Ms. Virginia Williams
(Died October 25, 2011)
Mrs. Virginia Lutell Wilson Williams, age 84, departed this life at her residence, 3607-B Portsmouth Street, Hopewell, on Tuesday, October 25. 2011. Virginia was born on April 3, 1927 to the late Richard Wilson, Sr. and Australia Holloman Wilson in Baltimore, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her only son, Willie C. “Boochie” Williams on February 19, 2011, her husband, Calvin Williams and brothers, James Lawrence Wilson (Maza) and John Issac Wilson, Sr. (Mary Sue).
Virginia retired on May 24, 1989 from Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City after 30 years of service. After retirement, she moved back to Virginia where she has been a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and a union member of the Retirees Association of District Council 37. Virginia loved to shop, travel, watch sports and movies but most of all, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sisters, Mrs. Adelle W. Ringer and Mrs. Maretha W. Bailey (Clarence, Sr.) of Hopewell; two brothers, Mr. Calvin Wilson of South Amboy, New Jersey and Mr. Richard Wilson, Jr, (Dorothy) of Hopewell; one grandson, Dariell D. Fant of Feasperville, Pa and one great-granddaughter, Chelsea; one goddaughter, Mrs. Genevieve Hutchinson-Allen, of Lockhart, TX; one aunt, Mrs. Inez Fautz, of Ivor; several beloved cousins, nephews and nieces, among them, Mrs. Melva W. Lewis (Larry), Ms. Phalathia Wilson, Mrs.Tonya B. Gregory (all of Hopewell) and a host of other family and friends; long-time friends, Mrs. Louvenia Hutchinson of New York City, Ms. Easter Pate of Jersey City, NJ, Deacon Calvin Washington and Deacon Claiborne Cooke of Hopewell; her loyal caregiver, Mrs. Deborah McKensie of Dinwiddie, Va.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2011 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Hopewell with the pastor, Rev. William Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Wilkerson Memorial cemetery in Petersburg. Immediate family only are asked to assemble at Mrs. Williams’ residence (3607-B Portsmouth Street) at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the service. The family will receive friends at 1110 Arlington Road, Hopewell, or call Mrs. Ringer @ (804) 458-2645.

Ms. Alice Morse
(Died November 1, 2011)
On Monday morning, November 1, 2011, Mrs. Alice Lee Morse, 76, of 517 A Pecan Street, Petersburg, departed this life at her residence.
She was born on September 26, 1935 to the late Mr. Willie Spencer and Mrs. Alice Lee Spencer.
Mrs. Morse was a native of Hopewell where she attended Hopewell public schools. She was employed at Titmus Optical Company for a number of years.
She was a faithful member of Christian Life Center, Petersburg, until her illness prevented her from attending regularly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Morse; two sisters, Mary E. Allen and Sarah Jane; and a step-daughter, Hazel Durel.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted and loving sons, James Jones, Jr. (Pauline) and Marty Jones of Petersburg; her devoted and loving daughters, Master Sgt. Melody Richey (Kenneth) of Hinesville, GA, Cheryl Johnson of Williamsburg and Rosalyn Morse of Newport News; one brother, Carnell Spencer of Baltimore, MD; one stepson, Michael Morse of Ettrick; seven stepdaughters, Elva Hollins of Ettrick, Marion Wooten, Rebecca Bethea, Ruth Thompson, Barbara Morse, Mildred Owens and Lillian Whitten of Petersburg; several grandchildren, among them devoted, Mary Burnett, Ashley Morse, Sabrina Owens and Kim Morris; several great grandchildren who loved her dearly; a devoted son-in-law, Carter Burnett; a number of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends; among them her devoted caregiver, Rachel Spratley.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the Chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. Rev. William N. Bland, Jr., pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Petersburg, will officiate. Interment will follow in Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the chapel on Monday evening.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Mrs. Eleanor Lois Whiting
(Died November 1, 2011)
Mrs. Eleanor Lois Whiting (Sugie), 93, of 6900 Chippokes Road, Spring Grove, departed this life on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell.
She was born on October 13, 1918 to the late Leonard S. and Pauline Johnson Holloway. Mrs. Whiting was educated in the Prince George Public School System. She dedicated her time to taking care of her family.
Mrs. Whiting was a loyal member of Morning Star Baptist Church, Spring Grove and served faithfully on both the Missionary and Pastor’s Aid Auxiliary until her health declined. She was also a very dedicated and active member with the Order of the Eastern Star, Burrowsville,
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry; sons, Frank and Ronald Whiting; grandson, Thomas Graves, Jr.; sister, Caroline Brown; brothers, Bernard Herman and Junius Holloway.
Surviving are: two sons, Clayton Whiting of Spring Grove and Tazewell Whiting (Linda) of Surry; one daughter, Sarah W. Graves (Thomas) of Spring Grove; brothers, John Holloway of Spring Grove, Harold Holloway of Lackey and Andrew Holloway of Washington, DC; sisters, Flossye H. Elliott of Claremont, Edna H. Graves of Washington DC and Dolly H. Elliott of Claremont; daughter-in-law, Shirley E. Whiting; sisters-in-law, Elnora Jackson, Ollie Wanamaker, Elizabeth Taylor and Mildred Holloway; over one hundred grandchildren extending through five generations; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends, among them devoted, Bertha Carter.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 7, 2011 at Morning Star Baptist Church, Spring Grove. The pastor, Dr. Robert L. Elliott, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place from 1 to 5pm on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at the chapel of Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell.

