Charles Morris

HOT SPRINGS - Charles Orvis Morris, 79, of the Springs Nursing Center,
Hot Springs, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at Bath County Community
Hospital.

He was born August 1, 1925, in Hot Springs, a son of the late Joe T.
and Florence Morris.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and are being handled
by McLaughlin Funeral Home.

Violet Booth

Violet Reed Booth, 92, of The Brier Rehabilitation Center in Ronceverte, W.Va., and formerly of Johnson Creek Rd., died Monday, February 7, 2005.

She was born July 28, 1912, in Mercer County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Alfred and Nettie Sheard Reed.

Mrs. Booth was a member of the Johnson Creek ARP Church. She was a loving and caring mother and will be missed by all her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henderson Clyde Booth in 1995; one son, Clifford Henderson Booth; two grandsons, John Crawford and David Crawford; and two great-grandchildren, Jon Adam Hunter and Charity Southall.

Surviving are a son, Daryol Booth and his wife, Judi, of Covington; three daughters, Janet Hunter and her husband, Frank Hunter Jr., of Ronceverte, W.Va., Opal Ash and her husband, Joe, of Lavonia, Mich., and Delores Crawford and her husband, Alvin, of Sinks Grove, W.Va., 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Terry Koon officiating.

Interment will be made in the Johnson Creek ARP Church cemetery.

Friends may pay their respects anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

George Brisendine

George Lewis Brisendine, 84, of 301 E. Fudge St., died Monday, February 7, 2005, at Alleghany Regional Hospital.

He was the husband of Mary Smith Brisendine.

Mr. Brisendine was born July 22, 1920, in Covington, the son of the late Stephen Clifford Brisendine and Irene Vaught Brisendine.

He served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army. Mr. Brisendine was employed by Westvaco as a crane operator, retiring after 44 years of service. He was a lifetime member of this community and a member of First Christian Church. Mr. Brisendine was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an avid gardener.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Mr. Brisendine is survived by a son, Ryland B. Brisendine and wife, Lois; a daughter, Phyllis B. McAllister and husband, James, all of Covington; four grandchildren, Debra S. Brisendine of Rockville, Md., Neil S. Brisendine of Dixon, Tenn.; Gary W. McAllister and wife, Carrie, of Covington, and Kathy M. Summers and husband, Clint, of Salem; three great-grandchildren, Chris Lawson, Kasey Lawson and Tyler Summers; a step-great-grandson, David W. McAllister of Covington; a sister, Ruby Lee Rice and husband, Darfow; and two brothers, Charles Edward "Monk" Brisendine and Melvin Franklin Brisendine and wife, Ann.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brisendine was preceded in death by four brothers, Stephen Clifford Brisendine Jr., James Robert Brisendine, Bill Brisendine and Harry Eugene Brisendine; and one sister, Edith May Richmond.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.

Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Dana Humphreys, Robbie Miller, Clint Summers, Delbert Smith, Willie Smith, Gary Smith, Richard Watson and Randy Rose.

Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 301 E. Fudge St., Covington.

Mary Childress

CLIFTON FORGE - Mary Burks Childress, 91, of The Woodlands, Clifton Forge, and formerly of 200 Roxbury St., Clifton Forge, died Sunday morning, Feb. 6, 2005, at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.

She was born in Low Moor, Oct. 31, 1913, a daughter of the late Charles C. Burks Sr. and Mary Ann Sprow Burks.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock in Sunrise cemetery, Low Moor, with the Rev. Jim Grogan officiating. Interment will follow.

Friends may pay their respects any time at Nicely Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Men's Bible Class and the Men's Chorus of Central United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 16, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.

Willie Craft

CLIFTON FORGE - Willie Eugene Roberts Craft, 83, of Scott Hill, Clifton Forge, died Monday, February 7, 2005, at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor.

She was born February 11, 1921, in Glen Wilton, a daughter of the late Eugene Franklin Roberts and Lillie Kidd Roberts.

Mrs. Craft was a homemaker and a member of Kaiser Memorial Prebyterian Church in Iron Gate.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Craft of Clifton Forge and Harold and Brenda Craft of Covington; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Craft Sr.; one daughter, Lillie Eloise Irvine; one son, Robert E. Craft Jr.; and several brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. from Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor, officiated by the Rev. Lisa Marshall.

