Archie Glass
Archie Glass, 77, 105 Palm St., died Friday, Aug. 30, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Glass and Dora Waller Glass.
He was married
to Mildred Glass, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the City of Danville.
In addition to his wife, survivors include six daughters, Jannie Davis of Hartford, Conn., Malissa Oakes of Patterson, N.J., Dora Mayo and Bertha Hodnett, both of Danville, Margaret Glass of Irvington, N.J., and Barbara McDaniel of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a son, Sterling Glass of Eden, N.C.; and a sister, Gertrude Glass of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Rehoboth Apostolic Holiness Church by Elder Cory Torain. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Keith Hare
CASCADE - A memorial service for Keith Lee Hare, 24, of Route 1, Box 1200, will be conducted 4 p.m. today from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jack Robertson.
He died Saturday, Aug. 31, 1996, at his residence.
Born May 12, 1972, in Danville, he was a son of Kenneth Lee Hare and Judy Hosmer.
He was married
to Tina McCartney Hare, who survives.
He was a graduate of Tunstall High School, and worked in the cutting room at Dan River Inc. for the past year.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of Aiken, S.C., his mother of Cascade; and his father of Midlothian; one daughter, Elise Hare of Aiken, S.C.; one sister, Tina Marie Lane of Midlothian; two brothers, Kristopher M. Hare of Midlothian; and Phillip Paul Hare of Aiken; and his maternal grandmother, Anna Mead Hosmer of Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his maternal grandmother, Anna Mead Hosmer, 1829 Blair Loop Road.

Beatrice Wiles
RINGGOLD - Beatrice Hardy Wiles, 87, 5996 Kentuck Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 31, 1908, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charlie M. Hardy and Hattie Lewis Hardy.
She was married
to Lester Bruce Wiles, who died Oct. 25, 1989.
She spent her entire life in the Kentuck community. She was a member of Ringgold Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Cannery as a manager for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald B. Wiles of Columbus, Ohio, and Bobby N. Wiles of Danville; a sister, Elsie Hardy Glass of Lynchburg; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Ringgold Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl E. Burger. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Christie Akers
Christie Lynn Akers, 19, 1108 Franklin Turnpike, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1996, in Lexington, due to injuries in an automobile accident.
Born July 15, 1977, in Danville, she was a daughter of Bobby Lee Akers and Susan Monte Buchanan, who survive.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area, and attended Afton Road Primitive Baptist Church. She was past Miss Junior Poppy of American Legion Post No. 325. She was also a past captain of the Mighty Sensation Drill Team.
In addition to her father of the residence and her mother of Danville, survivors include her step-mother, Jane E. Akers of the residence; a son, Dominic James Akers of the residence; a sister, Stephanie Church of Clincho, a brother, Brad Akers of the residence; a sister, Kelsey Akers of the residence; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Reece of Roanoke; her step-maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Coyle of Danville; and her fiance, Gene Hollins of Ettrick.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by Elder Danny Parker. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
William Bliss
CHATHAM - William Evan Bliss, 34, 369 Hillcrest Road, died Monday, Sept. 2, 1996, at his residence.
Born March 11, 1962, in Danville, he was a son of Frank E. Bliss Jr. and JoAnne Graham Bliss, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Merrimack, N.H., but had lived in Chatham for the past several years. He was a member of Nor Dan Church of Christ. He also served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his mother of the residence, he is survived by a sister, Vanessa "Van" B. Martin of Garner, N.C.; and a brother, Frank E. Bliss III of Allenstown, N.H.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. Friday from Highland Burial Park by John M. Hill. The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at 504 Norwood Drive, and other times at the residence of Mae L. Bliss, 504 Norwood Drive, off North Main Street.

Betty Coleman
Betty Burton Coleman, 64, 1094 Franklin Turnpike, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1996, in her residence.
Born July 11, 1932, in Danville, she was a daughter of Joseph Scott Davis and Flossie Sue Cassada Davis.
She was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Frankie B. Gilbert of Ringgold; a step-daughter, Debra C. Coleman of Danville; a brother, Joseph Wayne Davis of Danville; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
She was married
to Jeff Frank Burton, who died Oct. 25, 1971. Then, she was married
to John Wesley Coleman, who died July 10, 1992. She was also predeceased by a brother, David Thomas Davis.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. William Taylor and the Rev. Barry Crumpton. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Raymond Farthing
Raymond Carr Farthing, 204 Marshall Terrace, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 9, 1919, in Keeling, he was a son of Raymond Carr Farthing and Beatrice White Farthing.
On July 27, 1940, he was married
to the former Maggie Rebecca Woodward, who survives.
He was a graduate of Danville Military Institute and attended National Business College in Roanoke.
During World War II, he served on the U.S. Navy hospital ship, Consolation.
He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, the Elks Club, and the American Legion Post No. 325.
He was employed as an insurance representative with American Fire and Casuality Co. Prior to his retirement in 1984, he was employed by Dan River Inc.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Donna F. Jones of Greensboro, N.C., and Harriet F. Resio of Danville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Mount Vernon United Methodist Church by the Rev. John LeGault. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Theo 'M' Hedrick
Theo "M" Hedrick, 74, 222 Courtland St., Apt. 216, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1996, in Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Martinsville.
Born Nov. 14, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Lawson L. Hedrick and Lovie James Arthur Hedrick.
On Jan. 4, 1950, he was married
to Charlotte Johnson Hedrick.
He was a graduate of Chatham High School and attended auctioneer school in Illinois. He was self-employed as a broker. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, David B. Hedrick and Charles Q. Hedrick, both of Danville; a sister, Lena Hedrick Scruggs of Chatham; a brother, Douglas Hedrick of Chatham; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Daryl S. Joyce. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive 7-8:30 tonight at the residence of his son, David Hedrick, 122 River Oak Drive.
Dorothy McGill
Dorothy Christine McGill, 68, formerly of 134 Boxwood Court, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1996, in McCallen, Texas, following several months of declining health.
Born Dec. 25, 1927, in Danville, she was a daughter of Floyd McDowell and Mary Dove McDowell.
On Nov. 20, 1953, she was married
to Odell McGill, who predeceased her.
She spent her entire life in Danville, before moving to McCallen, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of College Park Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Vickie M. Dickey of McCallen, Texas; and a brother, Floyd "Bud" McDowell of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Rosa Marie Scott, 50, 816 Betts St., died Saturday, Aug. 31, 1996, in her residence.
Born June 22, 1946, in Danville, she was a daughter of Frank Kitrell and Cora Lee James, who survives.
She was married
to Bevline Fred Scott Sr., who survives.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Pacific Bell Telephone Co. in Los Angeles.
In addition to her mother and her husband, survivors include two sons, Bevline Fred Scott Jr. and Michael James, both of Los Angeles; and a brother, Garry James of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday from Shiloh Baptist Church by the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Emma Irene Shaffer, 66, 788 Mount Cross Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1996, in her residence following a lengthy illness.
Born March 19, 1930, in Elgood, W.Va., she was a daughter of Jack E. Lester and Elsie Croy Lester.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra Smith of Danville; a brother, Everette Lester of Princeton, W.Va.; and a sister, Ida Eames of Rocky Mount.
She was predeceased by her husband, Homer Shaffer, two brothers, Boyd Lester and Billy Lester, and by a sister, Mary Shultz.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday from Faith Baptist Church in Kellysville, W.Va., by the Rev. Herman Smith. Burial will be in Hill cemetery.
