Louise Wyatt
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Louise N. Wyatt, 85, Port St. Lucie, formerly of Danville, died Thursday, July 4, 1996.
She was born July 12, 1910, in Norfolk, Va.
She was married
to C. Carroll Wyatt, who survives, for 61 years. She was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. She graduated from Longwood College and was a teacher for 40 years.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Maurer of Vero Beach, and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda C. Wyatt; a sister, Peggy N. Bailey; a brother, John H. Nininger; and her parents.
Rosa Dudley
Rosa Turner Dudley, 74, 126 Belaire Drive, died Wednesday, July 17, 1996, in her residence, following several years of declining health.
Born July 29, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Billy Turner and Laura Lee Norton Turner.
She had lived in the Westover Hills community for 20 years. She was employed by Dan River Mills in the No. 3 Dress Room until becoming disabled.
Having been of the Baptist faith, she was a former member of Sharon Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Della Turner Tate of Danville; and a brother, Luther Turner of Cascade.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Allen Holder. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Marjorie Booker, 245 Belaire Drive, and at the residence.
Sadie Moore
Sadie Gauldin Moore, 80, 582 Elizabeth Street Extension, died Wednesday, July 17, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health since 1992.
Born June 9, 1916, in Henry County, she was a daughter of Willie Ed Gauldin and Minnie Burnett Gauldin.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area, where she was employed by Dan River Inc. in the No. 3A Dress, before retiring in 1981. She was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Barker and Jean M. White, both of Danville; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eston P. Moore, who died May 1969, and by a son, James Edward Moore, and a daughter, Alease Powell.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. J. Richard Markham. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Barker, on Tuckaway Lake Road off of Elizabeth Street Extension.
Billy Chaney
LYNCHBURG - Billy Kent Chaney, 72, 428 McConville Road, died Thursday, July 18, 1996, in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of William A. Chaney and Mattie Dodson Chaney.
He was married
to Virginia Baynes Chaney, who survives.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Lynchburg.
In addition to his wife of Lynchburg, survivors include two sisters, Fannie C. Terry of Chatham and Willie C. Wright of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from the Chaney Family cemetery by Elder Danny Parker. The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Whittle Street, Chatham.

Charles Haley
HURT - Charles Berry Haley, 86, 3935 South Dakota Ave., N.E., Washington, D.C., and formerly of Hurt, died Tuesday, July 16, 1996, in the Bayside Nursing Home of Lexington Park, Md.
Born March 11, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Henry Haley and Frances Marshall Haley.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dora Jenkins Haley.
He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Hurt. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Area Transit Authority as a mechanic. He also served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include a brother, Fitzhugh Haley of Washington, D.C.; and two sisters, Nettie Haskins and Wilma Douglass, both of Washington, D.C.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Mount Moriah Baptist Church by the Rev. James Ray. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

James Meeler Jr.
James Wallace Meeler Jr., 58, 129 Beech Ave., died Wednesday, July 17, 1996, in Winston-Salem Baptist Hospital.
Born Dec. 21, 1937, in Halifax County, he was a son of James Wallace Meeler Sr. and Hurley Jewel Coates Meeler, who survive.
He was employed as a surveyor.
In addition to his parents of Alton, survivors include four sisters, Jean M. Wilborne of Taylors, S.C., Nancy M. Meeler of South Boston, and Jane M. Hall of Alton; and Deborah M. White of Dry Fork; and two brothers, Larry C. Meeler of Gretna, and Eldridge Meeler of Oxford, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Olive Branch United Methodist Church, in Alton, by the Rev. Michael Telxeira and the Rev. James Boyd. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his parents, Highway 58 West, Alton.