Interment will follow.

There will be no visitation, however, friends may call Nicely Funeral Home during business hours.

Paul Gillespie

Paul Leo Adonis Gillespie, 71, of Covington, died Monday, February 7, 2005, at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor.

He was born July 6, 1933, in Alleghany County, a son of the late William A. and Elsie Robinson Gillespie.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be handled by Arritt Funeral Home.

Gloria Griffith

Gloria Hiler Griffith, 50, of 200 Hodder Lane, Highland Springs, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, at her residence.

She was the wife of Vernon "Champ" Griffith.

Mrs. Griffith was born January 25, 1955, in Covington, the daughter of the late Jackie Lee Hiler Jr. and Virginia Ervin Hiler Simmons.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Pat Kegley, 309 E. Gordon St., Covington, Va., 24426.

Fremont Hall

CLIFTON FORGE - Fremont Baker Hall, 85, of 1218 Crestwood Ave., Clifton Forge, died Saturday February 5, 2005, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 19, 1919 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late Renzay Baker Hall and Letha Maude Ailstock Hall.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a. m. Thursday in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. W. Pembroke Hall officiating.

Pallbearers will be Harold W. "Bunny" Campbell, O.C. Hatcher, Jack Manner, Bill Bursey, James Smith, James David Williams, Bob Putnam and Elwood Mays.

Interment wil be in Mountain View cemetery, Clifton Forge. Graveside military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 4299 of Clifton Forge.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 o'clock at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 1218 Crestwood Avenue, Clifton Forge.

Darlene Farrar

CLIFTON FORGE - Vivian Darlene Huffman Farrar, 70, of 1319 Wilmont St., Clifton Forge, died this morning at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home.

Carter Tucker

The Rev. Carter Bowles Tucker, 83, of Glen Burnie, Md., died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at the Millenium Health and Rehabilitation in Glenn Burnie, Md.

He was born March 6, 1920, in Alleghany County, a son of the late James W. and Mary Alice Wolfe Tucker.

The Rev. Tucker retired as a tailor with Raleigh Clothes Co. in Baltimore, Md. He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church and was the founding member of the West Virginia Gospel Singers.

He was a devoted husband to his wife, Martha Wright Tucker, who preceded him in death in 1981. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jay Tucker, in 1987; and also by four brothers and a sister.

The Rev. Tucker was a loving father to Frances Mittman, Mary Tucker, Faye Lafon, Florence Steele, Carl Tucker, Dannie Tucker and David Tucker. He is also survived by a number of grandchildren; great-granchildren; nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon Wednesday in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Hamblin officiating. Interment will be in Lone Star cemetery.

Pallbearers wil be David Tucker, David Tucker Jr., Gary Tucker, Florence Steele, Sherry McCelland and Wade Melvin.

Friends may pay their respects any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Arritt Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 8:30.

Georgia Tucker

CLIFTON FORGE - Georgia Givens Tucker, 67, 108 Ross Lane, Clifton Forge, died Sunday, February 6, 2005, at Carilon Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born February 7, 1937 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Mae Bell Givens.

Mrs. Tucker retired as a beautician from New Concepts Beauty Salon.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her brother, Lonnie "Timmy" Givens Jr.

Surviving are her husband Ralph L. Tucker Sr. of Clifton Forge; three sons, Ralph L. Tucker Jr. and Bonnie Walker of Covington, Randall S. Tucker and his wife Jean of Clifton Forge and Ronnie Tucker and his wife Helen of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, Virginia and Robbie Brown of North Carolina and Justin T. Tucker of Harrisonburg; two great grandchildren, Courtney Brown and Tyler Brown; three sisters, Clara and Quentin Tucker, Bertie and Leonard Persinger, both of Covington and Laura and Johnnie Booze of Clifton Forge; two brothers, Lloyd and Phyllis Givens and Bob and Martha Givens, both of Covington; one sister-in-law, Judy G. Clark of Eagle Rock, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 p. m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Douglas S. Moore officiating assisted by the Rev. Paul Burns.
