CHATHAM - Georgia Valentine Washington, 66, 1196 Beverly Heights Road, died Monday, Sept. 9, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 3, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Fred Valentine and LeAnner Easley.
She was married
to Joseph H. Washington, who survives.
She was employed by the Hilton. She was also a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she served as an usher.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three sons, Alfred Washington of Philadelphia, Wayne Washington of Long Island, N.Y., and Ervin Washington of Danville; a daughter, Constance W. Taylor of Danville; four sisters, Doris Valentine of Washington, D.C., Lois Valentine of Brooklyn, N.Y., Madeline Hardy of Washington, D.C., and Loraine Wimbush of Silver Springs, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Mt. Olive Baptist Church by the Rev. London Walker. The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Tyrone Hairston
Tyrone Marvin Hairston, 28, 325 Kennon Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 12, 1967, in New York City, he was a son of Marvin Hairston and Gwendolyn Brown Hairston, who survive.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Mark Hairston of Danville; his paternal grandmother, Alma Hairston of Danville; and his maternal great-grandmother, Alice Hampton of Eden, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Lovell Maxwell Jr. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Cassie Hall
BLAIRS - The funeral for Cassie Dodd Hall, 83, 180 Blair Circle, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Blairs Baptist Church by the Rev. Luther L. Lemon and the Rev. Roy Newton. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
She died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following three years of declining health.
Born Jan. 12, 1913, in Keeling, she was a daughter of John Willie Dodd and Alice Slayton Dodd.
On Nov. 12, 1949, she was married
to Harry Weldon Hall, who survives.
She was a member of Blairs Baptist Church, where she worked with the children's ministry for 20 years. She was a homemaker who spent her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a sister, Frances Dodd Clifton of Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Gladys Hancock
PITTSVILLE - Gladys Towler Hancock, 83, 621 Wade Road, died Friday, Sept. 13, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 6, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Winbern Towler and Annie Owen Towler.
She was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by a son, Edward E. Hancock of Pittsville; six sisters, Cora Brumfield of Altavista, Helen Towler, Frances Towler, and Sally Towler, all of Chatham, Eunice Murphy of Danville, and Mary Ellen Barbour of Gretna; a foster sister, Charlotte Scruggs of Gretna; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jimmie Anderson, and by a daughter, Beulah Catherine Hancock.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Siloam United Methodist Church by the Rev. Alvery Parr and the Rev. Tim Langston. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, in Gretna, and other times at the residence of her son, 301 Wade Road, Pittsville.
Joe Hundley
Ernest Carl "Joe" Hundley, 72, 1211 Greenwood Drive, died Friday, Sept. 13, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following four years of declining health.
Born Aug. 19, 1924, in Danville, he was a son of George Andrew Hundley and Hester Morris Hundley.
On Dec. 8, 1950, he was married
to Hilda Cox Hundley, who survives.
He spent most of his life in the Danville and Fieldale areas. He graduated with the 1942 class of Fieldale High School as salutatorian.
He was employed as office manager for Wilson Food Corp. from January 1947 until March 1981. He was classification officer for Danville City Sheriff's Department from December 1981 until his retirement in 1988.
During World War II, he served in the 285th Field Artillery Observation Battalion in the European Theatre as staff sergeant.
He was a board member of Blairs Volunteer Fire and Rescue, serving as treasurer since 1976. He was also a member of Blairs Ruritan Club, American Legion Post No. 325, Tuscarara Country Club, and Travelers Protective Association.
He has served as Sunday school teacher and deacon at the former Lee Street Baptist Church and Blairs Baptist Church. He has been member of North Main Baptist Church since 1986.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Gina Marie Hundley of Richmond; a brother, Ralph Hundley of Danville; a sister, Doris Dixon Gregory of Java; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Daryl Alan Hundley, a brother, Fred Hoover Hundley, and a sister, Louise H. Reynolds.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from North Main Baptist Church by the Rev. A. Kyle Flora and the Rev. Dr. Eddie Davis.

