Memorial services for Benjamin G. Burke "Bennie" will be held today at 2 p.m. at The Masonic cemetery in Washington, Va. Mr. Burke, 83, died on May 19, 2003, in Peoria, Ariz. after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers Disease. She departed this life on September 30, 2003 at home in Ruckersville. Dorothy Q. McCartney, 74, of Madison, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 in the Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Jack Johnson departed this life on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Mr. Johnson will lie in state at Beulah Baptist Church, 9297 Eggbornsville Rd., Rixeyville, Va. on Monday, Sept. 22, from 12 noon until time of the service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Richard O. Myrtle Louise Hawkins
Myrtle Louise Hawkins, 71, of Culpeper, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at her residence. She was born April 12, 1932 in Culpeper to the late James Richard Stanley and Mattie Lorine Wolfrey Stanley.
Mrs. Hawkins loved her family and especially taking care of the children. She was a member of Culpeper Full Gospel Church.
Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Ray Elmo Hawkins, four sons, Jack E. Hawkins and his wife, Bonnie Sue, James W. Hawkins and Bernard Lee Hawkins and his wife, Frances all of Culpeper and John F. Hawkins and his wife, Linda of Brandy Station, and two daughters, Betty Mills of Castleton and Brenda Sue Woodward and her husband, Randolph of Rixeyville.
Additional survivors include five sisters, Edith Jenkins of Brandy Station, Frances Deal, Melzie Woodward and Elsie Lane all of Rixeyville and Thelma Lutz of Orange, three brothers, Clyde Stanley of South Carolina and Ray and Douglas Stanley of Fredericksburg, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Hawkins, two brothers, James and Cecil Stanley and one sister, Catherine Wright.
The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 19, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Pastor Raymond Lee Brown and Rev. Howard Blackburn officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Jeffersonton.

Leonard Emile Bosworth, 73, of Culpeper, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, with a Christian Wake Service at 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church with Fr. Leo Zonneveld officiating.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National cemetery, with honors provided by the Culpeper American Legion Post #330 and the Culpeper VFW Post #2524.

Gladys May Branson
Gladys May Hoke Branson, 94, of Arlington, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Carriage Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fredericksburg. She was born July 8, 1909 in Frederick, Maryland to the late Leroy Hoke and Ola Vane Spurrier Hoke.
Mrs. Branson was a very loving mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her and was an inspiration to many. She loved making and collecting ceramics and shared these with her family.
Mrs. Branson is survived by one daughter, Sandra Harding and her husband, Trewitt D. Harding of Spotsylvania, two grandsons, Todd Allen Polen of High Point, NC and Scott Brandon Polen of Manassas, one step-granddaughter, Trewdee Conrow of Harrisonburg, and four great-grandsons, Troy Allen Polen of High Point, NC, Ethan McDowell Conrow of Harrisonburg, Seth Adam Polen of High Point, NC and Joshua Rileigh Polen of Manassas.
Additional survivors include two sisters, Agatha M. Jerome and Marvel Jane Urban, both residing at Homewood of Crumland Farms in Frederick, MD and one brother, Harold Hoke of Lake Placid, FL.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Branson was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice R. Branson, one brother, Austin Hoke and three sisters, Ruth Hussey, Grace Roelke and Nora Hoke.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 12, at 1:30 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Va.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at Found and Sons Chapel, Culpeper.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National cemetery.

Walter E. Fifer
Walter Edwin Fifer, 76, of Culpeper, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born April 2, 1927 in Harrisonburg, VA to the late Usher Lee Fifer and Mary Shumate Fifer.
Mr. Fifer was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He had his own business as a CPA in Culpeper for more than fifty years. For many years, he was a bookkeeper for Culpeper United Methodist Church and also served as treasurer for the church camp. He was also a past member and past president of the Culpeper Exchange Club.
Mr. Fifer is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Dwight Frazier of Spotsylvania, his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jesse Powell of Culpeper, and one granddaughter, Megan J. Powell of Culpeper who is currently attending Bridgewater College.
Additional survivors include one brother, Dr. George L. Fifer and his wife, Marilyn both of Ohio, one brother-in-law, Brig. Gen. Benjamin F. Dean of Maryland, two sisters-in-law, Lucille H. Hetrcik of Maryland and Betty A. Mains of North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Dean Fifer, one brother, Joseph S. Fifer, one sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Evans.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. Robert J. Donnelly officiating.

