Margaret Gaver
Margaret Louise Gaver, 92, of Germantown, Md., died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Sharon Nursing home in Sandy Spring, Md. She was born March 6, 1910, in Culpeper to the late Ulyses G. Kilby and Carrie Lee Fincham Kilby.
Mrs. Gaver was a life long member of New Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet L. Weddell, and her husband, John, both of Germantown, Md.; six grandchildren, Steve Weddell, Robin Ricketts, Beverly Long, Carrie Lee Lewis, Rick Weddell and Chrissy Dimond; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by one sister, Virgie Long of Annandale.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis L. Gaver, four sisters and two brothers.
The family received friends Sunday, July 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service was held Monday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel.
Interment followed in Fairview cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Elizabeth Grigsby
Elizabeth Strother Cubbage Grigsby, 75, of Washington, Va., died July 16, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born Dec.16, 1926, in Rappahannock County to the late Maggie and Thomas A. Cubbage. She was a member of Forrest Grove Baptist Church. Elizabeth was a devoted mother and homemaker. Many county residents delighted in her cooking skills, enjoyed her beautiful flower beds and knew of her talents as a quilter.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin P. “Mike” Grigsby; three sons and two daughters and their spouses, Laura and Floyd Grigsby, Suzi and Patrick Smith, Lillian and Nick Norman, Louise and James Grigsby and Susan and Rick Grigsby; one brother, Owen Q. Cubbage; and a sister, Cecil Lewis. Her devoted longtime friends, Jane and Roger Batchelder and Beverly and Hal Hunter also survive.
Other survivors include six grandchildren, Randy Norman, Karen Nulls, Jason Grigsby, Julie Grigsby, Dorthe Grigsby and Owen Smith. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Louie Cubbage, Oakley Cubbage, Edward Cubbage and Giles Cubbage.
The family received friends on Friday, July 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel.
A private interment was held at the Cubbage Family cemetery.

Joan Jenkins
Joan Dee Jenkins, 70, of Culpeper, died July 16, 2002, at Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community. She was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Washington, D. C., to the late Jesse and Anne Pinkham Arnold.
She is survived by a niece, Barbara McDaniel, and her husband, Steve, of Rhoadesville; a great-niece, Teresa Hicks, of Manassas; a great-nephew, Sean McDaniel, of Waldorf, Md.; and two great-great-nieces, Heather and Laura Ames of Culpeper.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Coolidge.
A funeral service was held Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home with the Rev. John Miller of Gourdvine Baptist Church officiating. The family received visitors one hour prior to service time.
A private burial followed in Fairview cemetery.
Eliza Kennedy
Eliza Goldie Kennedy, 90, formerly of Slate Mills, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton. She was born Feb. 5, 1912, in Madison County.
Mrs. Kennedy was an active member of Slate Mills Baptist Church and a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
She is survived by three children, Bob Kennedy, and his wife, Harriet, both of Lynchburg; Betty Coates, and her husband, John, both of Culpeper; and Charles Kennedy, and his wife, Cynthia, both of Centreville; and five grandchildren, Vicki Kennedy, of Timonium, Md., Doug Kennedy, of Lynchburg, Tina Boland, of Chantilly, Tricia K. Beaumont, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Chris Minnis of Manassas.
She is also survived by three sisters, Ruth and Florine, both of Culpeper, and Frances of Brightwood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Waver Wilson Kennedy.
The family received friends Thursday, July 18, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Pastor Virgil Wilson officiating.
Interment followed in Fairview cemetery.

Annie “Tennie” Wingfield
Annie Suddith “Tennie” Wingfield, 81, of Culpeper died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Madison to the late Ernest Elmo Suddith and Alma Blanch Hutcherson Suddith.
Tennie was a longtime member of Culpeper United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Walter Lee “Jack” Wingfield, of Culpeper; her daughter, Connie Wingfield Wilson, and her husband, Mac, both of Midlothian; her grandson, John Derek Wilson, and his wife, Ann, both of Midlothian and three great-grandchildren, Jake, Isabelle and Nick.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruby Weaver, Gladys Clore, Lucy Montgomery and Virginia Paulino, and one brother, Robert Smith.
The family received friends Friday, July 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel.
A graveside service was held Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at Riverview cemetery, Charlottesville, with the Rev. John Crawford, III officiating.

Dorothy Estes
Dorothy Gore Estes, 95, of Rappahannock County, died March 19, 2002, in Lynn Care Center, Front Royal. She was born Dec. 14, 1906, in Fauquier County.
Dorothy was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Washington, Va.; a member of the Culpeper Chapter of the DAR; a member of the Rappahannock Garden Club and a member of the Sperryville Bridge Club for many years.
She is survived by a son, Charles K. Estes; grandchildren, Katherine E. Baader Kilby and Charles K. Estes II of Sperryville and M. Susan Estes Ryan of Virginia Beach; and great-grandchildren, Michael Joseph Baader II, Charles Benjamin Estes and Julia Katherine Estes, all of Sperryville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Estes; sisters, Virginia G. Miller Lindstrom, Louise G. Campbell and Helen G. Benton; and a granddaughter, Anne Gore Estes.
A graveside service was held Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal cemetery, Woodville, with the Rev. Jennings Hobson III officiating.

