Dolly Ellithorpe

TITUSVILLE, FLA. - Dolly Madeline O'Dell Ellithorpe, 66, 1132 Lane Ave., died May 31, 1996, in her residence.
She was born Sept. 28, 1929, in Danville, Va.
She was married to Bruce Ellithorpe, who survives.
After moving to Orlando in 1964, she was employed as a waitress in various restaurants for many years. She had lived in Titusville for four months.
In addition to her husband of Peoria, Ariz., survivors include two daughters, Carmin Stokley of Titusville and Dolly Brooks of Orlando; two sisters, Hilda Wilkerson and Jackie Touchstone, both of Danville, Va.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Thursday from Shining Light Bible Church, in Orlando.
East Coast Cremation of Rockledge is in charge of arrangements.

Charlie Pruitt Sr.

PELHAM, N.C. - Charlie Leon Pruitt Sr., 49, 1064 Poole Road, died June 1, 1996, on Holland Road in Danville, Va.
Born June 14, 1946, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Irvin Addison Pruitt and Thelma Rigney Pruitt, who survives.
While spending most of his life in Pittsylvania County, Va., and Pelham, he was self-employed as a carpenter. He was also a member of County Line Christian Church.
In addition to his mother of Collinsville, survivors include a son, Charlie Leon Pruitt Jr. of Danville; two brothers, Roger Lee Pruitt of Mountain Valley, Va., and Darrell Lee Pruitt of Ridgeway, Va.; four sisters, Shirley Walker Jones of Eden, and Joyce Pruitt Moore, Diane Pruitt Robertson and Betty Pruitt Gammons, all of Collinsville, Va.; and his fiance, Mary Parsons of Pelham.
He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Lee Pruitt.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Gilbert. Burial will be in the Rigney-Pruitt Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Anna Ramsey

HURT - Anna Lucille Anderson Ramsey, 113 Prospect Road, died Sunday, June 2, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Waller Anderson and Anna Susan Compton Anderson.
She was predeceased by her husband, J. Edward Ramsey.
She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and of Col. Charles Lynch Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
She attended Radford College and Madison College. Until her retirement, she was employed by the Campbell County School system as a teacher.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Shirley Bowling of Hurt and Martha Ramsey Wagner of Troutman, N.C.; four stepgrandchildren, and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Finch and Finch Funeral Home, in Altavista, by the Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will be in Greenpond Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:00 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Joseph Sanders

Joseph Edward Sanders, 90, formerly of 236 Carrollton Road, died Sunday, June 2, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Dec. 10, 1905, in Minnesota, he was a son of Sany Oleg Saunders.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth G. Sanders, who died in 1975, and by his second wife, Ruby Call Sanders, who died in 1985.
He was the owner and operator of Auto Alignment Service. He was also a long-time member of the Danville Life Saving Crew.
He was a member of the U.S. Army, where he served in the European Theater during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Lynn Sanders Davis of Potter Valley, Calif.; one brother, Ralph Sanders of Chicago; and one sister, Marie Sanders of Chicago.
The funeral will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Father Jim Mathieson.

Lenwood Thomas

SOUTH BOSTON - Lenwood Louis Thomas, Route 2, died Sunday, June 2, 1996, in Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born in Halifax County, he was a son of Willie Louis Thomas and Nannie Dyer Thomas.
He was married to Mildred Owen Thomas, who survives.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Until his retirement, he was employed by the Virginia Employment Commission. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corp.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Michael Owen Thomas of Harrisonburg; a sister, Irene Thomas Creath of South Boston; and a brother, Emmis Thomas of South Boston.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from First Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Crewdson and the Rev. Dean Miller. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Powell Funeral Home of South Boston, and other times at the residence.