Elizabeth Martin
Elizabeth Fuqua Martin, 80, formerly of Heritage Towers, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996, in Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Feb. 14, 1916, in South Boston, she was a daughter of Captain William "Bill" Fuqua and Elizabeth Rebecca Edwards Fuqua.
She was married
to Alfred Giles Martin, who died in 1947.
She spent most of her life on Morris Avenue in Danville. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a spinner for Dan River Inc. She was also of the Holiness faith.
She is survived by two sisters, Pearl Fuqua and Minnie Burnitt, both of South Boston; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. Jack Robertson. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home.
Langhorne Motley
PORTSMOUTH - Langhorne Dandridge Motley, 82, Broad Street, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1996, in Danville.
Born in Portsmouth, he was a chief planner and estimator for Shop 31 machine shop in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was later promoted to General Foreman Shop 31. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church.
He was married
to Woodruth Towler Motley, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived a daughter, Woodruth "Woodie" Morgan of Virginia Beach; a sister, Frances Motley Cross of Midlothian; two brothers, William Robert Motley Jr. and Ryland Clay Motley, both of Portsmouth; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Broad Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kathryn Pigg. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

MORRISTOWN, TENN. - Gary Wayne Turner, 51, 2523 McClanahan Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1996.
Born in Leaksville, N.C., he was a son of Walter Rawley Turner and Minnie H. Boyd, who survive.
He was co-owner of Lone Wolf Creations. He also served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents of Eden, N.C., survivors include a son, Timothy Wayne Turner of Tennessee; his step-mother, Rachel Pauline Turner of Eden, N.C.; two brothers, Walter James Turner of Eden, N.C., and Earnest Ray Turner of Centre, Ala.; a step-brother, Richard Wayne Massey of Eden, N.C.; and a sister, Brenda Turner Jarrett of Eden, N.C.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Danview cemetery in Eden, N.C. The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, N.C., and other times at the residence of his sister, 2831 Price Road, Eden, N.C.
Irene Whitlow
CLOVER - Irene W. Whitlow, 87, 12148 J.D. Hagood Hwy., died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996, in her residence.
Born May 11, 1909, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Ernest Whitlow and Nora Martin Whitlow.
She was married
to Charles Samuel Whitlow, who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of Clover Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of Clover, survivors include a son, Alton Whitlow of Clover, three sisters, Blanche Woods and Ruby Saunders, both of Danville, and Effie Whitlow of Chase City; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a son, Samuel O. Whitlow, and by a grandson, Glen Whitlow.
A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday from Clover cemetery by the Rev. Bill Wilkins. The family will receive friends at the residence. The body will rest at the home.

Archie Ryan
Archie Mae Bryant Ryan, 91, formerly of 303 Girard St., died Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996, at th Riverside Health Care Center, where she had been in declining health for four months.
Born April 25, 1905, in Webster County, Ga., she was the daughter of Archie Bryant and Orilla Slocumb Bryant.
She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church where she was active in the Women's Missionary Union, the Young at Heart Club, and the Willing Workers Sunday School class.
She lived in Columbus, Ga., before moving to Danville in 1924.
She was retired from Dan River Inc., where she worked in the sewing room for more than 40 years.
She was married
to John C. Ryan Sr. on Dec. 26, 1924. He died June 11, 1983.
Survivors include two sons, John C. Ryan Jr. and Melvin W. Ryan, both of Danville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Keen Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Campbell.
A private committal service will be conducted at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the residence of her son, John C. Ryan Jr., 210 Meadowbrook Drive.

Shirley Zahrn
SEABROOK ISLAND, S.C. - Shirley Seelman Zahrn died Friday, Sept. 13, 1996, in a Charleston hospital.
Born Dec. 6, 1922, in Belleville, Ill., she was a daughter of George Seelman and Helen Wade Seelman. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior where she was a Sunday school teacher for 15 years and belonged to the Altar Guild.
She was a homemaker. She also volunteered as a hospital gray lady, and with the Mental Health Association and the American Cancer Association.
Survivors include her husband Fred Zahrn of Seabrook; two sons, Thomas V. Zahrn of Cartersville, Ga., and James F. Zahrn of Charlotte, N.C.; and one brother, Richard C. Seelman of Louisville, Ill.
