Lewis Parr Armstrong, D.D.S., 49, of Culpeper died suddenly January 9, 2003. He was born January 21, 1953 in Richmond to Dr. Thomas Weedon Armstrong, Jr. and Lucille Lewis Armstrong. Lewis was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Richmond where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and served on the Honor Council. He graduated from the Medical College of Virginia Dental School in 1978. He joined the dental practice of his father after graduation and practiced with him for ten years. At that time his father retired and he took over his father's practice. He continued to practice dentistry until the time of his death. Lewis was an active member and Elder of the Culpeper Presbyterian Church. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Culpeper for 18 years and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served on the board of Second Bank & Trust for many years, and he was past chairman of the Culpeper chapter of the American Cancer Society. In addition to his parents, Lewis is survived by his wife, Mollie Moore Armstrong, and two sons, Kenneth Weber Armstrong and Bradley Parr Armstrong. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Weedon Armstrong III and his wife, Marie, his sisters, Maryan Armstrong Kearney and her husband, Timothy, and Elizabeth Armstrong Spencer and her husband, Dave, a niece and six nephews. Lewis is preceded in death by his first wife, Kyle Lovett Armstrong. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 12, 2003 from 6 - 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike. A memorial service will held Monday, January 13, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Culpeper Baptist Church with The Dr. R. Wayne Bernardo officiating. Family burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Culpeper Prebyterian Church Building fund, 215 S. Janet Elizabeth Woodard, 43, died January 11, 2003. She was born September 19, 1959 to the late Rudolph Alvin Woodward and Mary Ethel Woodward. Mrs. Woodard was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband William L. Woodard of Culpeper, two sons, Mathew Travis Burns and William Jesse Woodard both of Culpeper. Additional survivors inclue two sisters, Sharon O'Neill of Amissiville, Va., Sandra Madison of Sperryville, Va., two brothers, Rudoph F. Woodward of Fredericksburg, Va., and Robert Woodward of Orange, Va.. Douglas E. Synan, 82 of Falmouth, died Friday April 5, 2002 at Mary Washington Hospital. He worked as a barbour for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife Lena Mills Synan; two daughters, Norma J. Synan, Sharon R. Synan both of Fairfax; two sons, Ronald E. Synan of Baker City, Oregon, Nathan W. Synan of Stafford; two sisters, Edith K. Synan of Spotsylvania, Arbutus Price of Fredericksburg; five brothers, Clifton A. Synan, Albert M. Synan both of Spotsylvania, Robert L. Synan of Tennessee, Stanley M. Synan of Stafford, Howard Q. Synan of Oregon, two grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, Fredericksburg, Monday April 8, 2002 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Joseph Hill Atkins, 77, of Sperryville, died Saturday, May 18, 2002 at his residence. He was born December 31, 1924 in Sperryville to the late Jackson Atkins and Treva Clater Atkins. He is survived by his wife of thirty six years, Mary Catherine Jenkins Atkins. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 20, 2002 at 2 pm at Sperryville cemetery with the Rev. John K. Mrs. Rebecca Green Worrell, a long-term volunteer in the Stafford Unit of the American Cancer Society, died Wednesday, September 11, 2002. Mrs. Worrell was a resident of the Brooke area of Stafford, where she and her husband, retired Colonel Edgar V. Worrell, were active members of the community and Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. & Mrs. Worrell were married
for almost seventy years when Colonel Worrell passed away at the age of 96. Becky had been in training to be a nurse when she met and married
Ed Worrell. During their military years, they lived in many interesting places, including Berlin, Germany, where Becky was actively involved as Ed's helpmate as he served as Chief Quartermaster for the Army in West Berlin. When Ed retired and became a Methodist minister for the Accotink - Silver Brooke churches in Lorton, Becky was at his side, lovingly doing God's work. She always thought of the other person first, never herself. Becky was a natural caregiver, a woman of great courage and noble spirit. In 1987 she was the recipient of the Division/ Unit Volunteer Award, presented by the American Cancer Society, Virginia Division, in recognition of her outstanding long-term work in the Stafford Unit. Her work in the ACS began prior to 1978 when she was made an honorary member of the Unit. Survivors include her two daughters, Anna Louise Worrell Anderson of Albuquerque, NM, and Nancy Sue Worrell Woods of Stafford; a brother, LeRoy D. Green of Denver, CO; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 7, 2002 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels of Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at 9:30 am at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lou Ann Frederick officiating. Elmer Henn, 82 of Spotsylvania, died Friday, March 29, 2002 at Mary Washington Hospital. An Army veteran of WWII, he worked as a painter for the Smithsonian Institute for 18 years. He is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Catherine Henn. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Joseph Conrad Butler
Joseph Conrad Butler, 49, of Midland, Va., died on August 12, 2003, at Fauquier Hospital.
He was born on July 30, 1954 in Warrenton, Va.
Survivors include his parents, Frank Conrad Butler and Catherine Short Butler of Culpeper, Va.; one son, Robert Conrad Butler of Culpeper, Va.; fiancee’ of Joseph, Cheryl Costello of Midland, Va.

Kitty Elizabeth Jenkins Hitt
Kitty Elizabeth Jenkins Hitt, 67, of Culpeper, loving wife of the late Taylor Hitt, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at Culpeper Regional Hospital. She was born November 11, 1935 in Culpeper to the late Columbus “Lum” Washington Jenkins and Ada Florence Jenkins.
Mrs. Hitt was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Donald Hitt, a daughter, Jackie Settle and her husband, William, three grandchildren, Jason Settle and his wife, Amanda, W.T. Settle and Brad Settle, and one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Settle all of Culpeper.
She is also survived by a sister, Edna Wood of Stanardsville and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Hitt was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Woodward and a brother, Frank Jenkins.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 16, at 2 p.m. at Fairview cemetery with Rev. Ray Berry officiating.

Charles Augustus Wood
Charles Augustus Wood, 76, of Boston, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born October 26, 1926 in Washington, D.C. to the late Sydney Archer Wood and Edna Elizabeth Boger Wood.
Mr. Wood was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Wood was a lifetime member and present commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2524, and past member of the honor guard. He was a member of the Rappahannock Lions Club and a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. He was formerly employed with the Rappahannock Co-op and currently employed with the Oasis CD Duplication.
Mr. Wood is survived by two daughters, Gail B. Filyo of California, MD and Peggy M. Wood of Gaithersburg, MD, and one son, Charles A. Wood, Jr. of Laurel, MD.
Additional survivors include one grandson, Stephen Filyo, Jr., six great-grandchildren, Stephen Christopher Filyo, Jackson Nicholas Filyo and Ryan Alexander Filyo and Warren and Megan Fogitt and Danielle Gardiner, and one brother, Sydney Archer of Georgia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet S. Wood and one sister, Dorothy Harty.
The family will receive friends this evening from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Pastor Debbie Frye officiating.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National cemetery with honors provided by the Culpeper American Legion Post #330 and the Culpeper V.F.W. Post #2524.

Theodore Nicholas Kaliveas, Jr., 59, of Mineral, Va., died at his home August 7, 2003, after a brief illness.