Lenzy Turner

PURLEY, N.C. - Lenzy Lawrence Turner, 74, 5321 Old Highway 86, died Saturday, June 1, 1996, in his residence.
Born May 14, 1922, in Caswell County, he was a son of Lawrence and Mary Foster Turner.
He was married to Catherine Long Turner, who survives.
He was employed by Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority, until his health began to decline. He also served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Willie Turner and James Turner, both of Yanceyville, and Ricky Turner of Danville, Va.; a daughter, Kay Jeffers of Yanceyville; and five sisters, Oliva Totten and Sally Gwynn, both of Ruffin, Mary Gwynn of Danville, Va., and Corena Rivers and Price-Lea Hairston, both of New York.
The funeral will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Wednesday from Blackwell Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Tanis Adams

DURHAM, N.C. - Tanis Monique Adams died Monday, June 3, 1996.
Born Aug. 14, 1965, in Paterson, N.J., she was a daughter of Mary Dell Harris Adams and Preston Clemon Adams, who survives.
In 1983, she graduated from Paterson Catholic High School. She also attended Norfolk State University, Durham Community College and North Carolina State University.
After moving to St. Paul, Minn., in 1985, she was employed by State Farm Insurance Co. When she moved to Durham in 1992, she was employed by Coastal Healthcare Group Inc.
In addition to her father, survivors include a brother, Sean Clemon Adams; and her maternal grandfather, Joseph Harris of Demopolis, Ala.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her uncle, J.D. Adams, Route 58 West.

Mary Beth Cooper

Mary Beth Cooper, 16, 660 Poplar Trace, died Monday, June 3, 1996, following an automobile accident on U.S. 58.
Born Dec. 30, 1979, in Danville, she was a daughter of Stephen Mack Cooper and Judy Spainhour Cooper, who survive.
She spent her entire life in Danville. She was a junior at George Washington High School, where she was a member of the SADD club and also an active member of the Alys Youth Group.
She was a long-time Girl Scout, having been an original member of the first Daisy Troop. She was also a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents, survivors include a sister, Kelly MacKenzie of the residence; her maternal grandmother, Mary Nelson Spainhour of Danville; and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Cooper of Albemarle, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Thursday from Ascension Lutheran Church by the Rev. Caldwell Day. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Ascension Lutheran Church, and other times at the residence.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Saunders III

James William Saunders III, 39, 501 Slayton Road, died Tuesday, June 4, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, as a result of spinal meningitis.
Born April 10, 1957, in Danville, he was a son of James W. Saunders Jr. and Janet W. Saunders Adkins.
He was married to Cheri Luffman Saunders, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Pittsylvania County, where he was a self-employed contractor. He was a Jehovah's Witness.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Danny Allen Saunders of Danville, and James Tyra Saunders of the residence; one daughter, Heather Lynn Saunders of Danville; three brothers, David Brian Saunders, John Kevin Saunders, and Mack Andrew Saunders, all of Ringgold; one sister, Judy Saunders of Ringgold; and two step-brothers, Terry L. Duncan and Scotty T. Haymore, both of Ringgold; his stepmother, Linda D. Saunders; and stepfather, Jimmy Adkins.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Robert Vermillion. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and other times at the home of his father, James W. Saunders Jr., 712 Chaney Store Road, the Mountain Hill community of Ringgold.

Evelyn Wyatt

Evelyn Walker Wyatt, 76, 118 Dalton St., died Tuesday, June 4, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 28, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charlie H. Walker and Geraldine Esther Seay Walker.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ruben M. Wyatt.
Survivors include a sister, Aileen Walker of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. Thursday from Highland Burial Park by Dr. Eddie Davis. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Sarah Clapp

Sarah Rush Clapp, 98, formerly of 18 Winstead Drive, died Wednesday, June 5, 1996, in Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 23, 1898, in Washington County, she was a daughter of Benjamin Rush and Martha Caroline Rudy Rush.
She was married to Emory C. Clapp, who died Oct. 25, 1964.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was employed by Dan River Inc. until her retirement in 1954. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Newby of Providence, N.C., and Evelyn Rush of Ocala, Fla.; a son, Billy Ray Clapp of Norfolk; 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Barker Funeral Home by the Rev. Bill Adams. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
