Jesse Blackstock
RINGGOLD - Jesse Clifton Blackstock, 68, 9396 Kentuck Road, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 1996, in his residence.
Born June 20, 1928, in Halifax County, he was a son of Jesse H. Blackstock and Beatrice B. Blackstock.
He was a member of Melville Avenue Baptist Church in Danville. He also served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Blackstock of Danville; a son, Michael Blackstock of Danville; two sisters, Mary B. Henderson of South Boston and Doris B. Everhart of Altavista; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Powell Funeral Home Chapel in South Boston by the Rev. Daryl Joyce and Calvin Blackstock. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Henderson, 1112 Fox Trail, South Boston.
Clyde Green
Clyde Alfred Green, 79, 2524 Beechwood Lane, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following eight months of declining health.
Born Jan. 23, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Mal Green and Ruth Haley Green.
On July 2, 1949, he was married
to Marion Weatherford Green, who survives.
He spent his life in the Danville area. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Dan River Inc. as an electrician for 45 years.
He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Poquoson Tribe 124 of the Red Men and a life-time member of the Westover Hills Fire Department.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 325.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Gerald Wayne Green of Dry Fork; four brothers, Sam Green of Danville, Russell Green of Baltimore, Earl Green of Brosville and Harold Green of Pelham, N.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Green; and by four brothers, Malvin Green, Paul Green, Bernard Green and Richard Green.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Fletcher Hardy and the Rev. Richard McDowell. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Richard Ramsey
GRETNA - Richard Crawford Ramsey, 56, 104 Leftwich St., died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, in Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born Jan. 11, 1940, in Charlottesville, he was a son of Edmond Fitzgerald Ramsey and Ewell Crawford Ramsey.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Pittsylvania County Schools as a teacher.
For 15 years, he was a member of Gretna Town Council. He was also a member of the Gretna Town Planning Commission and a member of the board of directors of the Pittsylvania County Red Cross. He was also past president of the Gretna Jaycees.
He was a graduate of Randolph Macon College in Ashland. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include three aunts, Sue Ramsey Aylor of Lynchburg, Ramsey McCartney of Asheboro, N.C., and Rebecca Ramsey Forsyth of Lajolla, Calif.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Trinity Episcopal Church by the Rev. John Ruef. Interment will be in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Shirley Rider
Shirley Elinor Rider, formerly of 125 Kenilworth Ave., died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, in Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born May 2, 1917, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of Joseph Sanford Rider and Lottie Wright Rider.
She attended Florence and Sumter public schools and was a graduate of Anderson College.
She had been a resident of Danville since 1948, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Fort Hill Memory Park by the Rev. Jack Heinsohn.

