Lillian McMahon
ADELPHIA, N.J. - The funeral for Lillian Farson McMahon, 72, of Route 524, will be conducted 11 a.m Friday from Arbor Baptist Church in Sutherlin, Va., by the Rev. Averette Witcher. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996, in Centra Medical Center of Freehold, following a week of declining health.
Born Dec. 18, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a daughter of Hartwell Ingram and Lillian Farson Ingram.
On March 1, 1951, she was married
to Tracy F. McMahon Sr., who died Feb. 13, 1994.
She spent most of her life in Pittsylvania County and New Jersey, where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Tracy F. McMahon Jr. of Aguabon, Tenn.; a daughter, Mary L. Payeur of Adelphia; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of her niece, Dema W. Martin, 13405 Old Richmond Road, Old Hwy. 360, Gurrants Trailer Court Lot 3.
Frank Pierce
CHATHAM - Frank Edgar Pierce, 77, 169 Pierce Lane, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996, in his residence.
Born May 1, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James Samuel Pierce and Alice Nickles Pierce.
He was married
to Mary Elizabeth Pruitt Pierce, who survives.
He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Ralph E. Pierce and Samuel A. Pierce, both of Chatham; eight daughters, Janet P. Adkins, Joann P. Dalton and Anna P. Sours, all of Gretna, Mildred P. Betterton, Sarah P. Adkins, Jewell P. Adkins, Sue P. Moser and Linda P. Davis, all of Chatham; a sister, Doris P. Moser of Chatham; a step-sister, Lizzie Pierce of Chatham; 20 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Burial Park by the Rev. Albert Moser and the Rev. J. Haywood Alcorn.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Pauline Wallace
Pauline Wilson Wallace, 71, 660 Shelton St., died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996, in her residence, following 20 years of declining health.
Born Feb. 18, 1925, in Caswell County, N.C., she was a daughter of John William Wilson and Betty Lou Norton Wilson.
She was married
to Coy Newton Wallace, who predeceased her.
She had lived in Carthage, N.C., for the past 40 years, where she was owner and operator of a craft shop.
Survivors include three sons, Chris Ferguson of Durham, N.C., James William Reynolds of Robbins, N.C., and Jerry Lea Reynolds of Danville; a daughter, Dale Dunn of Carthage, N.C.; a brother, Harry Wilson of Danville; four sisters, Irene Plummer and Dot Bailey, both of Denton, N.C., Thelma Bray and Janie Barker, both of Blanch, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in the Wilson Family cemetery in Blanch, N.C., by the Rev. Daryl Joyce.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Rosa Cross
AXTON - Rosa Bray Cross, 97, 2240 Peach Orchard Road, died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996, in her residence, following three years of declining health.
Born July 18, 1899, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John Bray and Callie Eanes Bray.
She was married
to Eugene E. Cross, who died Aug. 6, 1960.
She spent her entire life in Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker and a member of Cascade Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruby Cross Carter of Axton and Elizabeth Cross Belton of Reidsville, N.C.; two sons, Jack Cross and Billy Cross, both of Axton; one stepdaughter, Mary Lunsford of Yanceyville, N.C.; three sisters, Maggie Bray Finney of Reidsville, Bessie Bray Carter of Axton and Susie Bray Hundley of Cascade; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Evelyn Louise Cross, who died in 1942.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Phillip A. Duckett and the Rev. Thomas Allgood. Burial will be in the Cross family cemetery at Axton.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of a son, Billy Cross, Peach Orchard Road, State Road 851, Axton.
Paul 'Pete' Gammon
The funeral for Paul "Pete" Gammon, 76, 4389 Horseshoe Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bill Soyars. Burial will be in the Perkins family cemetery off Horseshoe Road in Brosville.
He died early Sunday morning, Dec. 1, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for 10 years.
Born May 12, 1920, in Pittyslvania County, he was a son of Claude Beverly Gammon and Jennie Scearce Gammon.
He was married
to Sarah Glenn Perkins Gammon, who survives.
