grandy, N.C., and was of the Baptist faith.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his mother of Grandy, N.C.; his stepfather, G.A. Britt of Grandy, N.C.; three daughters, Hope Carlisle, Stephanie Carlisle, and Robin Carlisle, all of North Carolina; two sons, Curtis Carlisle and Tommy Carlisle, both of North Carolina; and three sisters, Bonnie Manasco of Ringgold, Lynn C. Copeland of Freemont, Calif., and Gale Britt of Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Cordie Dalton
Cordie Booth Dalton, 92, formerly of 231 Orchard Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at Piney Forest Health Care Center. She had been in declining health for several years.
Born June 1, 1904, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John R. Booth and Fannie Lou Hall Booth.
She spent her entire life in Danville, where she was a homemaker. For 37 years she raised Boston terriers.
She was of the Christian faith, and was married
to Glady Dalton who predeceased her.
Survivors include two sisters, Sally Carter and Blanche Whitfield, both of Danville; two brothers, Robert Booth of Danville and Hugh Booth of Staunton; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Dewey M. Rutledge Sr.
The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Dewey Rutledge Jr., 988 Poplar Trace.

Samuel Dodson
The funeral for Samuel N. Dodson, 86, formerly of 145 Arnett Blvd., will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Lee D. Ellison. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
He died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at Riverside Health Care Center where he had lived for almost three years.
Born Nov. 21, 1909, in the Sutherlin community of Halifax County, he was the son of Henry Clay Dodson and Fannie Adams Dodson.
He was married
to Alma Ward Dodson who died April 2, 1983.
He had spent his early life in the Sutherlin community and had also lived in Maryland and Danville.
He retired from Disston Inc., but had also worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.
He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Mildred D. Womack of Danville.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of his sister, Mildred Womack, 204 Cambridge Drive.
Daisy Ferguson
Daisy Dye Alverson Ferguson, 93, of 1025 N. Main St., died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 10, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 25, 1903, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of J.D. and Mary Davis Dye.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Elma A. Alverson, and her second husband, J.D. Ferguson.
For 35 years she owned and operated Ferguson Boarding Home for the elderly. She had also been employed by Dan River Inc., the Danville Knitting Mill, and Life Insurance Co. of Virginia.
She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as an officer in the Double M Circle, past president of Senior Citizens Club, and past president of the Sewing Room Club. She also was an officer in the local AARP, and was a member of Wynette Council No. 22.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen A. Parrish of Texas City, Texas, and Doris A. Barrow of Danville; two brothers, H.J. Dye of Eden, N.C., and H.S. Dye of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, C. Dennis Alverson, and 11 brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Memorial chapel by the Rev. Lee Ellison. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Townes Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
Robert Hayden
Robert Irvin Hayden, 84, of 10160 Franklin Turnpike, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at his home.
Born Oct. 13, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Thomas Walton Hayden and Emily Smith Hayden.
He owned and operated Hayden Garage for 30 years.
He was a member of Whitmell Methodist Church and was married
to Dorothy Holly Hayden, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include three sisters, Eleanor Hayden Whitmore of Bradenton, Fla., Elizabeth H. Hancock of Danville, and Alva H. Clary of Virginia Beach; one brother, Charles Alvis Hayden of Dry Fork, and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Barker Funeral Home by the Rev. Cecil Coates and the Rev. Harvey Johnson. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home.
Maude Mason
The funeral for Maude Jarrett Mason, 98, of the Roman Eagle Memorial Home, will be conducted 11 a.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Louis A. Martin and the Rev. Fletcher Hardy. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
She died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at the home where she had resided for 71/2 years.
Born Nov. 6, 1898, in Henry County, she was a daughter of George Washington Jarrett and Henrietta Morris Jarrett.
She was married
to Willie Lipscomb Mason who died in July 1984.
She was also predeceased by one son, Jessie Robert Mason.
She had lived in the Danville area for the past 50 years.
She was a homemaker. She was also a member of Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Geneva M. Carden of Chatham, and Rachel M. Self of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; two sons, Raymond L. Mason of Bassett, and Ralph Willie Mason of Danville; one sister, Nora Michaels of Richmond; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the residence of a daughter, Geneva Carden, 11965 U.S. 29-Chatham.
Ruth McCall
Ruth Harris McCall, 69, of 873 Arnett Blvd., died Sunday, Nov. 10, 1996, at her daughter's home, 381 Homestead Road, Ringgold. She had been in declining health for one year.
Born April 26, 1927, in Danville, she was a daughter of Ira Harris and Mamie Harris.
She spent her entire life in the Danville area, where she worked 30 years at Dan River Inc.
She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Her husband, Hubert Frederick "Bill" McCall died in 1976.
Survivors include three daughters, Faye M. Phillips of Ringgold; Billie M. Fuquitt of Houston and Sarah M. Scearce of Pelham, N.C.; two sisters, Captola Davis of Hawkers Island, N.C. and Pearl Fern of Rancho Cucamongo, Calif.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one sister, Ida Pickeral, and one brother, Chyle "Bud" Harris.
The graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Don Davidson.
The family will receive friends at her daughter's home, 381 Homestead Road, Ringgold.