Lelia Scearce
Lelia Greene Ashworth Scearce, of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, died Thursday, July 18, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 7, 1908, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Greene Clay Ashworth and Ida William Powell Ashworth.
She was married
to Harry W. Scearce Sr., who died Oct. 19, 1977.
With her husband, she owned and operated The Home Laundry and Dry Cleaners for 32 years.
She was a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church for 15 years, where she was a choir member and teacher in the junior department. She was also past president and member of the Nora Moseley Sunday school class.
Survivors include two sons, Harry Scearce Jr. of Danville, and Kenneth Wayne Scearce of Laurel Woods; a daughter, Evelyn Yaffe of Cape Cod, Mass.; a brother, Howard Ashworth of Titusville, Fla.; three sisters, Ruth Soyars of Danville, Comer Barrett and Cleo Barrett, both of Roxboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Townes Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Richard Cobb and the Rev. James Gravely. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, 338 Laurel Wood Drive.
Iris Shelton
CHATHAM - Iris Elliott Shelton, 78, 1905 Sheva Road, died Thursday, July 18, 1996, in her residence.
Born Aug. 1, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Thomas Howard Elliott and Serrelzer Frances Wells Elliott.
She was predeceased by her husband, Curtis Overby Shelton.
She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and of the Morgan Johnson Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 44.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth O. Shelton of Leesburg; a daughter, Joan S. Bull of Horsey; a brother, Ira Vann Elliott of Danville; three sisters, Lucille E. Hayden of Chatham, Cordie E. Shelton of Danville, and Erma E. Motley of Arcida, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. James Bullock and the Rev. Eugene Payne. Burial will be in the Shelton Family cemetery.

GRETNA - Moncie Gerald Dalton, 67, 6088 Deer View Road, died Friday, July 19, 1996, in Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born May 19, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Lillard Jehue Dalton Sr. and Cordie Stephens Dalton.
He was married
to Clarice D. Dalton, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by BGF Industries. He was also a farmer and a member of Gretna Christian Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Gerald William Dalton, McKinley Wade Dalton and Lillard Ray Dalton, all of Gretna; five daughters, Bonnie D. Franklin, Lottie D. Manning, Glenda D. Osborne and Clarice Lynn Dalton, all of Gretna, and Brenda D. Doss of Chatham; a brother, S.D. Dalton of Gretna; a sister, Caroline D. Dalton of Gretna; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Grady Dalton Sr. and Lillard Jehue Dalton Jr.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Gretna Christian Church by the Rev. Cecil Rhodes, the Rev. Roy Parker and Neville Shelton. Interment will be in Gretna Burial Park.

Terry Johnson
Terry Glenn Johnson, 28, 116 Dublin Court, died Thursday, July 18, 1996, in Duke University Medical Center.
Born Nov. 29, 1967, in Wayne County, N.C., he was a son of James Edward Johnson Sr. and Edna Ruth Grace Johnson, who survive.
Prior to his two-year illness, he was employed by Revco in retail management. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville and his father of Goldsboro, N.C., survivors include a sister, Carol Anne Schivley of Blanch, N.C.; and two brothers, James "Jimmy" Johnson of Danville and Robert Wayne "Robbie" Johnson of Providence, N.C.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dora Lynn Johnson.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Wayne Jones. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Marley Funeral Home, in Yanceyville, N.C., and other times at the residence.
Hattie Conner
CLOVER - Hattie Womack Conner, 84, of Clover, died Sunday, July 21, 1996, at Twin Oaks Convalescent Home, South Boston.
Born Sept. 23, 1911, in Roxboro, N.C., she was a daughter of Bratcher and Della Womack.
She was a homemaker and was married
to Johnnie Lee Conner, who predeceased her.
At Clover United Methodist Church, where she was a member, she was active in United Methodist Women.
Survivors include two daughters, Maggie C. Guill of South Boston and Ruth C. Moorefield of Clover; three sons, Robert Conner of Danville; Johnny "Jimmy" Conner of Richmond, and Glen Conner of Providence, N.C.; one foster daughter, Mary Hudson of Richmond; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Rachel C. Lester; one sister, three brothers, and a grandson.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Clover United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ann Norton. Burial will be in Clover cemetery.

Buford Moran
CASCADE - Buford C. Moran, 81, of Route 1, Box 1343, died Sunday morning, July 21, 1996, at Martinsville Convalescent Center, Martinsville, after a five year decline in health.
Born Jan. 6, 1915, in Floyd, he was a son of Clarence A. Moran and Etta Moran.
He spent his early years in Floyd County, but spent most of his life in Danville, where he worked in maintenance at Dan River Inc.
He was a member of Lighthouse Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Chitwood Moran of the residence; two daughters, Mary Moran Saunders of Cascade and Barbara Ann M. Jones of Danville; two sons, Charlie A. Moran of Cascade; Edward C. Chitwood of Danville; and four brothers, Milton Moran, Bruce Moran and Jesse W. Moran all of Danville; and Siebert Moran of Christiansburg; two sisters, Sadie Cox of Pelham, N.C.; and Vedia Cook of Cascade; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Robert L. Vermillion.
