Jennie Hightower
Jennie Mae Hightower, 68, 325 Bradley Road, died Monday, May 27, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Henry Hightower and Elizabeth Womack Hightower.
She was a member of Ebeneezer Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Hazel H. Coleman of Keeling; a sister, Leatrice Pope of Java; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday from Ebeneezer Baptist Church by the Rev. J.V. Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. William I. Coleman, 4204 Dodson Road, Keeling.

Gevena Pounds
Geneva Luck Pounds, 58, 336 Gardner St., died Sunday, May 26, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 16, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Frank P. Luck and Ethel Wilson Luck, who survives.
She was married
to Charlie H. Pounds, who also survives.
She was educated in the Pittsylvania County Public School System. She was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She was employed by Hardee's Inc., until her health began to to fail.
In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Cason of Washington, D.C.; a son, Waverly Pounds; a step-son, Howard Williams of Danville; five sisters, Helen Maxine Jones and Elaine Luck, both of Danville, Ruby Busha of Greensboro, N.C., Beverly Broome of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Jean Barnett of Charleston, S.C.; three brothers, Fred L. Luck of Capital Heights, Md., John B. Luck and Marvin E. Luck, both of Danville; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Bethel Baptist Church, Route 360, Danville, by the Rev. Thomas Johnson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Ethel Luck, Vance St., Danville.

Grover Walton Sr.
SUTHERLIN - Grover Wilson Walton Sr., 81, 3131 Hackberry Road, died Monday, May 27, 1996, in his residence.
Born April 8, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Marcellus Henry Walton and Virgie Alice Lewis Walton.
He was married
to Mary Stallins Walton, who survives.
He was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. He was employed by Cloverdale Lumber Co. as a mill supervisor. He also served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include his former wife, Pricie Mae Whitt of Danville; four daughters, Wilsie Dianne Hamlett of Leasburg, N.C., Inez Marie Morgan of Danville, Brenda W. Cosner and Linda W. Jones, both of Ringgold; three sons, Grover Wilson "Bill" Walton Jr. of Sutherlin, Earl Edmun "Butch" Walton of Danville, and Wade Walton Sr. of Callands; two sisters, Rosie Bledsoe and Ruby Sonner, both of Richmond; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of Barker Funeral Home by the Rev. Dale Proctor. Graveside military honors by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard will be given at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence, 3131 Hackberry Road (formerly Sutherlin Road), State Road 656, Sutherlin.
Robert Allen
CALLANDS - Robert Fuller Allen, 83, Route 1, died Wednesday, May 29, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 24, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of William Otey Allen and Grace Arnn Allen.
He was married
to Christine Graves Allen, who died Jan. 29, 1989.
He was a member of Pittsylvania Lodge #24 A.F. and A.M., the Danville Scottish Rite Bodies, and ACCA Temple Shrine. He was also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Callands Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Prior to his retirement, he was a rural mail carrier.
Survivors include a brother, W. Earl Allen of Chatham; and one grandchild.
He was predeceased by a son, Raymond William "Billy" Allen.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from the chapel of Scott Funeral Home, in Chatham, by the Rev. Robert C. Royal and Dr. William L. Trimyer. Interment will be in Chatham Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Arie Reynolds
CHATHAM - Arie Reynolds Reynolds, 86, 10772 Callands Road, died Tuesday, May 28, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Sept. 13, 1909, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Silas C. Reynolds and Cora Blair Reynolds.
She was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel Ernest Reynolds and Claude D. Reynolds, both of the residence; a daughter, Sue R. Garner of Richmond; two brothers, J. Leonard Reynolds of Alexandria, and Silas Addison Reynolds of Ruckersville; two half-brothers, Shirley C. Reynolds of Powhatan, and Van C. Reynolds of Waynesboro; a half-sister, Patsy R. Rosser of Altavista; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Samuel Reynolds: a sister, Della R. Reynolds; two brothers, Clifton B. Reynolds and Charles F. Reynolds; and a grandson.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Hollywood Baptist Church by the Rev. J. Haywood Alcorn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Charles Towler
Charles Lindbergh Towler of Chesterfield County died Monday, May 27, 1996, in Hunter-Holmes McGuire Veterans Medical Center of Richmond.
Born July 5, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Lillie Maude Woodson Towler and John Thomas Towler.
He served in the U.S. military from 1950 to 1963.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Ellen T. Mormann of Chatham and Mildred Edmunds T. Harris of Danville.
He was predeceased by F. Louise Brooks, Margaret I. Brooks, Stella Rebecca Anderson, Edward T. Towler, John Thomas Towler Jr., Robert Lee Towler and Eugene Goodson Towler.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Quantico National Veterans cemetery.
James Beggarly
BOWIE, Md. - James Louis Beggarly, 66, 3613 Edmond Way, died Wednesday, May 29, 1996, in Prince George Doctor's Hospital of Lanham, Md., following five months of declining health.
Born Feb. 22, 1930, in Danville, Va., he was a son of Russell V. Beggarly and Annie Burnett Beggarly.
He was married
to Joann Reeves Beggarly, who survives.
He spent most of his life in the Danville area, Washington D.C., and Maryland. He was employed in real estate and retail. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Jim Beggarly of New York, N.Y.; and two brothers, Carl Beggarly of Danville and Van Beggarly of Richmond, Va.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Norman Chattin. The family will receive friends at the residence of Elizabeth Richardson, 1943 Blair Loop Road, Danville.

