Robert Andrew Smith, 60 of Culpeper, went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2002 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born on September 29, 1942 in Culpeper County to the late Andrew Smith and Eliza Jane Robson Smith. Mr. Smith worked for 35 years locally as a mechanic for Gilmores. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Edna Mae Smith, one son William R. Johnson of Culpeper, and one daughter, Julia A. Henderson and her husband Samuel, of Ruckersville. Mr. Smith is also survived by six grandchildren, including a special and devoted grandson Timothy L. Johnson, numerous great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Additional survivors include one brother, William Taylor Smith Sr. of Reva, and one sister Ashby Louise Tibbs, of Batna. Also, many other family, friends and loved ones. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 24, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. Interment will follow at Canaan Baptist Church cemetery. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is in charge of the arrangements.

George Burgess

George R. Burgess, 77 of Reva died Sunday, April 13, 2003 at his home. Mr. Burgess was born July 10, 1925 in Deale, MD to the late Oscar Bennett and Eva Etroy Knopp Burgess. Mr. Burgess was a veteran of the United States Navy and attended Deale United Methodist Church in Deale, MD. He was a family man who enjoyed his home and loved his family. George was known for caring for other peoples' needs before his own. Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margrette B. Burgess and six children; Shirley J. Mason and huband Ronald, Peggy L. Dodson and husband James L., Larry R. Burgess and wife Rosemary, Brenda K. Burgess, David W. Burgess and wife Diana and Sheila K. Brown and husband Glenn E.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Richie R., Chad L. and Laura R. Burgess, Carrie J. Mason, Timothy L. Dodson, Jeffrey O. and Lesha M. Brown, and one brother, Joseph Irvin Burgess. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Bennett Burgess. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth F. Huneycutt officiating. A private interment in the family cemetery will follow with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #330 and the V.F.W. Post #2524. Pallbearers named are Richie R., Chad L., Alvin B. and Charles L. Burgess, Timothy L. Dodson and Jeffrey O. Brown. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is handling the arrangements.

Opal Lyles

Opal Mae Lyles, 79, of Lignum died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at her residence. She was born March 1, 1924 in Kermit, West Virginia to the late Charlie Marcum and Lola Williams Marcum. Mrs. Lyles is survived by one daughter, Doreen Griffith of Richardsville and four sons, Charles K. Lyles of Tallahassee, FL, Robert G. Lyles of Orlanda, FL, Ricky L. Lyles of Culpeper and Gary M. Lyles of Miami, FL. Additional survivors include two brothers, Raymond Marcum of Manassas and Enoch Marcum of Bealeton and four sisters, Ida Belle Lyles of Culpeper, Columbia J. Parton of Culpeper, Stella A. Ward of Henderson, WV and Essie Woodward of Spotsylvania. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kenneth Lyles, Jr., one brother, Lonnie Marcum and one sister, Mary Garten. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 29, at 3 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses with Richard Schleuter officiating. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is in charge of the arrangements.

William Curtis

Mr. William W. Curtis "Bill" died Friday January 10, 2003 at Mary Washington Hospital. Bill was a wonderful husband, father and friend who gave testimony to God and a devoted servant of his church. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He worked many years for Lane Auto Parts and served in the US Army during WWII. He is survived by his wife; Jean Curtis; four children; three brothers; three sisters; three stepchildren; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Crossroads Baptist Church, 4236 Lee Hill School Dr., Spotsylvania on Monday, January 13, 2003 from 7:00 to9:00pm. A funeral will be held at the church on Tuesday, January 14, at 12:00pm with the Pastor's Tony Self, James Cunningham and David Powers officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in his name to Crossroads Baptist Church building fund, 4236 Lee Hill School Dr., Spotsylvania, VA 22408.

Nina Rachel Martin, 73, of Culpeper died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at her residence. She was born June 23, 1929 in Albemarle County to the late Floyd Melvin Painter and Anna Mary Judd Painter. Mrs. Martin was a member of Culpeper United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years, William Henry Martin of Culpeper, one sister, Anna Marie Jenkins and her husband, Robert L. Jenkins both of Culpeper, a sister-in-law, Edna Bolen Painter of Luray and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many other friends and loved ones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, William Henry Martin and two brothers, Raymond M. "Jack" Painter of Luray and Joseph O.L. Painter of Culpeper. A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 10, at 11 a.m. at Fairview cemetery with Rev. John Crawford, III officiating. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is handling the arrangements.

