SEAMSTER
Fletcher L. Seamster, 74, of Richmond, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn S. Wells; son, Robert Lewis Seamster Sr.; brothers, Jesse, Raymond and Roy Seamster; grandchildren, Joann Walsh, Robert Lewis Seamster Jr. and Chris Hall. Mr. Seamster was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII and was retired from General Motors Auto Parts division after more than 30 years of service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
SHANNON
Evie Flannery Shannon, who was born November 21, 1903, died on January 30, 2002. She was the widow of Dr. Howell Franklin Shannon. Mrs. Shannon was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a former member of The Woman's Club, the Tuckahoe Woman's Club and the Country Club of Virginia. She served on the board of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Richmond Dental Society. Mrs. Shannon is survived by her children, Richard E. Shannon, Mrs. Charles L. Blair and Dr. David G. Shannon; her sister, Janie E. Flannery; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her eldest son, Howell F. Shannon Jr., preceded her in death. A private funeral service will be held Friday.

Roland Wythe Taylor, age 79, passed away January 28, 2002 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Martin Taylor; one daughter, Susan Taylor Ford; three granddaughters, Meaghan, Ashley and Lindsay Ford; one niece, Carolyn D. Jones. Mr. Taylor retired as Classified Advertising Manager for Richmond Newspapers, Inc. He was a Past Master and a 50-year member of Joppa Lodge No. 40 A.F.&A.M. and Past Potentate and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Acca Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (today) at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Freddie C. Thompson, 87, of Richmond, died Thursday, January 24, 2002. He is survived by her daughter, Fredi Walker-Jagiello of Brockton, Mass.; one son, Ottye Thompson of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Ernestine Hennessey of Andrews, S.C., and Myrtle Roland of Stanford, Conn.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, February 1, at the Holy Trinity Church, 1826 N. 30th St., followed by a service. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Leo "Dutch" Vollenweider, 79, loving husband and father, went to be with the Lord January 29, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter, Theresa; son-in-law, Darrell Sims; sister, Inez Tauzin of New Orleans; and many loving family members. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and the Korean War. He was a Past Department Vice-Commander of Virginia for the American Legion, Commander of Lakeside Post No. 125 and a past Chef DeGar for the 40 and 8. He graduated in 1957 from VCU and was a U.S. Customs inspector. He volunteered with the Atlee High School football program. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Johnson Winfield, 93, formerly of Petersburg, died January 29, 2002 in Lakewood Manor, Richmond. Mrs. Winfield was born in Goochland County, a daughter of the late Aubrey Francis and Kate Laughton Johnson. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va. Preceded in death by her husband, Gordon T. Winfield and granddaughter, Catherine Reinen Niederberger; she is survived by her children, Gordon T. Winfield Jr. and his wife, Bruce S. of Lancaster, Barbara W. Reinen of La Canada, Calif., Carol W. Eliot and her husband, Frank C. of Bethesda, Md., Ann W. James M. "Big Jim" Wren, 73, of Mechanicsville, a native of Little Rock, Ark., died Monday, January 28, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Marylou Mason Wren; two daughters, Jennifer Newcomb and her husband, Dennis and Katy Cutchins and her husband, David; three grandchildren, Bryan and Jessi Newcomb and Hope Cutchins, all of Mechanicsville. He was preceded in death by three sons, David, Steven and Jeffrey Wren. Mr. Wren was a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of Northwestern University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was also a member of the National Association of Accountants. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Cool Spring Baptist Church. Ruby Lee Ashing, 77, of Richmond, the widow of Darrel Wayne Ashing Sr., died April 25, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Lee Harrison and her husband, William H. Joyce M. Bailey, age 67 of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on April 25, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Vincent J. Bailey; her three children, V. Lee Bailey, Kevin M.
