Georgia Mann
Georgia Mae Hanks Mann, 81, 110 Conway Court, died Tuesday, April 23, 1996, at her residence following five years of declining health.
Born Aug. 7, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charlie Mann and Irene Hyler Mann.
She was married
to Lum Unice Mann, who survives.
While spending her entire life in Danville, she attended Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church.
She was employed by Dan River Inc. in the winding room for 38 years, until her retirement. Then, she worked as an escort for the Memorial Hospital of Danville for 14 years, until her retirement.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Brenda Mann Jennings of Chatham; one son, Lum Unice Mann Jr., of Danville; one sister, Janie H. Parker of Danville; one brother, Sam Hanks of Danville; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. Thursday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Freddie J. Vicks.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Ruth Parrish
Ruth Ann Boyd Parrish, 86, formerly of 148 Sutherlin Ave., died Tuesday, April 23, 1996, in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born July 22, 1909, north of Woolwine in Patrick County, she was a daughter of Harriet Clifton and Putnam Nathaniel Boyd.
While living most of her life in Danville, she was a long-time resident of 524 West Main Street. She was also a charter member of West Main Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, James Howard Parrish Jr., of Charlotte, N.C., and Edwin Boyd Parrish of Danville; two sisters, Nancy Collins of Roanoke, and Lucy Triplett of Danville; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday from the chapel of Townes Funeral Home by the Rev. Bruce Wilson. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her son, 224 James Road, Danville.
A.C. Cheek
RICHMOND - Alvis Cheek "A.C." Barker, 53, of Route 3, Axton, died Wednesday, April 24, 1996, in Richmond during a fishing trip.
He was born in Henry County.
He was married
to Ann Gee Barker, who survives.
He was co-owner of A.C. Furniture in Pittsylvania County.
He also served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Ricky Lee Barker of Cascade; two sisters, Dolly Wilson and Annie Mae Whitlock, both of Axton; one brother, David Ray Barker of Axton; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Fair Funeral Home in Eden, N.C. Burial will be in Ridgeview cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Edna Goin
CREWE - Edna G. Goin, 60, of Crewe, died Wednesday, April 24, 1996.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard W. Goin.
She was a life-time member of the Crewe Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Goin of Wakeforest, N.C., and Michael Goin of Crewe; one daughter, Carol Dynes of Idaho Falls, Idaho; three brothers, Wayne Gowin of Crewe, Donald Gowin of Cary, N.C., and Omer Gowin of Newport News; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday from Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home in Crewe. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Gardens.

Lillie Hubbard
BALTIMORE - Lillie Echols Hubbard, 68, of Baltimore, died Tuesday, April 23, 1996, in her residence.
Born Aug. 2, 1927, in Danville, Va., she was a daughter of Kenny Echols and Geneva Dodson Echols.
She was employed by the School of Mechanical Engineers as a financial secretary.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan H. Penn of Baltimore; one son, James Edward Hubbard Jr., of Derry, N.H.; one brother, Kenny Echols Jr., of Baltimore; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday from Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. J. Griffith. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The body may be viewed 4-8 p.m. today at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home, in Danville. The family will receive friends at the residence of Delores Davis, 219 Broad Street, Danville.
Louise Barton
Louise Logue Barton, 82, of 343 Cumberland Drive, died Sunday, April 28, 1996, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born May 15, 1913, in the Hollywood community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Neal Adkins and Hettie Dodd Adkins.
She was first married
to John Wise Logue, who died in 1974. Later she married
Samuel Barton, who died in 1980.
She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and the Lighthouse Club. She also was a member of West End Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, James Franklin Logue of Detroit and Roy Eugene Logue of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Twila Logue Williams of Danville; one sister, Irene Matherly of Danville; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several step-grandcildren and step-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. William Dozier. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Robert Clay
HURT - Robert Anderson Clay, 16, of 981 Elbow Road, died Sunday, April 28, 1996, in University of Virginia Hospital.
Born Sept. 10, 1979, in Lynchburg, he was a son of Russell M. Clay Jr. and Mary Lou Mays Clay, who survive.
He attended Edge Hill Baptist Church and was a student at Gretna Senior High School.
In addition to his parents of the residence, he is survived by one brother, Russell M. Clay III of Hurt; paternal grandparents Russell M. Clay Sr. and Clara Dodson Clay of Hurt.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Edge Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Jordan. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the home of his grandparents, Route 1, Hurt.
Charles Coleman
Charles "Chuck" Coleman, 74, of 240 Lady Astor Place, died Sunday morning, April 28, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for three years.
He was born May 31, 1921, in Kentucky.
He was a retired hotel maintenance enginner and spent most of his life in San Diego, Ca., and Rosewell, N.M.
He attended Riveroak Church of God.
During World War II, he served in the 101st Airborne Division.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Freeze Coleman, of the residence; and one brother, Marvis Frazier of Roswell, N.M.
The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Tim Hill.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Robert Hairston
CASCADE - The funeral for Robert Lee Hairston, 87, of Route 1, will be held 2 p.m. Tusday at Star of Bethlehem Way of the Cross Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He died Saturday, April 27, 1996.
He was a native of Pittsylvania County and retired carpenter.
Survivors include one son, Robert Lee Hairston Jr. of Philadelphia, and one daughter, Marie Saunders of Ringgold; one sister, Sadie Hairston of Eden, N.C.; and several grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 1:30-2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Virgie Johnston
Virgie Mable Johnston, 89, of 103 Canary Drive, died Sunday morning, April 28, 1996 at her residence.
Born Feb. 14, 1907, in Callands, she was the daughter of William Edward Johnston and Rosa Gray Johnston.
She was a retired bookeeper from Dan River Inc.
She was a former member of Christian Church of Callands.
Survivors include two sisters, Pearl J. Barker and Eliza Strader of Danville.
The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Lee Ellison.
The family will be at the residence.

Annie Lovelace
Annie Chaney Lovelace, 93, of 171 New Street, died Friday, April 26, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 3, 1902, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Henry White and Dephia Barksdale Lovelace.
She was married
to John Lovelace, who predeceased her.
She retired from Dibrell Brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Louise Wimbush of Harrison, N.Y., and Margaret Wade of Milton, N.C.; three brothers, Eddie White of Bronx, N.Y., Willie White of Danville and Pearly White of Portsmouth; one sister, Mary Gunter of Danville; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Java by the Rev. John Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Willie Pritchett, 168 Maxine Road, Danville.

Arletta Nash
Arletta Macon Nash, 77, of Route 6, Box 1506, died Saturday evening, April 27, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center after many years of declining health.
Born July 26, 1918, in Randolph County, N.C., she was a daughter of Carmie C. Macon and Gelyar Cox Macon.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area and had lived in the Brosville community since August 1993. She was a homemaker and a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include her husband, Lemuel Nash of the residence; one son, Lemuel M. Nash of the residence, and one sister, Rebecca Hudson of Asheboro, N.C.
The graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. Joe Beck and the Rev. John C. Gentry.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