He spent his entire life in the Brosville Community of Pittsylvania County, where he was a farmer. He also worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for 23 years.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Paul T. Gammon of Brosville; one daughter, D'Atte Clifton of Brosville; one brother, Jasper H. Gammon of Bachelors Hall; two sisters, Jean G. Scearce and Marie Gammon both of Brosville; and one grandson.
The family will receive friends at the home of his son, 261 Still Springs Drive, Route 878, Brosville.
Virginia Griffin
Virginia E. Griffin, 72, 188 Mimosa St., died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born April 11, 1924, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of Charlie Robert Eaton and Blanche Moxley Eaton.
She was first married
to Noble F. Fowler. She was later married
to Paul Griffin, who died in 1993.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to her former husband of Danville, survivors include three sons, Jerry Fowler and Robert Fowler, both of Norfolk, and Noble Fowler Jr. of Portsmouth; one sister, Carolyn Eaton Miller of Reidsville, N.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her second husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Faye Fowler.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. J. Richard Markham.

Benton Gusley
Benton T. Gusley, 87, died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996, in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born March 20, 1909, in Eden, N.C., he was a son of Major Lee Gusley and Anna Hutcherson Gusley.
He was of the Baptist faith and a retired farmer who spent most of his life on the Martinsville Road.
He is survived by a son, Billy Lee Gusley of Petersburg; a brother, Eston Gusley of Chatham; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Bennett Shelton.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Barker Funeral Home.
Willie Lanier Sr.
Willie T. Lanier Sr., 76, 106 Lovelace Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 1, 1920, in Pittsylvania County.
He was married
to Leomia Lanier, who survives.
He was employed by Dan River Mills. He was also a member of Loyal Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Barbara L. Moss of the residence; three sons, Willie T. Lanier Jr. of Warsaw, Jerry L. Lanier of Winston-Salem, N.C., and John T. Lanier of Richmond; a sister, Elizabeth Garland of Danville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted noon Wednesday from Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Lovelle A. Maxwell Jr. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The body may be viewed 4-8 tonight at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Virginia Martin
Virginia Herndon Wells Martin, 83, 218 Angie Road, died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996.
Born Feb. 5, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of George William Herndon and Ethel Oakes Herndon.
She was a member of the Christian Tabernacle.
She was first married
to Curtis W. Wells, who predeceased her. She was then married
to Loyd Gerald Martin, who is also deceased.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Edward Wells of Danville; a sister, Lessie H. Farthing of Danville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hillcrest Burial Park by the Rev. Kenneth Amos.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham, and other times at the residence.
Mary Power
Mary Wilson Power, 84, 817 Shepherd Ave., died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following seven years of declining health.
Born July 4, 1912, in Danville, she was a daughter of John Adkins and Virginia Adkins.
She was first married
to Samuel Wilson, who died in 1953. She was later married
to Frank Power, who died in 1977.
She spent her entire life in Danville, where she was employed by Dan River Mills until her retirement. She was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Wilson James of Danville; four sons, Paul Calvin Wilson, Edward Samuel Wilson, Melvin C. Wilson, and Jerry W. Wilson, all of Danville; a brother, Rev. Moses Adkins of Danville; two sisters, Essie Duncan and Irene Tuck, both of Danville; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first and second husbands, she was predeceased by a son, Winiford Mason Wilson.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Della Stadler
Della Chilton Stadler, 97, of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, 2526 North Main St., and formerly of 690 Red Marshall Road, Pelham, N.C., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for several years.
Born June 13, 1899, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of William R. Chilton and Lucy Page Chilton.
She was married
to Robert H. Stadler Sr., who died March 12, 1975.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Caswell County School System as a dietician. She spent her entire life in the Pelham community of Caswell County.
She was the oldest member of Pelham United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Edna Paschal and Hazel Taylor, both of Reidsville, N.C., Mildred Fitzgerald and Ann Bradshaw, both of Danville; a son, Robert H. Stadler Jr. of Danville; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three daughters, Louise Stadler, Mary Jane Stadler and Robbie S. Taylor.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Pelham United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Harrill. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
