Nancy Ackleson
A memorial service for Nancy Jean Ackleson, 64, 452 Bershire Drive, will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Pelham United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael B. Harrell.
She died Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996, in her residence, following a brief decline in health.
Born June 4, 1932, in Guilford County, N.C., she was a daughter of John W. Hicks and Frances E. Hartgrove, who survive.
She was predeceased by her husband, Oscar R. Ackleson.
She was a member of Pelham United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by three daughters, Bobra J. Finney of Danville, Michelle S. Johnson of Greenville, Ala., and Cheryl Denise Caudle of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Robert L. Stevenson II of Toronto, Canada; and six grandchildren.
Brice Cocke
LYNCHBURG - Brice Tensley Cocke, 83, 416 Oakridge Blvd., died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1996, in Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born April 19, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Winbern and Helen Owen Cocke.
He was married
to Leonie Doss Cocke, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a funeral director by Diuguid Funeral Service.
He was a member of Hill City Lodge No. 183 AF & AM, Scotish Rite, Lynchburg Shrine Club, and Kazim Temple of Roanoke. He was also a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church and A.G. Jefferson Bible Class.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, John William Cocke of Lynchburg and Brice Tensley Cocke Jr. of Daphne, Ala.; a sister, Alice Turner of Danville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a sister, Mirla Haden.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Fort Hill United Methodist Church by the Rev. John A. Siegle. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park, where Masonic rites will be given by Hill City Lodge No. 183 AF & AM.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Fort Hill United Methodist Church.
William Elliott
William Bruce Elliott, 98, Franklin Turnpike, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1996, in Stratford House Health Center. He had been in declining health since 1995.
Born July 20, 1898, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Phillip Elliott and Martha Elliott Elliott.
He was a farmer and a construction worker. He was also a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. He spent most of his life in the Mount Herman community.
He is survived by a daughter, Ruth E. Terry of Mount Herman; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Adrine Elliott Elliott, who died Nov. 22, 1990, and by his son, William Benton Elliott, who died April 6, 1945, in World War II.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. W. Clay Knick.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Benjamin Howard
Benjamin Franklin Howard, 65, 156 Sherwood Drive, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following 16 years of declining health.
Born July 16, 1931, in Danville, he was a son of Henry F. Howard and Ollie Mae Harrill Howard.
On Jan. 5, 1968, he was married
to Flossie Lowe Howard, who survives.
He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the International Lutheran Laymens League, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and a member of the NAACP.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Dan River Mills as a machinist.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Christ the King Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jim Kleinfelter, the Rev. Thomas Motley, and the Rev. Joe Beck. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Joyce Parrish
AXTON - Joyce Marie Nichols Parrish, 57, Route 1, Box 62, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1996, in her residence.
She was born in Rockingham County, N.C.
She was married
to Charlie Parrish, who survives.
She was a member of Axton Baptist Church and was employed by A.C. Furniture in Axton.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Wanda Warren of Danville; three sisters; four brothers; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Axton Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Parrish Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, N.C., and other times at the residence.
Burton Dalton
GRETNA - Burton Lewis Dalton, 85, 4700 Rockford School Road, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996, in his residence.
Born Feb. 26, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James Lewis Dalton and Mattie Schwitzerlet Dalton.
He was married
to Helene Rowland Dalton, who survives.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Midway Baptist Church. During World War II, he served in the Army.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three brothers, Homie Dalton of Gretna, Oscar T. Dalton of Hurt, and Ocie E. Dalton of Gretna; four sisters, Alice D. Dove and Doris D. Creasy, both of Gretna, Beulah D. Hodnett of Rustburg, and Myrtle D. Dalton of Bassett.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Jessie P. Dalton and Ernest Dalton, and by a sister, Ethel D. Martin.
The funeral will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Wednesday from Colbert-Moran Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Lynn Marstin and President Alfred Lester. Interment will be in Gretna Burial Park, where military honors will be given by V.F.W. Post No. 4165 and DAV Chapter 46.
The family will receive friends 5-7 tonight at the funeral home.
Roger Dews
LYNCH STATION - Roger Dale Dews, 34, Route 1, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996, in his residence.
Born Jan. 7, 1964, in Lynchburg, he was a son of Susan Dews, who survives, and Warren Dews.
He was employed by Lawhorn as a truck driver.
In addition to his mother of Lynch Station, survivors include two daughters, Tiara Foxx of Huddleston and Chasity Almeida of Richmond; two brothers, Jerry Wadsworth of Lynch Station and Warren Dews Jr. of Newport News; and two sisters, Linda F. Dews of Cliftwood, N.J., and Sheila Dews-Johnson of Abindgton, Md.
He predeceased by a brother, Perry Dews.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Shiloh Baptist Church by the Rev. Howard Bolden Sr. and Elder Stedman Payne. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother, Route 1, Lynch Station.

Elizabeth Fernstrom
Elizabeth Jean Fernstrom, 70, 186 Grove Park Circle, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996, in her residence, following several years of declining health.
Born May 20, 1926, in Jersey City, N.J., she was a daughter of George Bryan and Lillian Bryan.
On Sept. 16, 1950, she was married
to John Edward Fernstrom, who survives.
She was a homemaker who lived in the Hazlet Township of New Jersey before moving to Danville in 1988.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where she served in the Ladies Circle and was active in other church activities until her health began to fail. She was also a member of the Grove Park Circle Breakfast Club.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a daughter, Elsie Jean Wooton of Boydton; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Richard E. Cobb. A private memorial service will be conducted at the graveside.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence, 186 Grove Park Circle, off South Main Street.
Joe Jennings
CHATHAM - Joe Archie Jennings, 75, 3644 Irish Road, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 4, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Joe A. Jennings and Dora Fuller.
He was employed by Hooker Furniture Co.
Survivors include three sons, Frank A. Jennings of Martinsville, Arthur L. Jennings of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Marvin E. Jennings of Chatham; a daughter, Carolyn Mitchell of Oxon Hill, Md.; four sisters, Nannie Jones of Danville, Lena Jones of Washington, D.C., Virginia Jennings and Amy Morton, both of Dry Fork; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday from Tarpley's Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Devins. Burial will be in Union Hall Baptist Church cemetery.
The body may be viewed 4-8 p.m. today at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence.
Miranda Jones
The funeral for Miranda Blaire Jones, 22 months, 732 Vicar Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, by the Rev. Freddie Vicks and the Rev. Don Davidson. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
She died Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996, in Halifax Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Born Oct. 25, 1994, in Danville, she was the daughter of Michael D. Jones, who survives, and Julie O'Steen Jones, who was killed in the same accident.
Survivors, in addition to her father of the home, include her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cook of Halifax County, and Mr. and Mrs. Lamar O'Steen of Jacksonville, Fla; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Brianna and Bethany Bousman
PENHOOK - Brianna Gale and Bethany Jean Bousman, infant twin daughters of Bill and Tracy Bousman, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital.
In addition to their parents of Penhook, survivors include a brother, Shane Bousman; their grandparents, Wayne and Gale Haskins of Danville, and Billy and Shelba Bousman of Rocky Mount; their great-grandmother, Catherine Martin of Penhook; and their great-great-grandmother, Cora Robertson of Penhook.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. today from the Haskins Family cemetery by the Rev. Glenn Voss.
