Claude Henderson
Claude Lee Henderson, 74, 3521 Old Richmond Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 15, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Chesley Martin Henderson and Cora Lee Jones.
On Jan. 22, 1947, he was married
to Marie Glass Henderson, who survives.
During World War II, he served in the Army.
He had lived in Danville on Old Richmond Road for the past 50 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Keisters Supermarket as a meat cutter for more than 24 years.
He was also a member of Kentuck Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board and as treasurer of the Fellowship Class.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Marvin Henderson of Charlotte, N.C., and Thomas Eugene Henderson of Danville; and a sister, Arvis H. Carswell of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. David Henry. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Glenn Jones
Glenn C. Jones, 79, 74 Baltimore Ave., died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 5, 1917, in Grayson County, he was a son of Weldon Crocket Jones and Ladora Cox Jones.
He was married
to Cleo Kessler Jones, who survives.
He spent the past 60 years in Danville, where he was employed as an inspector for Dan River Inc. from 1937 to 1982. After retiring, he was employed part-time as a security guard. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy on Baltimore Avenue.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Charles E. Jones of Danville and Rorer F. Jones of Bassett; three sisters, Carrie Lee Anderson of Galax, Ethel Anderson of Troutdale and Mammie Smith of Newport; four half-sisters, Ola Little and Logeane Hash Collins, both of Danville, Ruby Laxton of Virginia, and Maxine Jones of Sparta, N.C.; a brother, Coy Jones of Troutville; two half-brothers, Roby Jones of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Frank Jones of Glade Valley, N.C.; a step-sister, Ann Boone of North Carolina; two step-brothers, Junior Sprinkle and Porter Sprinkle, both of Sparta, N.C.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from the Church of God of Prophecy on Baltimore Avenue by the Rev. Robert Bradley and the Rev. Jack Robertson. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Alonza Coleman
RICHMOND - Alonza T. Coleman, 79, 1020 Bundy Ave., died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, in MCV Hospital, following a stroke.
He was married
to Mabel Davis Coleman, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Herman Coleman of Ashland, and a sister, Jettie Dishman of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday from Immanuel Baptist Church, 3601 Monument Ave., Richmond. Burial will be 4 p.m. Thursday in Mountain View cemetery in Danville.

Rugie Emerson
A graveside service for Rugie E. Emerson, 66, 1409 Claiborne St., was conducted 11 a.m. Monday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Gerald Grubb.
He died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 25, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Henry Clay Emerson and Georgie Tuck Emerson.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include four sisters, Willis Jennings of the residence, Elsie Bennett of Gretna, Julie Hedrick of Danville and Mary Poindexter of North Carolina; and three brothers, Spencer Emerson of Pittsville, Eddie Lee Emerson of North Carolina and James Emerson of Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Harry Tatum
RIDGEWAY - Harry Benton "Ben" Tatum, 50, Route 3, Sheffield Terrace, died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, in his residence.
Born June 4, 1946, in Stuart, he was a son of Katherine Cox Tatum, who survives, and Tom Benton Tatum.
On June 25, 1969, he was married
to Barbara Bell Tatum of Grand Forks, N.D.
While serving in the Air Force, he was stationed in Grand Forks, N.D., and Sembach, Germany, from 1966 to 1970.
He was employed as a service technician for Sprint-Centel, primarily in the Bachelor's Hall, Whitmell, and Ridgeway areas, for 26 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville, and was a former member of Ridgeway Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Ridgeway, survivors include three sons, Neil David Tatum, Craig Matthew Tatum and Jon Andrew Tatum, all of the residence; a brother, Joseph Kenneth Tatum of Vinton; and two sisters, Judy Tatum Hale of Daleville and Mary Elizabeth Tatum Smith of Roanoke.
He was predeceased by an infant son, Donald Benton Tatum.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from First Presbyterian Church, 1901 Patrick Henry Ave., Martinsville, by Dr. Dwight O. Christenbury and the Rev. Jon Martin. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery in Ridgeway, where military rites will be performed by the Veterans Honor Guard of Martinsville and Henry County.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville.