James Compton Jr.
BUFFALO JUNCTION - James Otis Compton Jr., Big River Ranch, died Wednesday, May 29, 1996, in Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born April 28, 1927, in Halifax County, he was a son of James Otis Compton and Hester Mayhew Compton.
He was married
to Sandra Allen Compton, who survives.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. After being discharged in 1954, he served in the Reserves until 1960. He owned and operated Compton's Flying Service from 1951 until his retirement in 1981.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a brother, Watson Henry Compton.
He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Edward Compton.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Powell Funeral Home of South Boston. The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Stephen Davis
OCILLA, GA. - Stephen Maxwell Davis, 78, formerly of 1555 Kemper Road, Danville, Va., died Saturday, May 25, 1996, in Palemon Gaskin Nursing Home of Ocilla.
Born Dec. 4, 1917, in Ocilla, he was a son of Frank and Leona Estella Davis.
He was married
to Alphree Smith Davis, Danville, who died Aug. 8, 1990.
He was a graduate of Ocilla High School, who received his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Georgia State University and his master's degree from Rutgers University.
During World War II, he served in the Air Force 99th Fighter Squadron. He was also personnel chief of the Tuskegee Airmen, and he served in the North African/Italian campaign. After being wounded in the invasion of Sicily, he received a purple heart and two bronze medals.
For a brief time, he was employed as a vocational agriculture instructor in Richland and Norfolk, Va. Then, he worked as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in New York City until his retirement.
Survivors include two sisters, Annie L. Everett and Gussie C. Phillips; and two brothers, Clarence F. Davis and Curtis B. Davis.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Floral Hills Memory Gardens by the Rev. Haywood T. Gray.

James Walters
RINGGOLD - James Calvin Walters, 58, Route 2, Box 1524, died Monday, May 27, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 28, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Willie Walters and Ellen Lee Walters, who survives.
He was a member of Sunny Level Baptist Church and of St. John Masonic Lodge #828.
He also served in the U.S. Army and was employed as a carpenter.
In addition to his mother of Ringgold, survivors include two daughters, Patricia Lassiter and Diane Walters, both of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Cornelia W. Garland of Ringgold and Betty Elder of Pikeville, Md.; two brothers, Cleveland Walters and Leroy Walters, both of Ringgold; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. today from Sunny Level Baptist Church by the Rev. William Thomas. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Cindy White
Cindy Lue Wilson White, 41, 1644 Leemont Court, died Thursday, May 30, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 27, 1955, in Danville, she was a daughter of Bruce Lester Wilson and Rosie McDaniel Wilson, who survive.
She was married
to James D. White, who died Jan. 29, 1986.
While spending her entire life in Danville, she was employed as a certified nursing assistant for Hallmark Home Health Care. She was also of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her father and mother of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Rose Marie Rigney and Donna Jo Atherton, both of Danville; and one grandchild.
She was predeceased by a sister, Sally Ann Wilson, who died March 11, 1993.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