Maxine Elliott McDaniel
Maxine Elliott McDaniel, 85, of May Fray Ave., Orange, Va., died on September 8, 2003 at her residence.
She was born October 22, 1917 in Orange, Va.
She was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Madison Run, Va. and retired from the Doubleday Publishing Company.
She was the daughter of the late Samuel Branham and Estelle Wood Branham.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Haywood Earl McDaniel.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara M. Cook and her husband, Michael of Gordonsville, Va., Jean M. Brown of Orange, Va., Margaret M. Lamb of Gordonsville, Va., and Betty M. McGhee of Orange, Va.; three sons, Earl E. McDaniel and his wife, Sue of Gordonsville, Va., Grant E. McDaniel and his wife, Brenda of Orange, Va., and Anthony "Tony" B. McDaniel and his wife, Beverly of Orange, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Breeden of Orange, Va.; and a brother, Willie "Bollie" Branham of Cummings, Ga.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Interment will be private. The Rev. Greg Vogt will officiate.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Preddy Funeral Home in Orange.

Bessie Rebecca Brown
Bessie Rebecca Brown, 90, of Culpeper, died Sept. 7, 2003, at Culpeper Regional Hospital. She was born April 11, 1913 in Orange County, Va. to the late Arthur and Mary Jones Perryman. She was the wife of the late Broadus Brown.
Mrs. Brown was a homemaker who loved gardening and flowers.
She is survived by one son, Ed "Junior" Brown and his wife, Amy of Culpeper; one sister, Mamie Frazier of Stevensburg; and two grandchildren, Brian Brown and Linda Hudson, both of Culpeper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Broadus Brown; one son, Raymond Brown; one daughter, Margaret Haynes; a grandson, Johnny Haynes; four sisters, Thelma Bennett, Gladys Pritt, Mazie Soutter and Lizzie Perryman; three brothers, Arthur, David and Willie Perryman.
A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. at Fairview cemetery with the Rev. Bob Rooper officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home.

Freida Mae Pounds
Freida Mae Pounds, 49, of Madison, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at her residence. She was born June 4, 1954 in Charlottesville.
Mrs. Pounds was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Culpeper. She was a former employee of Aileen in Culpeper for thirteen years and Rus Rental Uniform Service/Cintas for ten years.
She is survived by her parents, Curtis Weakley and Ruby Berry Weakley of Madison; a son, Jason Wayne Pounds of Madison; a brother, John Gilbert Weakley of Midlothian; two sisters, Nellie Jewell of Madison, and Sue Dodson of Brightwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with interment in Etlan cemetery. Pastor Josh Shifflett will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Dorothy Foster Whitfield
Dorothy Foster Whitfield, 78, of Culpeper, left us September 6, 2003, at the Culpeper Regional Hospital. She was born on June 24, 1925 in New York City, New York to Mrs. Emma Stewart Alves and the late Morris Foster Sr.
Dorothy was a resident of Port Chester, N.Y. until 1985 when she moved back to her family home in Culpeper, Va. She was a very loving, understanding, wise, and strong example to her family and people that she came in contact with. She was a Jehovah’s Witness, and member of the Kingdom Hall in Culpeper. She will be dearly missed and long remembered.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Whitfield; one sister, Mary Virginia Williams; and one daughter, Carolyn Ashland Whitfield Simmons.
In addition to her mother, Dorothy is survived by her brother, Morris Foster, Jr. of Culpeper; one sister, Jacqueline H. Robinson of Gardenia, CA; one sister-in-law, Ada Mae Foster; two daughters, Patricia E. Brown of Stamford, CT, and Susan Whitfield Watkins of Culpeper; three sons-in-law, Lawrence Brown, Deforest Watkins, and Jon Simmons; four grandchildren, Joseph Michael Hullum and his wife Pamela of Stamford, CT, John Mark Hullum and his wife Leisha also of Stamford, CT, Jacques-Andre Muhammed Simmons and his wife Shadelle of Culpeper, and Tamara Famata Waters and her husband Marlon, of Orange; ten great-grandchildren, Duane Witt Hullum, Marcus Andre Hullum, Tiana Yolanda Gunn, Tyra Sade Simmons, Jacques-Andre Muhammad Simmons, Jr., Kialah-Lynne Symore Waters, Maylasia Ashland Simmons, Rasheeda Imani Ella Hullum, Asha Amel Emma Hullum, Elijah-Aundrey Malachi Waters and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, with Brother Douglas E. Thompson officiating.