Eleanor Wrenn
Eleanor Evans Wrenn, 68, 317 Gray St., died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born Sept. 16, 1928, in Danville, she was a daughter of Fred Leonard Evans Sr. and Lillie Chattin Evans.
On June 22, 1954, she was married
to Eugene Fredrick Wrenn, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was employed as a waitress in the snack shop at Danville Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She was also of the Presbyterian faith.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Richard "Rickey" Wrenn of Danville; three daughters, Kimberly Faye W. Aldridge of Moosup, Conn., Pamela Kaye W. Trawick of Westhaven, Conn., and Kathy Jean W. Benton of Danville; two brothers, Fred Leonard Evans Jr. of Danville and Charles Elton Evans of Burkeville; a sister, Marion Evans Smith of Sanford, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by two brothers, William Evans and Julian G. Evans, and a sister, Norma Clark Evans.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jeff Aldridge and the Rev. Kenneth Trawick. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Henry Bowen
The funeral for Henry Willis Bowen Jr., of 45 Ashlawn Drive, will be conducted 11 a.m. today from Schoolfield Baptist Church by the Rev. David Turbyfill. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
He died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at his residence after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 20, 1945, in Danville, he was a son of Henry Willis Bowen and Louise Haskins Bowen.
He was educated in the Danville Public Schools. He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in the Q-Tech Department.
He was a member of Schoolfield Baptist Church.
On Oct. 3, 1964, he married
the former Judy Bourne.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two sons, Henry Willis "Hank" Bowen III and Lance William Bowen, both of Danville; a brother, Dempse Bowen of Danville; and one grandson.

Rugle Emerson
Rugle E. Emerson, 66, of 1409 Claiborne St., died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Madeline D. Lemon
Mary Madeline Dellis Lemon, 54, 5261 U.S. 29-North, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at her residence.
Born Feb. 6, 1942, in Huddleston, she was the daughter of Clarence Lee Dellis and Letha Mae Overstreet Dellis.
She was a member of Blairs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents of Huddleston, she is survived by her husband, Rev. Luther L. Lemon Jr. of the residence; two daughters, Valerie L. Werner of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Judith L. Ballard of Front Royal; two brothers, Dennis Lee Dellis and Douglas Wayne Dellis, both of Huddleston; and five grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Palestine Church cemetery in Huddleston.
A public worship service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at Palestine Baptist Church by the Rev. Gene Booker.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence in Blairs, 5621 U.S. 29-north.
Deborah Hamner
A graveside service for Deborah Sue Hamner, 46, 222 Courtland St., Apt. 113, will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Freddie J. Vicks.
She died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, in Lynchburg General Hospital, following 12 years of declining health.
Born Nov. 6, 1950, in Hartsville, S.C., she was a daughter of Sarah Winburn Holley, who survives, and Raymond Thomas Holley.
She spent her life in Danville and was a member of Third Avenue Christian Church. She was employed by J.B. Moore Air Freight in Lynchburg.
In addition to her mother of Danville, she is survived by a son, Mel Cassada of Dry Fork; a brother, Donnie Ray Holley of Leasburg, N.C.; and her grandmother, Mary Oakes Holley of Danville.
The family will receive friends at 175 American Legion Blvd.

Roy Henderson
Roy Melvin Henderson, 75, 111 Naples St., died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born Feb. 28, 1921, in Schoolfield, he was a son of Addison B. Henderson and Ola Goble Henderson.
On Dec. 17, 1941, he was married
to Margaret Iolene Wentz Henderson, who survives.
Until his health began to fail, he was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church for 35 years, where he was a member of the Fellowship Class, and a former deacon, Sunday school teacher, training union director, R.A. leader, co-chairman of the visitation program and chief usher.
He was also a member of the VPI Fellowship of Riveroak Church Schoolfield Fellowship, Danville Senior Citizen Club, Westover Fellowship and Little Auto Club of Virginia.
For 41 years, he was employed as an auto technician. He worked for Swanson Motors for 21 years and retired from Blackwell Motor Co. in 1982, following 20 years of service.
He served in the National Guard 104 Medical Group for 10 years and left with the National Guard in 1940 for Fort George Meade. During World War II, he served for three and one-half years in Oxford, England; Normandy; the Rhineland, Central Europe. For one week during the Battle of the Bulge, he was a prisoner of war.
He received numerous campaign ribbons, a Good Conduct medal, and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
He was a graduate of Danville Community College.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Brenda Henderson Adams of Danville; a son, Steven Roy Henderson of Danville; a sister, Vona Henderson of Danville; three brothers, Earl Henderson and Clyde Henderson, both of Danville, and Wayne Henderson of Martinsville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Woodlawn Baptist Church by the Rev. William C. Blalock. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park, where graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
