Mrs. Anna Barbara Guokas, 98 of Falmouth, died Friday, March 29, 2002 at Mary Washington Hospital. She is survived by two daughters, Stella A. Jones of Falmouth, and Ellen Jennings of Highland, California; three grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Found and Sons Fredericksburg Chapel on Thursday, April 4, 2002 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday, April 5, 2002 at 10:00 am, Father Stefan Starzynski officiating, interment will take place at Mt. Annie Lee McPeak, 85, of Culpeper, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. She was born March 23, 1917, in Hiwassee, Virginia, to the late Robert and Mary Felts. Mrs. McPeak is survived by three daughters, Catherine Hoffman and her husband, Charles, Maudie Dodson and her husband, Wilson, and Linda "Sluefoot" Sue McPeak, all of Culpeper. She is also survived by three sons, David H. "Her Boy" McPeak, Haven S. McPeak and his wife, Barbara, all of Culpeper, and Ellis D. McPeak and his wife, Linda, of Reva. Additional survivors include twenty-three grand children, forty-seven great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, by whom she was and is dearly loved. She is also survived by a dear friend, Pastor Charles Shifflett, and many other friends who loved her. Mrs. McPeak was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. McPeak, a son Otha Leroy McPeak, a great-grandson, Chester McPeak, Jr., and a great-granddaughter, Hayley Lynn Brown. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 22, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Found and Sons chapel with Pastor Charles Shifflett officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Hoffman, Clinton Cubbage, Chester McPeak, Jason Jenkins, Danny McPeak, and Jerry Cubbage. Lillie Virginia Whorton Deal, 83, of Culpeper went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 21, 2002 at the Countryside Home for Adults in Pratts, Virginia. She was born April 11, 1919, in Rappahannock County to the late Biedler and Virgie Campbell Whorton. Mrs. Deal was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was an active volunteer at the Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a care giver for many years and was a past employee at Blue Bell Jean Company in Madison. Mrs. Deal was a very thoughtful and loving person. She never met someone whom she didn't like. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Deal is survived by three children, Barbara Deal Ellington and her husband Randy of Culpeper; Linda Deal Broyles and her husband Bobby of Culpeper and Ernest Gibbs Deal of Amissville. Additonal survivers include her grandchildren, Peggy Sue Deal Durrette, and her husband Anthony Glenn, of Richmond, VA, Lee Anne Deal Jury and her husband Matthew, of Harrisburg, PA, Valerie Ellington Mills and her husband Rodney, of Culpeper, VA, Marty Ellington and his fiance Sara Aukenthaler, of Madison, Angie Ellington Woodward and her husband Michael, of Madison, VA, Jamie Lynne Broyles of Culpeper, VA, Kristina Dolan Broyles of Culpeper, VA, Justin Andrew Deal, Brandon Trent Deal both of Amissville and Phillip Ryan Deal of Remington and three great grandchildren, Andrew Glenn Durrette, Michael Anthony Durrette and Hope Elisabeth Jury. She is also survived by a host of siblings. Mrs. Deal was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Lee "Doodle" Deal Sr., one son Andrew Lee Deal, Jr., and several siblings. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 24 at 2 pm at Bethel Baptist Church in Reva, with Rev. Kenneth F. Huneycutt officiating. Interment will follow in Etlan cemetery. Frances Woodward Espinoza, 52, of Reva departed this life on Monday, April 22, 2002, at her residence with her loving family, after a long battle with cancer. She was born August 3, 1949 in Charlottesville to the late William Jackson and Frances Byrd Woodward. She was employed by the Fairfax County School System for 30years until her illness. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Cesar Espinoza of Reva, a devoted son, Justin Jenkins and his wife, Patty of Boston, a daughter, Jacenta Jenkins and Pete of Wolftown, two step children, Cesar Espinoza, Jr. and Sylvia Guillen both of Los Angelas, CA, one precious grandchild, Jaesha Cook of Wolftown, four step-grandchildren, Kenny, Malisha, Tabetha and Penny Skipper, and seven step-great grandchildren. Additional survivors include one sister, Beverly Menefee of Culpeper, one brother, W. Wayne Woodward and his wife, Shelia of Alexandria, three nephews, Tony Lang, Darrell Lang and Sterling Woodward, one niece, Shelly Rhodes, great nieces and nephews, Christina, Jessica, Ashley, Jordon, Kendal, Kaden and Austin, also loving cousins, co-workers, a neighbor and a host of additional relatives and friends. The family would like to thank everyone for their acts of kindness during this very difficult time. Retha V. Jones, 68 of Mineral, died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at her home. She was a schoolteacher for Stafford County Public Schools for over twenty-five years and was a member of the Virginia Education Association. She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Ronald Jones; two daughters Donna Cherry of Spotsylvania, and Jeanie Stallard of Stafford; a son Kenneth Jones of Leesburg; two sisters, Elva Wright of Spotsylvania, and Thelma Hinkle of Caroline County; three brothers Ellis Adair of Fredericksburg, Edward Adair of Flager Beach, Florida, and Ezra Adair of Rocky Gap; and five grandchildren. Virginia K. Spruill, 71 of Stafford died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at her home. