Aretta Fairfax
Aretta H. Cave Fairfax, 88, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Dec. 6, 1996, in City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born March 3, 1908, in Blueridge, Ga., she was a daughter of the Rebecca McDougal.
She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Nadenbousch of Martinsburg, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her first husband, James Cave; her second husband, Clyde Fairfax; three sons, Fred Cave, James Cave and Willard S. Cave; two daughters,
Dorothy Emery and Edith Shriver; one brother and three sisters.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Rosedale Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Donald L. Preston officiating. Burial will be in the Rosedale cemetery in Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Monday 7 - 9 p.m. at the Rosedale Funeral Home.

Frederick Mahlon Stone
Frederick Mahlon Stone, 99, of Gretna, died Friday, Dec. 6, 1996.
Born Dec. 3, 1897, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Samuel Rollins Stone Sr. and Ella Smith Stone.
Stone was a member of the First Baptist Church of Riceville and was a retired farmer.
He was predeceased by his wife, Hallie Reynolds Stone.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia S. Snavely of Waynesboro, Frederica S. Paul of Albuquerque, N.M., and Hallie Marie Oakes of Gretna; one brother, the Rev. Samuel R. Stone Jr. of Altavista; one sister, Laura S. Fitzgerald of Altavista; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Riceville by the Rev. Shelton Miles and the Rev. Michael Pope. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening 7-8:30 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law Hallie Marie and Robert Oakes at 2937 White Fall Road in Gretna.

Mary Dix
Mary Talbott Dix, 77, of Petersburg, died Friday, Dec. 6, 1996.
A native of Halifax County, she was a daughter of Robert Jefferson Talbott and Nette Frances Pruitt Talbott, who predeceased her.
She was also predeceased by her husband, Sgt. Linwood R. Dix Sr.
She was a retired district manager for Field Enterprises Educational Corporation.
She was an active member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church in Petersburg and a volunteer with the Red Cross, most recently at Kenner Army Hospital, Fort Lee, Va.
She was a member of the Federated Womens Club of Petersburg.
She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Smith of Waterview, Va.; her son, Linwood R. "Buddy" Dix Jr. of Hopewell; one sister, Minnie T. Morriss of Martinsville, and five grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the Walnut Hill Baptist Church in Petersburg by Rev. J. Stephen Jones. Interment will be at Highland Burial Park in Danville on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
The family will receive friends on Sunday 2-3:30 p.m. at the J.T. Morriss & son Funeral Home in Petersburg and on Tuesday 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home in Danville.
Yvonne Tickle
A memorial service for Yvonne Smith Tickle, 58, 1321 Piney Forest Road, Apt. F-41, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Barker Funeral Home by the Rev. Joe Beck.
She died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996, at her residence. Tickle had been in declining health for the past three years.
Born Sept. 22, 1938, in Danville, she was a daughter of George W. Smith and Angie Mitchell Smith.
She had lived all of her life in Danville and worked at Healthtex Inc. for 15 years.
Of the the Christian faith, she was married
to Howard S. Tickle, who died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Angie Tickle of the residence; a son, Gerald Tickle of the residence; four sisters, Beatrice S. Williams, Edith S. Wells and Elizabeth S. Marshall, all of Danville, and Della S. Arthur of Tallahassee, Fla.; three brothers, Alfred Smith of Daytona Beach, Fla., Harold B. Smith of Danville and George W. Smith Jr. of Garner, N.C.; a foster brother, Chester Scearce of Danville; and one grandchild.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph N. Smith and Ray Smith; and one sister, Lorraine S. Norman.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Gordon Davidson Jr.
Gordon Woody Davidson Jr., 70, 166 Bell Court, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born May 21, 1926, in Martinsville, he was a son of Gordon W. Davidson and Berta Rigney Davidson.
On Sept. 23, 1960, he was married
to Donna Davis Davidson, who survives.
