Robert Coles
Master Sgt. Robert Demetrius Coles, 33, of 164 White St., died Saturday, April 7, 1996, while serving in the U.S. Army in Italy.
Born Aug. 1, 1962, in Danville, he was the son of Barbara S. Coles who survives.
Other survivors include four sisters, Karen Harris of Lynchburg, Sheila Coles, Kathy Pounds and Andrea Jones all of Danville; three brothers, Leonard Coles of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Donzell Coles and Barton Shirley both of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Camp Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. W.J. Toomer. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

E.C. Gerringer
E.C. Gerringer, 78, of 205 Clement Ave., died Saturday, April 13, 1996, in Semora N.C.
Born Jan. 23, 1918, in Pelham, N.C., he was a son of Eli Craven Gerringer Sr. and Lilly May McGee Gerringer.
He spent most of his life in Danville and was an agent for North American Van Lines for 42 years.
He was a member of Virginia Movers Conference, and president and owner of Merchants Delivery Moving & Storage Inc.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, where he served on the board of deacons and as superintendent of Sunday school No. 3.
He had life membership in the P.T.A and served on the board of directors of Goodwill Industries. Other memberships included Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge, Danville Consistary of Scottish Rite, and ACCA Temple Shrine.
He had received the Sertoma Man of the Year award.
On Oct. 16, 1941, he was married
to Ruth Owen Gerringer, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Earlene G. Riddle and Diane G. Collie both of Danville; one son, Stephen Phillip Gerringer of Danville; one sister, Sara G. Carter of Ruffin, N.C.; one brother, Sidney Gerringer of Rockingham, N.C.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Lee Ellison. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Allen Collie, 145 Fox Hollow Drive, Danville.
Poulia Goches
Poulia Aslane Goches, 83, died Sunday morning, April 14, 1996, in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 11, 1912, in Stenoma, Greece, she was a daughter of Serafim Aslane and Fotinia Aslane.
She was a member of Saint Peter's Greek Orthodox Church and was married
to Christ John Goches, who died Aug. 27, 1970.
She is survived by a daughter, Pam G. Katsifos of Martinsville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from Saint Peter's Greek Orthodox Church by Father Thomas Ninnis. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. today at Townes Funeral Home.
A Trisagion Prayer Service will be held 7:30 tonight at Townes Memorial Chapel by Father Thomas Ninnis.
Ann Marie Setliff
Ann Marie Setliff, 51, of 353 Ferry Road, died Sunday morning, April 14, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center after a two-week decline in health. She had been in the hospital for one week.
Born Aug. 14, 1944, in Danville, she was a daughter of Willie Joe Setliff Jr., who survives, and Una Jefferson Setliff.
She spent her entire life in Danvile, where she worked as an inspector in quality control at Corning Inc. for 23 years. She worked until her health failed.
She was a graduate of George Washington High School and was a member of Stokesland Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her father of the home, include a brother, William "Joe" Setliff of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Michael Ledbetter and the Rev. Don Frank. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times will be at the residence.
Letcher Barley
BASSETT - Letcher Barley, 83, Route 5, Bassett, died Saturday, April 13, 1996, in the Martinsville Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 21, 1912, in Halifax County, he was a son of Morrison Barley Jr. and Vannie Farmer Barley.
His wife, Lula Lawson Barley, died in 1992.
He was employed by the Martinsville Novelty Co. for more than 30 years, and retired from the American Furniture Co. in 1975.
He was a 47-year member of Fort Trial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and usher.
He is survived by two daughters, Betsy Hundley of Bassett and Cordie B. Cahill of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, David Alvis Barley Sr. of Bassett; four sisters, Edna Wisner of Porterdale, Ga., Sadie Berger of Gretna, Katie Hogan of Altavista and Rebecca Adkins of Chatham; one brother, Abner (Dixon) Barley of Bassett; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. today at Fort Trial Baptist Church by the Rev. David Weeks and the Rev. Edwin Moore. Interment will be in Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Betsy Hundley.

Reginald Ramsey
CHESAPEAKE - Reginald Ramsey, 81, Knotts Island, N.C., died Saturday, April 13, 1996, in Chesapeake.
He was born in Danville.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eva Watson Ramsey.
While serving as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, he served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
Survivors include one son, Watson D. Ramsey of Knotts Island; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, by Chaplain Lt. Col. Charles W. Hemming. Burial will be in the Colonial Grove Memorial Park in Virginia Beach.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Charles Thomas
Charles Allen "Chuck" Thomas, 84, of 4566 Westover Drive died Monday, April 15, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center following a month of declining health.
Born Nov. 19, 1911, in Abingdon, he was a son of Edwin J. Thomas and Sarah Emmaline Jones Thomas.
He was married
to Juanita Harris Thomas, who survives.
After moving to Danville, he was employed by Dan River Mills from 1934 until 1953. He later worked in construction.
He later started his own business, C.A. Thomas Cabinet Shop, and worked there until his retirement in 1974.
He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #952. He was also a member of the Westover Senior Fellowship and the Westover Jug Band.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Chares A. Thomas of Brosville and Joseph A. Thomas of Danville; one sister, Mildred Sykes of Greensboro, N.C.; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Fairview United Methodist Church by the Rev. Larry Edmonds and Dr. Tom Evans. Burial will be in the Danville Memorial Gardens.

Earl Compton
GRETNA - Earl Clement Compton, 68, died Monday, April 15, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 29, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Johnnie Luther Compton and Drusilla Haynes Compton.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Joel Compton and Thurman Compton.
Survivors include one brother, Luther Compton of Evington; and one sister, Lottie Compton Motley of Chatham.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today from the chapel of Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, in Gretna, by the Rev. Dennis Trail. Burial will be in the Sheva Church of Christ cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Lottie Compton Motley, State Route 649, Chatham.
Blondola Cowan
Blondola Brodnax Cowan, 91, 203 Holbrook St., died Sunday, April 14, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 23, 1904, in Danville, she was a daughter of Pleasant S. Brodnax and Elizabeth Blackwell Brodnax.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. C. Cowan.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she served as a trustee, organist, and gospel chorus member. She served as a Sunday school teacher of the Mary Goode Bible Class and was also a member of Church Women United.
She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge, As You Like It, Senior Citizens Club.
Survivors include two brothers, Pleasant S. Brodnax and Thomas Brodnax, both of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday from Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Serenus T. Churn Jr. Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery.
The remains may be viewed this afternoon at L.H. Brooks and Bro. Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence of Thomas Brodnax, 214 Holbrook St.
Kenneth Seay
Kenneth Gerald Seay, 86, 1636 Leemont Court, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, in his residence, following 10 years of declining health.
Born June 10, 1909, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Edward Wade Seay and Lessie Brooks Seay.
He was married
to Pattie Hunt Seay, who survives.
While living most of his life in Danville, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, until his retirement.
Prior to his career with the Postal Service, he worked with his father at Seay Grocery.
He was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church.
He was also a member of the Poquoson Tribe of the Improved Order of Red Men.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Joanne S. Bennett of Richmond; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Leemont cemetery by the Rev. William C. Taylor.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence.