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she loved sewing, crafts, her grandchildren and country music. She is survived by her husband of 30 years Arthur "Cap" Spruill; four daughters, Alice Martin of Manassas, Deborah Burrell of York, South Carolina, Brenda Darland and Raye Luck both of Stafford; four sons William W. Curtis, Jr. of Alabama, Roy Curtis of Bristol, Kevin and Larry Curtis, both of Stafford; a sister Bonnie Ludwig of Maryland; three brothers, Kenneth Grimes of Alexandria, Robert Kitts of Stafford, and John Kitts of Spotsylvania; fifteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Benjamin "Ben" Gautreaux, 55 of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at Mary Washington Hospital. He served in the Naval Reserves for six years, and was a Systems Engineer with Unisys Corporation. He is survived by his wife Barbara A. Gautreaux; four daughters Christine M. Tate of Stafford, Monique Y. Gautreaux of Ruther Glen, Sandra L. Lafley of Stafford, and Vera Renee' of the home; a son Michael A. Gautreaux of Stafford; a sister Doris Baggett of Norfolk; two brothers, Lawrence Emile Gautreaux, Jr. of Malta, and Paul Gautreaux of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Found and Sons Fredericksburg Chapel on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at 3:00 pm with the Rev. James Carrington officiating. Virginia Thompson Hill, 88, of Stevensburg died Friday, April 5, 2002, at her residence. She was born September 21, 1913 in Wellsbridge, New York to the late Rev. William Mayfield Thompson and Marguerite Mae Daniel Thompson. Mrs. Hill graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in 1933. Throughout her adult life she was active professionally both as an educator and musician, while at the same time she was busily engaged as a homemaker. Before her marriage in 1940, she taught English and Music in Amherst County, VA and in Alexandria, VA. Later taught English, Forensics, and Drama at Culpeper County High School, VA. She taught a total of 27 years. Mrs. Hill was an accomplished musician and pianist at the church at which her father was minister in Petersburg at the age of 15. Later she was Minister of Music at the Culpeper Baptist Church where she planned the music for worship service, directed several choirs, and played the organ. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Stevensburg Home Demonstration Club and the American Association of University Women. She loved reading, especially history and literature. "Mother of the Year" for Culpeper County in 1954, by the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was then described as "a capable housewife and dutiful mother." Survivors include five children, Lee Hill Andrews of England, Anne Hill Schreiner and her husband, Clyde Mathias Schreiner both of Largo, FL, Jean Sanford Hill of Claremont, CA, John Sanford Hill, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Cole Hill both of Wichita Falls, TX and William Ward Hill and his wife, Lynne Elaine Hill both of Madison. Additional survivors include fourteen grandchildren, Daniel Patrick Andrews of Columbia, SC, Kurt Edwin Schreiner of St. Petersburg, FL, John Michael Schreiner of Pembroke Pines, FL, Paul Richard Schreiner of St. Petersburg, FL, Mary Kathryn Valdez of Miami, FL, Randolph Harrison Watts, Jr. of Chapel Hill, NC, Julia Harrison Watts of Maitland, FL, Stephanie Lynne Drury of Seattle, WA, Jennifer Kristin Hill and John Sanford Hill, III both of Denton, TX, Benjamin Ward Hill, Rebecca Lynne Hill, William Cary Hill and Peter Lee Hill all of Madison, and two great grandchildren, Judah Crutial Drury of Seattle, WA and Jonathan Hill Schreiner of St. Petersburg, FL. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Sanford Hill, two grandchildren, David Wayne Andrews, Jr. and Susan Elizabeth Schreiner, and a son-in-law, James Whittier Lewis. Donald Ashton Shelton, 76 of Falmouth, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at Mary Washington Hospital. A native of Stafford County, he was a US Army veteran of WWII, and a member of Ramoth Baptist Church. Harold Edward "Kojak" Tuel, 79, of Leon, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at his residence. He was born May 26, 1922 in Culpeper County to the late Harry Lee Tuel and Anna Mildred Spicer Tuel. Kojak was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the Culpeper County Police Department and was currently employed at Prince Michel Vineyard and Omni Services Inc. as a security guard. Survivors include two daughters, Robena Mae Britton of Leon, and Lillian Carol Peel of Culpeper and one son, Tim Martin of Alexandria. Additional survivors include one brother, Gene Allen Tuel of Culpeper, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Tuel, one grandson, Anthony Shore, four brothers, William Tuel, Doc Tuel, James Tuel and Jimmy Tuel and one sister, Evelyn Tuel.
