Doris C. Cecil
Doris Cooper Cecil, 90, of Blue Ridge Nursing Center and formerly of 277 Cecil Lane, Patrick Springs, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at the nursing center.
She was born June 10, 1914, in Patrick County to James Sterling Cooper and Minnie Florence Cummings Cooper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Lee Cecil; six sisters, Mabel Ingram, Lena Cassell, Ocie Pratt, Edna
Smith Hill, Ellen Hill and Evelyn Handy; two brothers, Jesse J. Cooper and Fred Woodson Cooper; and a great-grandson, Jacob Lee Wyatt.
She was a homemaker and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are three daughters, Janice Wyatt of Patrick Springs, Ramona Cassady of Spencer and Rose Howell of Collinsville; a son, Kelly Dale Cecil of Patrick Springs; a sister, Irene C. Wyatt of Patrick Springs; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Howell Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Billy J. Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Critz Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, one hour before the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, 70 Cecil Lane, Patrick Springs.

Cecil M. Church
EDEN, N.C. - Cecil ÒBusterÓ Mayberry Church, 71, of 1257 Rivercrest Drive, Eden, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born Nov. 17, 1933, in Spray (now Eden) to Joseph Church and Bessie Leonard Church, both deceased.
He retired from Spray Cotton Mills after 43 years of service. He was a member of the First Church of the Living God.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Nancy Jarrell Church of the home; a daughter, Jan C. Wingfield of Ridgeway, Va.; two sons, Jim Church of Eden and Wayne Church of the home; two brothers, Emmett Church of Eden and Lester Church of Columbia, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fair Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Bobby R. Edwards
The funeral for Bobby Ray Edwards, 65, of Ridgeway, who died Feb. 24, 2005, was held Sunday at the Temple of Faith Church with Pastor Bobby L. Lawson and Minister David A. Shelton officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetary.
Pallbearers were Robert Frazier, Doug Lester, Rick Lawson, Brian Wright, Donnie Shough, James Garland, Mike Paulk, Tommy Johnston and Billy Foley.

Margaret H. Higgins
CHINA GROVE, N.C. - Margaret Hodnett Higgins, 78, of China Grove, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Northeast Medical Center in Concord.
She was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Martinsville, Va. ,to Ernest Hodnett and Stella Stokes Hodnett.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Page Woodrow Higgins in 1985.
She graduated from Martinsville High School. She was employed by the South Rowan YMCA in the nursery. She had previously worked for Robert Allen of Salisbury and Pioneer Manufacturing. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two sons, Jimmy W. Higgins of China Grove and William P. ÒBillÓ Higgins of Rockwell; a brother, Robert Hodnett of Martinsville; two sisters, Ruby Minter and Elsie Minter, both of Martinsville; three grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel in China Grove with the Rev. Joseph Tallent officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 today at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son, 165 Deer Haven Drive, China Grove.

Maggie T. Ingram
The graveside service for Maggie Toler Ingram of Martinsville, who died Feb. 25, 2005, was held Sunday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Jyrone Denny officiating.
Pallbearers were Andrew Wright, Shelbern Meeks, Scott Eastridge and Steve Perry.

Junior Johnston
The funeral for Noel Thomas ÒJuniorÓ Johnston Jr., 58, of 9500 Chatham Road, Martinsville, who died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Revs. Harry Meadows and Todd Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
He was born May 28, 1946, in Martinsville to Noel T. Johnston Sr. and Mary Francis Huff Johnston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Woodrow Johnston.
He had been employed by Memorial Hospital in Martinsville for 12 years in the maintenance department. He previously had been employed by Martinsville Concrete Products for 25 years. He was a member of the Dyer Store Volunteer Fire Department and of Valley Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Crowe Johnston of the home; one daughter, Tracy Johnston of Martinsville; one son, David Lee Johnston of the home; two sisters, Shirley Shelton of Tennessee and Pauline Walker of Martinsville; two brothers, Otis
Johnson and Clarence Johnston, both of Martinsville; and one grandson.

Thomas M. Payne
Thomas Milton Payne, 87, of Doran and formerly of Whitewood, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born in Buchanan County to Alex Payne and Mary Rakes Payne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Louise Payne; and two sisters, Juanita Keen and Tilda Hawkins.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and a member of United Mine Workers of America
Surviving are three sons, Charles A. Payne of Spotsylvania, Jack ÒJackieÓ L. Payne of Great Falls and Billy E. Payne of Martinsville; a daughter, Hester Sue Hanley of Bedford; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Singleton Funeral Service chapel in Cedar Bluff with Ministers Clarence Herron, Charlie Cooper and Richard Hanley officiating. Burial will be in Blankenship-Wimmer Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons.

Jessie J. Pearl
The funeral for Jessie J. Pearl, 78, of Bassett, who died Feb. 24, 2005, was held Sunday at Bassett Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Avery Preston officiating. Burial was in the Hairston family cemetery.

The funeral for Kathy T. Penn, 51, of 245 Laurel Drive, Martinsville, who died Feb. 24, 2005, was held Sunday at New Design Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Neal officiating. Burial was in New Design Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Christopher Dillard, Roger Dillard, Curtis R. Millner, Steven Galloway, Demond Stokes and Richard Harris.

Maggie K. Vaughan
The funeral for Maggie Kathleen Vaughan, 96, of Fries, who died Feb. 25, 2005, at her home, was held Saturday at Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Matt Linkous officiating. Burial was Sunday in Mt. Hope United Methodist Church cemetery.
She was born Aug. 15, 1908, in Allisonia to Ballard Akers and Clara Duncan Akers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Alvin Vaughan.
Surviving are four daughters, Deloris Young, Louise Asbury, and Dixie Lineberry, all of Fries, and Betty Sayers of Roanoke; two sons, Doug Vaughan of Bassett and Ray Vaughan of Vinton; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