Margaret James

Margaret Ann James, 73, of Culpeper died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, in Charlottesville. She was born November 16, 1929 in Inlet to the late Kirby Smith Brown and Myrtle Noakes Brown. Mrs. James was a member of Culpeper Baptist Church. Mrs. James is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Julian Judson James, and two daughters, Connie F. James and Sharon Lynn James all of Culpeper and one sister, Sybil Louise Utz of Berkley, WV. She is also survived by a number of additional family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Randolph Noakes Brown. The family will receive friends Friday, April 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. John S. Farrar officiating. Interment will be held on Monday, April 14, at 1 p.m. at Culpeper National cemetery with Rev. John S. Farrar officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Culpeper Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 731, Culpeper, VA 22701 and/or the Salem Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 47, Boston, VA 22713. Francis Boggs

Mr. Francis Corrans Boggs, 73 of Spotsylvania died Thursday, January 16, 2003 at Mary Washington Hospital. Francis worked for over 24 years as a Game Warden for the Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries. Prior to that he had worked as a Chief Forest Warden in Spotsylvania County. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII as a navigator on B17's. He was a charter member and past Captain of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was a past member of the Chancellor Volunteer Fire Department, The Izaac Walton League where he taught hunter safety classes and the Partlow Ruritan Club. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley P. Boggs; a son Douglas P. Boggs and his wife, Kimberly Boggs of Spotsylvania; two brothers, Lewis A. Boggs and Joseph H. Boggs, Sr., both of Spotsylvania; a sister, Maude L. Boring of Williamsburg; two grandchildren, Katie M. Boggs and Meghan E. Boggs both of Spotsylvania and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg on Sunday, January 19, 2003 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. A funeral service will be held at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel on Monday, January 20, 2003 at 1:30 pm with the Rev. Jeffrey B. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Genevieve E. Perdereau, 81, of Boston, Virginia died on Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Warrenton Overlook Healthcare Center. Mdme. Perdereau was born in Paris, France, moved to Washington, DC in 1973, and to Brookhill Farm in the Boston area in 1987. She was preceded in death by her only child, Gerard Francois, and is survived by relatives in France, and her American friend, Thom Pellikaan. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Fr. Leo Zonneveld officiating. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is handling the arrangements.

Douglas Grant

Douglas M. Grant, 60, of Stevensburg died Thursday, January 9, 2003, at Virginia Hospital Center, in Arlington. He was born in Havre de race, Maryland to the late Donald and Alma Grant. Mr. Grant was a retired Government worker and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his three sons; William and his wife Rebecca, Peter, and Steven, and his three grandchildren, Phillip, Madalyn, and William. Mr. Grant is also survived by his two sisters, Patricia m. Taylor, and Donna Lynn Grant and one brother, Donald Grant. The family will receive friends from 7-9p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels Of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike. A Funeral Service will be held at 2p.m. on wednesday, January 15, 2003 at Found and Sons Chapel of Culpeper, with the Rev. Phillip Walker officiating. Interment will follow at the Culpeper National cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Culpeper American Legion Post 330, and V.F.W. Post 2524. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Franklin

Mrs. Shirley Ann Franklin, 66, of St. Augustine, FL, formerly of Fredericksburg, died on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at Grafton House Nursing Home. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Howard Franklin; two sons, James Franklin of Fairfax, VA and Charles Franklin of St. Augustine, FL; six brothers, Murl Adams, Frank Adams and Billy Adams, all of Virginia, Troy Adams of Florida, Bobby Adams of West Virginia and Clyde Adams of North Carolina; a sister, Marie Petrosino of Virginia and three grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg from 6:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 9, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel at 11:00 am with the Rev. David Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Comfort cemetery. Wooten of Fredericksburg; four sons, Virgil I. Wines, II of Martinsburg, NC and Carl W. Wines, Robert E. Wines and Paul D. Wines, all of Riedsville, NC; a brother, three sisters, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Wines. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 29, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg from 6:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Fairfax Memorial Park.
