Darnell S. Lewis, 42, of Manassas died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Reston Hospital Center. He was born on July 27, 1960 in Washington, D.C. to Reginald Hemsley and Rosa Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was employed by the Transit Authority for 12 years In addition to his parents Mr. Lewis is survived by his daughter, Robin Lewis of Manassas, his son, Brandon Lewis of Georgia, his stepfather, Authur Lewis, a sister, Carwithian Hemsley and four half-brothers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Richard E. Garner from Rising Zion Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Culpeper National cemetery. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is in charge of the arrangements.

Lorelle Brown Crane, 92, of Culpeper, died Sunday, April 7, 2002 at her Winchester residence. She was born November 18, 1909 in Orange County to the late Edward and Laura Brown. Mrs. Crane is survived by three sons, James W. Crane, Jr., of College Park, MD, Charles E. Crane, of Delray Beach, FL, and Harry L. Crane, of Boyton Beach, FL, and two daughters, Betty Ann Crane, of Charlottesville, and Barbara Jean Craig, of Warrenton. Mrs. Crane is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James William Crane, Sr. and a son, Bernard L. Crane. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. John Crawford, III and Rev. Julian H. Martin, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell United Methodist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is in charge of the arrangements.

Kathryn Anne Jennings, 58, of Culpeper died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at her residence. She was born March 23, 1944 in Richmond to the late Samuel Paul Hamaker and Mrs. Virginia Siddons of Cheasapeake, Virginia. Besides her mother, she is survived by her step father, James Siddons of Cheasapeake, Virginia; four children, Deborah Holton and her husband Scott of Cental City, Iowa; Shawn Jennings and his wife Doris of Orange; Misty Jennings and her companion, Samuel Smith of Stevensburg; Heather Jennings and her husband, Bradley Menefee of Culpeper; and a special companion, Jesse James Banks of Culpeper She is also survived by her grandchildren, Porsche and Brittany Jennings, Jack Holton and Lindsay Gardner; two brothers, Samuel "Sonny" Paul Hamaker and his wife, Jerry and William "Bill" Hamaker and his wife Ann; and one sister Susanne Fuller and a very special friend, Gloria Stanton. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 30, at 11:00 am at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. Michael Grey officiating. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Hospice of the Rapidan, P. O. Box 1715, Culpeper, VA 22701. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Carrie Shelton, 94 of Fredericksburg, died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Beverly Health Care Center. She loved to work in the garden. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Mills of Fredericksburg; a son Lloyd Shelton of Stafford; a granddaughter, and a great-granddaughter. A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at 9:00 am, Rev. J. Larry Haun officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Fredericksburg/ Spotsylvania Unit, c/o Trudy Clifton, 113 Tall Pines Avenue, Locust Grove, Virginia 22508; or the American Heart Association10415 Mountain Run Lake Road, Culpeper, Virginia 22701. Mr. Dean Leroy Whitney, Sr., 67 of Spotsylvania, retired deputy sheriff for Spotsylvania County, died Thursday, April 18, 2002 at his home. Dean enjoyed collecting, hunting, fishing, boating, target shooting and was a fanatical NASCAR fan. He was a member of the Fredericksburg Local Fraternal Order of Police, the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Colts Collectors Association, the Dale Ernhart Inc. and was one of the first Spotsylvania County Deputies to present the D.A.R.E. program to many school children. He is survived by a daughter; Teresa Apperson of Spotsylvania, two sisters; J. Louise Whitney of Toledo Ohio, Elaine Meadows of North Hamptonshire England, a brother; Earl G. Whitney of Toledo Ohio, five grandchildren and one great grand-daughter. He was preceded in death by his son Dean L. Whitney, Jr. The family will receive friends at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels, Fredericksburg on Wednesday April 24, 2002 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. A funeral service will be held at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel on Thursday April 25, 2002 at 2:00pm with the Rev. John Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in his name to the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Department "DARE" program, P.O. Box 124, Spotsylvania, VA 22553 or to the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 101 Spotsylvania, VA 22553. Alice Minerva Leake, 74, of Timmonsville, South Carolina died early Tuesday morning, December 3, 2002, at Carolina Hospital, in Florence, SC after an illness. She was born May 22, 1928 in Clear Creek, VA to the late William and Julia Osborne Minnix. Mrs. Leake was a homemaker. Formerly of Culpeper, she had been a resident of Florence County, South Carolina since 1971. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fred Leake. Surviving are three sons, James Fred Leake, Jr. and his wife, Mary of Lamar, SC, Phillip Leake and his wife, Detra and David Leake and his wife, Mandy all of Florence, SC, one daughter, Alice McElveen and her husband, Gene of Florence, SC and two sisters, Mildred Fields of Big Stone Gap, VA and Peggy Hodges of Florida. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, Rusty Leake, Angie Leake, Jamie Leake and Jonathan Leake all of Culpeper, Shane Leake and Whitney Leake both of Florence, SC and Stacey Guillen of Richmond and two great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 5, at 2 p.m. at Fairview cemetery with Pastor Charles Shifflett officiating. Zachary David Fuller "Zach", 10, of Spotsylvania County died on Sunday, May 19, 2002 in an airplane accident along with his 24-year-old sister, Jessica Marie Fuller Dietz "Sissy". Zachary attended Grace Memorial Church where he was also a member of the AWANA Youth Group. He was also an honor roll student in the 4th grade at Courthouse Road Elementary School. He is survived by his parents, Kevin and Peggy Fuller of Spotsylvania; his maternal grandparents, Howard and Cynthia Kendrick of Nathalie, VA and his paternal grandparents, Richard and Mercedes Fuller of Burlington, NC. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg from 6:00-8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel at 4:00 pm with the Rev. Harlan E. White officiating. Burial will be private. Lyle Wilson Atkins, 84, of Sperryville died Thursday, October 17, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. He was born October 1, 1918 in Sperryville to the late Joseph B. Atkins and Elizabeth Atkins. Mr. Atkins was a devoted father to his seven children. He was a member of Beech Spring Regular Baptist Church. Mr. Atkins is survived by four daughters, Barbara A. Gore and her husband, Eddie both of Sperryville, Betty A. Myers and her husband, Larry both of Elkwood, Becky Tuel and her husband, Allen both of Culpeper and Brenda Sacco of Luray, and two sons, Melvin Lyle Atkins and his wife, Juanita and Calvin Joseph Atkins and his wife, Nancy all of Sperryville. Additional survivors include six granddaughters, Tammy Shenk of Luray, Robin Atkins, Heather Keyser, Angela Hitt and Kelly Atkins all of Sperryville and Mandy Tuel of Culpeper, two grandsons, Keith E. Gore of Warrenton and Ray Atkins of Sperryville, and two great grandsons, Nicholas Hitt and Corey Shenk, and one great granddaughter, Danielle Shenk. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Marie Atkins, Lee Anna Wharton and Judy Atkins all of Sperryville and Lou Atkins of Luray, and two brothers-in-law, Wilson Atkins of Sperryville and James Atkins of Luray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Christina Atkins, one son, Shelby George Atkins, two brothers, Alvin and Joseph Atkins and one sister, Pearl Dodson. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 21, at 11 a.m. at Beech Spring Regular Baptist Church, located 2 miles west of Sperryville on Route 211 Lee Highway. Rev. Jon C. Heddleston and Elder Wayne Richards will be officiating. Interment will follow in Sperryville cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Gore, Ray Atkins, Marshall Dodson, Dean Atkins, Wilson Atkins, J.T. Atkins, Steven Sabol and Josh Hitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Martin, Marshall Atkins, Elmer Atkins, Jimmy Swindler and Cecil Atkins. Jamar LaMonta Clanagan, Jr., 1-month-old infant son of Jamar LaMonta Clanagan, Sr. and Latisha Williams died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born June 24, 2002, in Culpeper. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Jazmin Williams of Culpeper, paternal grandparents, Theresa Clanagan of Culpeper and Frederick Holmes of True Blue, maternal grandparents, Georgia Harris and Leonard Williams both of Washington, DC, step maternal grandfather, John Booker of Washington, DC, and step paternal grandfather, Robert Long of Culpeper. He is also survived by his paternal great grandparents, Annie and Robbie Clanagan both of Rapidan and Corena Holmes of True Blue, maternal great grandparents, Mable Summers of Oxon Hill, MD and Yvonne Diggs of Washington, DC, and his godmother, Irma Butler of Warrenton. Additional survivors include a host of aunts, uncles, and other family and friends. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at Fairview cemetery with Rev. Loretta Cecelia Burke, 100 of Stafford, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Mary Washington Hospital. Previously of Long Island, New York, she has been a resident of Stafford for the past seven years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard John Burke and her daughter Mary Winnifred Holdorf. She is survived by her son Robert J. Burke of Stafford, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Found and Sons Fredericksburg chapel on Thursday, May 23, 2002 at 1:00 pm. Father Michael Duesterhaus officiating. Interment will be private. Leif Arthur Berglund, 72 of Waldorf, MD formerly of King George, VA and Churchton, MD died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at Virginia Hospital Center of Arlington. Born in Ketchikan, Alaska, he was raised in Olso, Norway until he returned to the U.S. in the late 40's. He joined the USAF in 1951 and retired in 1971. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Ruth M. Berglund. He is survived by two daughters, Lise M. Berglund-Cool of Waldorf, MD and Ingrid M. Berglund-Melling of Ellijay, GA; a son-in-law, Christopher R. Melling of Ellijay, GA; two granddaughters, Beverly M. B. Wilburn of Waldorf, MD and Andrea M. Hartge of Churchton, MD and two great grandchildren, Hanne E. B. Wilburn and Haeden L. B. Wilburn of Waldorf, MD. A private graveside service will be held at Arlington National cemetery.
