Kevin Preston

GRETNA - Kevin Yolandus Preston, 27, 314 Chaney Lane, died Monday, June 10, 1996, in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born Sept. 6, 1970, in Philadelphia, he was a son of Thomas L. Preston and Barbara Bennett Preston, who survives.
He was last employed by Booth-Research Service Inc., in Atlanta. He was also a former member of Elba Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother of Gretna, survivors include a brother, Anthony C. Preston of Clarkstone, Ga.; and his maternal grandmother, Eunice Bennett of Gretna.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, in Gretna, by the Rev. B.I. Baize.

Hattie Walker

Hattie Ethel Walker, 64, 911 Rosemary Lane, died Saturday, June 8, 1996, in her residence.
Born June 14, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Herman and Maggie Coles Jones.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilmer Walker.
Survivors include two daughters, Queen Barbour and Barbara Walker, both of Danville; two sons, Freddie Walker and Jerry Walker, both of Danville; four sisters, Annie Badgett of Altavista, Sallie Saunders of Blairs, Luvenia Shelton of Baltimore, and Ida Davis of Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday from Mount Zion Baptist Church, in Ringgold, by the Rev. London Walker. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Butler

AXTON - Samuel Butler, 82, of Route 2, died Saturday, June 8, 1996, in the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville/Henry County.
Born May 15, 1914, in Bedford County, he was a son of Dave and Mary Butler.
He was predeceased by his wife, Virgie Butler.
He was a retired farmer and was of the Baptist faith. He was also the last member of his generation.
Survivors include six daughters, Louise Butler of Axton, Katherleen Butler of Martinsville, and Elnora White, Mary Myers, Emily White and Betty Dickerson, all of Chatham; five sons, Thomas W. Butler, Junior R. Butler, Robert Lee Butler and Curtis Butler, all of Axton, and Samuel Butler Jr. of Roanoke; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Dearing. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Miller Funeral Home of Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Burdette

MONETA - Ruby Marion Burdette, 76, Route 4, died Sunday, June 9, 1996, in Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Born July 21, 1919, in Bedford County, she was a daughter of John and Susie Leftwich Burdette.
She was a homemaker and a member of Universal Outreach Church of God.
Survivors include two sisters, Edna English of Roanoke and Laura Witcher of Washington, D.C.; and a stepsister, Frances Brown of Altavista.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Reggie Burdette and Lafeyette Burdette; and by two sisters, Odessa Minnis and Gertrude Bradley.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Universal Outreach Church of God, in Bedford, by Bishop Edward M. Crews. Burial will be in Thomas Chapel Church cemetery of Bedford County.
Miller Funeral Home of Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

William "Pete" Johnson Sr.

STRASBURG - William Paschel "Pete" Johnson Sr., 92, 733 Capon St., died Monday, June 10, 1996, in the Rose Hill Nursing Home of Berryville.
Born Feb. 6, 1904, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Robert Paschel and Belle Lewick Johnson.
He was predeceased by his wife, Faturia Mae Adkins Johnson.
He was a member of Strasburg Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Strasburg Lions Club and the Strasburg Moose Lodge No. 403.
Survivors include a son, William P. Johnson Jr. of Winchester; a daughter, Geraldine J. Brown of Strasburg; a brother, Marshall P. Johnson of Danville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Stover Funeral Home, in Strasburg, by the Rev. David C. Derby. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens, in Warren County.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and will meet 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Josephine Mason

GRETNA - Josephine Hawthorne Dudley Mason, 92, died Tuesday, June 11, 1996, in Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 24, 1903, in Campbell County, she was a daughter of Alonza Dudley and Emma Rice Dudley.
She was a member of Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include three sons, Jack Mason, Hubert Mason and George L. Mason, all of Gretna; a daughter, Pauline Smith of Shipman; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ocie Lee Mason; and by a son, Tom C. Mason.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday from Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Chris Brown, the Rev. Ira Yeatts and Dr. Lynn Marstin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, in Gretna, and other times at the former residence of her daughter, Pauline Smith, Route 3, Gretna.

Fannie Mosley

Fannie Williams Mosley, 95, 238 Cleveland St., died Sunday, June 9, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 3, 1900, in Decatur, Miss., she was a daughter of Steve and Roxie Williams.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Canada Mosley.
Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Allen and Desserree Mosley, both of Danville, and Beatrice Mosley of Chicago; a son, Alfred C. Mosley of Colorado Springs, Colo., eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home by the Rev. Jimmy Allen. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of a daughter, Bonnie Allen, 206 Holbrook St.

Curtis Terry

Curtis Gene Terry, 62, of Lee Street died Monday, June 10, 1996, in his residence.
Born May 4, 1934, he was a son of Henry and Pansie Terry.
He was married to Peggy Johnson Terry, who survives.
He was employed by Marshall-Kendall Lumberyard. He was also of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Laverne T. Tarpley and Ernestine T. Lynn, both of Danville; three stepdaughters, Sanda Lipford, Betty Lipford and Melinda Lipford, all of Danville; two sons, Curtis W. Terry Sr. and Gary J. Terry, both of Danville; a stepson, Danny W. Johnson of Danville; two sisters, Helen Terry of Danville and Sallie Lou Oliver of New York; and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of L.H. Brooks and Bro. Funeral Home, by the Rev. Donald McGhee. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at 204 Barrett St.

Thomas Warren

PETERSBURG - Thomas E. Warren, 49, 461 Round Top Ave., died Friday, June 7, 1996, in his residence.
Born April 19, 1947, in Danville, he was a son of Josephine Wright Warren and Hugo V. Warren, who survives.
He was a graduate of Southside High School in Blairs. He also earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology at Virginia State University.
He was employed by Virginia State University in the college bookstore for over 25 years.
He also served in the United States Army.
In addition to his father, survivors include three sisters, Brenda Warren and Evelyn Fallen, both of Danville, and Roberta Warren of Spokane, Wash.; and five brothers, John Warren of Sterling, Charlie Warren of Danville, Howard Warren of Petersburg, Willie Warren of San Francisco and Steve Warren of Martinsville.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home by the Rev. John Tinsley. Burial will be in the Richardson Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Brenda Warren, 175 Sunset Drive, Danville.

Lucille Hupp

CHATHAM - A graveside service for Lucille Lewis Hupp, 87, 332 N. Main St., will be conducted 4 p.m. today from Hillcrest Burial Park by the Rev. Curtis English.
She died Tuesday, June 11, 1996, in her residence.
Born Jan. 23, 1909, in Charleston, W.Va., she was a daughter of John Edward Lewis and Elizabeth Burgess Lewis.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilson Covert Hupp.
She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surivivors include three sons, William Lewis Hupp of Springfield, Ohio, Garrison Scherich Hupp of Mayport, Fla., and Donley Burgess Hupp of Chatham; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight at the residence.
Scott Funeral Home of Chatham is in charge of arrangements.

Mozelle Hyler

Frances Mozelle Gray Hyler, 81, 305 Grays Park Road, died Wednesday, June 12, 1996, in her residence, following two months of declining health.
Born Nov. 15, 1914, in Danville, she was a daughter of Jackson Daniel Gray and Fannie Green Gray.
On July 27, 1940, she was married to Hylton Nowlin Hyler, who survives.
She spent her entire life in the Bachelors Hall community of Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker. She was also a member of Saint John's United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Frances Elizabeth Hyler Hardy of Bachelors Hall; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Saint John's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Steven W. Greer and the Rev. R. Fletcher Hardy III. Burial will be in the Gray Family cemetery in Brosville.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence.