He spent most of his life in the Danville area and was of the Baptist faith. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as manager of Finney Mortgage Co.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 325.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Tracy D. Walshaw of Forest; a step-son, Dan R. Brooks of Charles City; three brothers, James A. Davidson of Chatham and William J. Davidson and Robert C. Davidson, both of Danville; two sisters, Glenda D. Watson of Midlothian and Marie D. Midkif of Gretna; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a step-son, Harry T. Brooks.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Bill Soyars and the Rev. Mark Blair.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Jean Gilreath
Jean Braid Gilreath, 74, 756 Holland Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following three months of declining health.
Born March 1, 1922, in Kinghorn, Scotland, she was a daughter of James Hogg and Anne Armitage Hogg.
On Aug. 21, 1944, she was married
to Dempsey George Gilreath, who survives.
During World War II, she served in the Royal Air Force.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area. Prior to her retirement in 1985, she was employed by Dan River Inc. as the No. 8 Stores Clerk for 32 years.
She was a member of Holland Road Baptist Church, where, since 1953, she taught children's, adolescent's and ladies' Sunday school. She was also choir director of the church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Dennis L. Gilreath of Rocky Mount; two daughters, Barbara Jo Dunn of Greensboro, N.C., and Linda Travis of Seminole, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth B. Keely of Kinghorn, Scotland, and Margaret Hannam of Cardiff, Wales; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Gilreath, and a son, Alan Gilreath.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Holland Road Baptist Church by the Rev. Harold Chilton and the Rev. James Mayes. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Eva Hall
A graveside service for Eva Doss Hall, 77, 417 Third Ave., will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Lee D. Ellison and the Rev. Steve Carlton.
She died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996, in her residence, following a year of declining health.
Born March 3, 1919, in Guilford County, N.C., she was a daughter of Coleman Doss and Ida June Pickeral Doss.
On April 12, 1941, she was married
to James Burton Hall, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a waitress in the snack bar at Danville Regional Medical Center.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Jim Hall of Danville; three sisters, Bessie Milam of Roanoke, Mamie Saunders of Danville, and Effie Pickeral of Martinsville; two brothers, Odie Doss of Gretna and Clarence Doss of Summerfield, N.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Lloyd Doss, Alvis Doss, and Jesse Doss.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Henry Irvin Jr.
Henry Irvin Jr., 45, 345 Lincoln St., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 16, 1950, in Chatham, he was a son of Henry Joseph Irvin and Janie Mae West Irvin.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of R.M.U.E. Church in Wedgefield, S.C.
Survivors include two sisters, Pattie Howerton of Danville and Thelma I. Walker of Wedgefield, S.C.; and three brothers, Forris Edward Irvin of Danville and Thomas Lee Irvin and Larry Irvin, both of Eden, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday from Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Clarence McLaughlin. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of a sister, Pattie Howerton, 99 Beavers Mill Road.
Margaret Jones
CRYSTAL CITY - A memorial service for Margaret Estelle Jones, formerly of Halifax, Washington, D.C., and Alexandria, will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Saturday from Union United Methodist Church, 1012 Foxtrails Road, South Boston.
She died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, in Potomac Center Nursing Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Margaret Jones of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Virginia Perry of Woodstock and Kate Tickel of Arlington; and six brothers, G.W. Myers and James Myers, both of Gretna, Daniel Myers of Martinsville, Woodrow Myers of Eustis, Fla., Robert Myers and Thomas Myers, both of Halifax.
Kathleen Lipscomb
Kathleen Townes Lipscomb, formerly of Milton, N.C., died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Dec. 31, 1908, in Danville, she was a daughter of J.T. Townes and Mary Tyler Townes.
In 1941, she was married
to George Lansdell Lipscomb, who died April 7, 1996.
She was a graduate of Farmville State Teacher's College (presently known as Longwood College) and taught school in Danville for many years and later in the Caswell County School System.
She was a member of Milton United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher and treasurer and as a member of the Administrative Board.
She was also a charter member and past-president of the Woman's Club of Milton, N.C.
She was the last member of her immediate family, but is survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Marguerite Townes Flippen and Elizabeth Townes Ellis.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Milton cemetery in Milton, N.C., by the Rev. Frankie M. Garton.