Virgie Graves
Virgie Walker Graves, 86, of 156 Forestdale Drive, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for several months and was a patient in the hospital for a month.
Born July 2, 1910 in Union City, Tenn., she was a daughter of Paris Walker and Francy Keck Walker.
She was a member of Washington Pike Methodist Church.
Most of her life was lived in Knoxville, Tenn., before moving to Danville in 1985.
She was retired from the Palm Beach Co. in Knoxville where she worked as a seamstress.
On Oct. 30, 1925, she married
Walter Edgar Graves. He died April 29, 1985.
Survivors include one son, Walter Edgar Graves Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Virginia G. DeBoe of Danville; one sister, Billie W. Lipps of Knoxville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 149 Millerton Road.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home by the Rev. Joe Beck and the Rev. Dr. James Gardner.
In Knoxville, there will be a visitation Tuesday at Mynatt Funeral Home from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. James Dougherty at Lynnhurst cemetery in Knoxville.
Mary Hoke
Mary Esther Rakes Hoke, 83, formerly of 121 Brookview Road, died Saturday, August 17, 1996, at the Moses Cone Extended Care facility in Greensboro, N.C.
Born April 20, 1913, she was a daughter of Abraham Rakes and Sallie Brogan Rakes.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Conrad Hoke, who died Dec. 9, 1992.
She had spent most of her life in Danville, and resided in Greensboro since October 1992.
She spent her early life in Martinsville. She worked as a salesperson and buyer for stores in Martinsville, Statesville, N.C., and San Francisco.
She was also employed by Rippe's as a salesperson and buyer.
She was a member of Rivermont Baptist Church where she taught Bible school and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union.
Survivors include one daughter, Sally Hoke Pearson Copeland of Greensboro; two step-daughters Phyllis Hoke Hill of Greensboro and Joan Hoke Mann of Danville; two sisters, Margaret Burry of La Quinta, Calif., and Rachel Hager of Lynchburg; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Rivermont Baptist Church by the Rev. Jack Waddell. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Randy C. Rigney
CHATHAM - Randoffie "Randy" Croffie Rigney, 76, 212 Calvary Road, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 1996, in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Dec. 26, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Dan Rigney and Ella Oakes Rigney.
He was a member of Museville Christian Church.
He was retired from Gregory Sawmill.
He served in the 349th Infantry Regiment, 88th Division in Italy during World War II.
He was married
to Nannie Adkins Rigney, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, James Rigney and Rodney Rigney, both of Chatham; two daughters, Betty R. Neal of Dry Fork and Peggy R. Kindy of Gentry, Ark.; one brother, John Rigney of Glen Burnie, Md.; one sister, Hallie R. Hanks of Glen Burnie; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday from Scott Funeral Home chapel by Minister J.D. Hunt III and Minister Steve Hayes. Interment, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 325 honor guard, will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Willie Wentz
Willie Sanford Wentz, of 628 Park Ave., died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996 at the home of her daughter in Norristown, Pa.
Born June 29, 1902, in Hamilton, Texas, she was a daughter of Willie Sanford and Mattie Wesley Sanford Hamlin.
She had lived most of her life in Danville. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
She was married
to Ira C. Wentz, who died June 21, 1980.
She was predeceased by two son, James Ira Wentz, who died June 21, 1959, and Billy S. Wentz, who died April 19, 1929.
Survivors include one son, Jerry E. Wentz Sr. of Danville; one daughter, Nancy Wentz Hundley of Norristown, Pa.; one sister, Eva Hamlin of Dobson, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday at Townes Funeral Home in by the Rev. Larry Edmonds. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Jerry Wentz Sr., 145 Wentz Circle.
Raymond Woods
LYNCHBURG - Raymond Woods, 62, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
He was a son of Silas and Bessie Woods. He was married
to Esther Perkins Woods.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Manya Faye Woods and a sister, Elsie Faye Woods Smith.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, LaTanya Woods of Lynchburg; two sons, Jackie Ray Woods of Lynchburg and Freddie Woods of Bedford; six brothers, J.L. Woods of Danville, Clifford Woods of Monroe, James Woods of Allwood, Ralph Woods of Madison Heights, Roger Woods and Glen Woods, both of Evington; five sisters, Doris Woods and Peggy Harris, both of Lynchburg, Patsy Hylton and Doris Stanley, both of Danville and Gilda Campbell of Monroe; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in Meade cemetery by the Rev. Carlton Duck.
The family will be at the residence of Peggy and Gerald Harris, Route 2, Box 281, Lawyers Road, Lynchburg.

Mabel Landrum
VERNON HILL - Mabel Owen Landrum, 90, of 1049 Landrum Trail, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 1996, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1906, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of John Owen and Cora Meeler Owen.
She was married
to Joseph "Joe" Kent Landrum, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Ingram United Church of Christ.
Survivors include one sister, Odell O. Henry of Vernon Hill.
The graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemtery by the Rev. Collie Seymour and the Rev. Robert Randolph.

Delphine Adkins
Delphine Hairston Adkins, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 1996.
Born Dec. 11, 1919, in Cascade, she was a daughter of Joe Riley and Nancy Tate Hairston.
She was married
to Jim Henry Adkins, who survives.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Reynolds Cobbs, 13 brothers, and one sister.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four daughters, Cecelia Adkins Childress, Annie Bea Gray, Shirley Adkins Neal, and Brenda Ibarra Davis; two sons, the Rev. Joe Henry Adkins and Michael J. Hairston; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at Bibleway Church in Roanoke. The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
