Mary Gauldin

Mary R. Gauldin, 75, 4845 Rock Springs Road, Ringgold, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 1996, at her residence after a four-year decline in health.
Born April 17, 1921, in Greenville, S.C., she was a daughter of James William Revis and Della Mae Metcalf Revis.
She was the widow of Loyd Jefferson Gauldin. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include five daughters, Peggy Davis and Joan Wyatt, both of Danville, Katie Nunn and Shirley Nunn, both of Ringgold, and Mary Lou Gauldin of Reidsville, N.C.; three sons, Lloyd Gauldin of Keeling, Calvin Gauldin of Danville and Bob Gauldin of Ringgold; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Jefferson Gauldin.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete. The family will be at the residence in Ringgold.

Barbara Jackson

Barbara Graves Jackson, 52, 907 Green St., died Wednesday, June 5, 1996, in the Duke University Medical Center of Durham, N.C.
Born April 4, 1944, in Danville, she was a daughter of Howard Graves and Lillie Bell Edwards Graves, who survives.
She was married to Lawrence Taylor, who survives.
In addition to her mother of Danville, and her husband, survivors include three sons, Reginald Graves, Jeff Graves and Gregory Graves, all of Danville; two daughters, Rita Graves and Felicia Banks, both of Danville; a brother, Marvin Graves of New York City; two sisters, Loriane Webster and Carolyn Evans, both of Danville; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted noon Monday from Holy Tabernacle of Jesus Christ on Industrial Boulevard. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Kerns

Mary Frances Sours Kerns, 73, formerly of Chatham and of Baltimore, died Friday, June 7, 1996, in Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore.
Born May 23, 1923, in Chatham, she was the daughter of Charles Gray Sours Jr. and Martha Dearing Sours.
She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Virginia Women in Maryland. Before retirement, she was a teacher in the Baltimore Public Schools and had taught at George Washington High School in Danville before moving to Maryland. She had taught in England as an exchange teacher from George Washington High.
She was married to Bernard R. Kerns.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sisters, Catherine S. Moschler of Burlington, N.C., and Martha S. Young of Richmond; and two brothers, William M. Sours and Benjamin F. Sours, both of Hampton.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Rev. Dr. John S. Ruef. Interment wil be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Scott Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Martha Scearce, 170 Hurt St., Chatham.

Sandy Roach

Sandy Gilmore Roach, 69, 6701 Anderson Mill Road, Chatham, died Saturday, June 8, 1996, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 26, 1926, he was the son of Sandy C. Brooks and Katherine Brooks Roach.
He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at Gretna.
He was married to Agnes Custer Roach.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Sandra R. Osborne of Chatham; three sons, Wayne D. Roach of Martinsville, and Phillip L. Roach and Calvin R. Roach, both of Gretna; four sisters, Elsie Farmer of Gretna, Janie R. East of Newport News, Lucy R. Smith of Altavista and Agnes R. Bell of Danville; one brother, Lloyd Roach of Altavista; and seven grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. today at Scott Funeral Home chapel by James Pritchett. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
The family will be at the residence.

Evangeline Scearce

A graveside service for Evangeline Gosney Scearce, 64, 135 Hayes Court, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Bill Soyars.
She died Thursday, June 6, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 21, 1931, in Danville, she was a daughter of William Henry Gosney and Mary McDaniel Gosney.
On June 2, 1951, she was married to L. Carnell Scearce, who survives.
She spent her entire life in the Danville area, where she was a homemaker. She was also a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Pat S. Payne of Danville; and three sisters, Elsie Martin and Gladys Swain, both of Danville, and Nancy Prillaman of Alabama.
She was predeceased by a brother, Dick Gosney.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Gardner

The graveside service for Minnie Smith Gardner, 85, formerly of 118 Rocklawn Ave., will be conducted 11 a.m. today in Providence Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber.
She died Saturday morning, June 8, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been a patient at Piney Forest Health Care Center for two months.
Born Oct. 25, 1910, in Caswell County, N.C., she was a daughter of Jefferson Smith and Jemina Dabbs Smith.
She was a homemaker and spent most of her life in Danville and Caswell County, N.C. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
She was married to Luther H. Gardner on Feb. 27, 1946. He died on Nov. 7, 1971.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty G. Underwood of Providence, N.C., and Rachel G. Morton of Graham, N.C.; a brother, Jessie L. Smith of Providence; one grandson; and 15 stepgrandchildren and 19 step great grandchildren.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Jefferson Gauldin.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Chapel by the Rev. Fred Cox and the Rev. David Wilson. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.

Robert L. Jones

Robert Lindwood Jones, 51, of Glen Allen, formerly of Danville, died Saturday, June 8, 1996, in St. Mary's Hospital, Richmond.
Born Oct. 25, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Alease Bennett Jones and Henry L. Jones.
In addition to his wife, Alma Elaine Jones of Glen Allen, survivors include seven sisters, Mary Nell Jones, Louise Jefferson and Frances Martin all of Dry Fork; Eva Holt, Elois Terry and Gladys Dickerson all of Danville; and Minnie Ferrell of Spring Lake, N.C.; five brothers, Edward Jones, Thomas Jones and Haywood Jones all of Dry Fork, George Jones of Danville, and Herman Jones of Baltimore.
The funeral will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Guildfield Missionary Baptist Church in Dry Fork by the Rev. Delaware Clarke. Interment will be in the Jones Family cemetery.
The body may be at the church two hours before the service.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mary Nell Jones, Dry Fork. They also may be contacted at 746-1734.
Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., Richmond, is in charge of arrangements.

Sandy Roach

CHATHAM - Sandy Gilmore Roach, 69, 6701 Anderson Mill Road, Chatham, died Saturday, June 8, 1996, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 26, 1926, he was the son of Sandy C. Roach and Katherine Brooks Roach.

Alice Perkins

MARION, S.C. - Alice Reynolds Perkins, 61, died Monday, June 10, 1996, in her residence.
Born in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of Charlie Thomas and Mamie Alice Smith Reynolds.
She was married to David Perkins, who survives.
She was retired from textile manufacturing and was also an antique dealer. She was a Jehovah's Witness.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Stephen Perkins of Ontario, Calif., and Shane Perkins of Marion; a daughter, Deborah E. Cates of Burlington, N.C.; two sisters, Sally Perkins of Advance, N.C., and Louise R. Carter of Danville, Va.; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at Richardson-Miles Funeral Home of
Marion.

Dr. Roger Pierson

Dr. Roger V. Pierson, 75, 120 Dyerwood Place, Southwyck Farms, died Sunday, June 9, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center, following three months of declining health.
Born Oct. 10, 1920, he was a native of London.
He was married to Patricia R. Pierson, who survives.
He had lived in Danville for the past year, where he was employed by the Southern Mental Health Institute as a staff physiatrist.
He was a member of the Church of England. He also served in the British Army during World War II.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Harvey Pierson of Telford, England, Christopher Pierson of Albany, Ga., and David Pierson of Largo, Fla.; two daughters, Beverly Barnett of England, and Susan Pierson of Largo, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. James W. Mathieson.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