Harry Jenkins
Harry “Burlee” Jenkins, 39, of Rhoadesville died Monday, March 18, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. He was born Aug. 24, 1962, in Culpeper.
Burlee was employed with Chantilly Turf Farm until 1992 after which he was a self-employed landscaper.
He is survived by his loving partner of 13 years, Sandra Taylor of Rhoadesville, Buster and Cry Baby, his mother, Mollie Sue Pullen, and three sons, Harry McPeak, Steven McPeak and Johnathan McPeak, all of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include four brothers, Dennis “Denny” Jenkins of Remington, John Jenkins Jr. of Rixeyville, and Mike Jenkins and Marty Jenkins, both of Culpeper; and three sisters, Jenna Jenkins of Louisa, and Brenda Dwyer and Suzy Jenkins, both of Culpeper.
He is also survived by Ms. Taylor’s family; her son, George Wittig, two grandsons, Justin and Nicholas Wittig, all of Lutherville, Md., two sisters, Patricia Heline and Pam Taylor, both of Lutherville, Md., and one brother, Glen Taylor, of Rhoadesville.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Raymond Jenkins Sr.

A funeral service was held Thursday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Richard Columbus Barber officiating.
Vivian Mays
Vivian A. Mays, 88, of Culpeper, died March 21, 2002, at Fauquier Hospital. She was born July 11, 1913, in Rappahannock County to the late Alpheus Daniel and Grace Dawson Daniel.
Mrs. Mays was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, William Keith Mays, of Culpeper; a nephew, John Purvis, of Shipman; a niece, Janice Kaylor, of California; and a cousin, Beverly Miller, of Culpeper.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Mays.
Friends called at the Clore-English Funeral Home on Sunday, March 24, from 2 to 4 p.m.
A graveside service was held in Fairview cemetery Monday, March 25, with Dr. Ted Fuson officiating.

Betty Reynolds
Betty Jean Reynolds, 75, of Culpeper, died March 22, 2002, at her residence. She was born May 8, 1926, in Grafton, W. Va. to the late Rayman L. Brand and Blanche Smith Brand.
She was a member of the Culpeper Women’s Club, Culpeper United Methodist Church and the Susanna Wesley Circle of the church. Betty enjoyed flower gardening, reading, playing bridge, bowling and working crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Reynolds of Culpeper; her children, Marlene Whittaker of Gainesville, Charlotte Keeley and her husband, Don, of Jeffersonton, Gayle Ferrell and her husband, Tom, of Warrenton and Bill Reynolds and his wife, Terri, of Fredericksburg; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Madelon Kidwell, of Rehoboth Beach, Del.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home on Monday, March 25.
A funeral service was held at Culpeper United Methodist Church Tuesday, March 26, at 11 a.m. with the Revs. John Crawford III and Marvin Cook officiating.
Interment followed in Culpeper Masonic cemetery.

Meredith Scott, Cdr,
USN (Ret)
Meredith Leitch Scott, Cdr, USN (Ret), died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 5, 1915, in Wilmington, N.C., to the late Philip H. Scott, Capt, USCG (Ret) and Martha Leitch Scott. After Capt. Scott’s retirement, the family moved to Orange County where their roots were and settled at “Beau Monte.”
Cmdr. Scott is an alumnus of Christchurch School, Woodberry Forest and Yale University. He received his commission in the Navy from the midshipman school at Northwestern University and served nearly 22 years, mostly on destroyers.
Following his naval career he was a representative for Massachusetts Life Insurance Company. He was active at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry, was the first president of Region I and a member of the Diocesan Executive Council. He was a former chairman of the local Red Cross chapter and served for a number of years as disaster chairman.
At Yale, he belonged to the St. Anthony fraternity and was a member of the legendary “Iron Man” football team, which as underdogs beat Princeton in 1934 after playing both offensive and defensive the whole game.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Harriet Green Fore Scott. Other survivors include his brother, Johnny Scott, of Somerset; three stepsons, Joe Garino, of Hilltop Lakes, Texas, P. Winfree Fore III, of Harrisonburg and James G. Fore, of Winchester; and two stepdaughters, Elizabeth F. Keatinge, of Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Catherine F. Hoffman, of New Hope.
Also surviving are one nephew, Peter Belfield, of Waitsfield, Vt., and one niece, Ann Belfield, of Thornton of Lawrence, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nita Garino; two brothers, Philip and William; and one sister, Martha Scott Belfield.
A memorial service was held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Wednesday, March 27, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Gray officiating.
Interment followed in St. Stephen’s Memorial Garden.