Ms. Annie Gilchrist
(Died November 3, 2011)
Ms. Annie Gilchrist, 69, of 17779 Lebanon Road, Spring Grove, Va. departed this life on November 3, 2011 at John Randolph Medical Center.
She was born on January 24, 1942 to the late Mr. William B. Pettaway and Mrs. Annie B. Shaw Pettaway.
Ms. Gilchrist was a native of Spring Grove and attended the Surry School System. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church.
Her passion for cooking made her well know in the community and the love for fishing was her greatest hobby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Gilchrist; son, James S. Gilchrist; brother, David Harrison; sisters, Emma P. Smith, Endia Jones, Bernice Charity and great granddaughter, Kiera S. Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted daughter, Gloria Tyler (Carol) of Prince George; three loving sons, Alvin, John and Wilbert Gilchrist, Jr.; sisters, Mary Evans of Disputana, Alice Gholson of Claremont and Emma Hargrave of Spring Grove; brothers, Clarence Pettaway of Spring Grove and William Pettaway of Hopewell; niece, Hope Brown (David) and grandchildren, Chanel, Tawanda, Tonya, AJ, JJ, Kristina, Vera; god grandchild, Nicholas; among them host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Riverview Nursing Home for their love and support.
A Funeral service will be held 2PM Wednesday, November 8, 2011 at the chapel of Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell. Rev. Edward L. Fox, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist church, will officiate. Interment will follow at the Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7-8PM at the chapel. The daughter (Gloria) may be contacted at 452-0079. Mr. Lonniel Edmunds, Jr., 28, of Petersburg, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 3, 2011.

Ms. Ezlen Roney, 106, of 1401 Plantation Lakes Circle , Chesapeake, Va. departed this life November 4, 2011 at Chesapeake Health & Rehab Center.

Mr. Junius Wilson Parham
(Died January 11, 2012)
Mr. Junius Wilson Parham I, 82, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Johnston-Willis Hospital.
He was born in Prince George County, VA November 23, 1929 to the late John Henry Parham and Daisy Bell Parham. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Estelle Allmon, Gladys Pair, Maxine Parham, and Frank Parham.
Mr. Parham was educated in the Petersburg school system where he graduated from Peabody High School in 1949. He also attended Virginia State College (University). He was employed by Central State Hospital and Southside Virginia Training Center in Petersburg, VA where he retired with 33 plus years of service.
He was a veteran of the Korean War. He received a United Nations Service Medal and a Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars. He was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division, 15th Regiment as a Sergeant First Class.
He was a devoted member of Gillfield Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed hearing the word of God. He loved sports and was a great fan of the Washington Redskins. His favorite hobby was photography and videography of precious family moments.
The people whose lives he touched will remember him as a great and loving husband, wonderful father, dear friend, and humble man.
Mr. Parham leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Lottye L. Parham; two daughters, Lisa Hamlin (Dewey) and Eunice Walker (Terence) both of Petersburg, VA; one son, MSgt. (USAF Ret.) Junius W. Parham II (Anatilde) of Anchorage, AK; six grandchildren, OS2 (USN) Antwaun Parham (Nicole), Jacinta Parham, Junius Parham III, Lillian Parham, Kisha Williams, Jon Sykes; four great grandchildren; two beloved and devoted brothers, Deacon Stanley Parham, Sr. (Ail) and James Parham; a devoted Sister-n-Law, Eunice Lanier; a host of nieces, nephews, and devoted friends, James and Lois Reed, Willis and Iris Brown, and Mr. and Mrs. Carol Booth; and many other special friends.
Funeral Services will be held at Gillfield Baptist Church, 209 Perry Street, Petersburg, VA at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2012. The Rev. Dr. George W. C. Lyons, Jr. will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at Bermuda Memorial Park, Enon, VA.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Chapel of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, VA. Family will assemble at the home, 1419 Ferndale Avenue, Petersburg, VA (804) 733-8886 the day of the service.

Ms. Elnora Jackson
(Died January 12, 2012)
Mrs. Elnora Whiting Jackson, 101, of Prince George, departed this life peacefully on January 12, 2012 at the John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell.
She was born on June 10, 1910 to the late Philmore and Elnora Whiting.
She was the widow of Richard Jackson and was also preceded in death by her five brothers, Peyton, George, Henry, James and Sanvandos (Buddy).
Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Shiloh 7th Day Adventist Church, Petersburg and attended regularly until she became ill and was admitted to the Waverly Health and Rehab Center, Waverly. Surviving are: two sisters, Ollie Wanamaker and Elizabeth Taylor; a sister-in-law, Gloria Whiting; her devoted niece, Audrey; dedicated caregivers, Russell and Alonda; and a host of other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the chapel of Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell. Rev. Dr. Robert Elliott, pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church, Prince George, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Morning Star Baptist Church cemetery. Ms. Bethel C. Brown (Bert), 42, of 3 East Sandlewood Court, Petersburg, departed this life on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.
She was born to Sylvester Brown and the late Patricia Brown Baker on August 19, 1969.
Ms. Brown joined Mt. Olivet Baptist Church at an early age.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Brown Baker (Milton); grandmother, Mattie Mason; great grandmother, Sadie Ridley Brown; brother, Eric Green and cousin, Raymond Sky Brown.
Surviving are: her devoted companion of 20 years, Tyrone Fisher of Petersburg; a son, Tyrei Brown; step sons, Jonathan Walker, Zyke Brown, Jabazz Hawley and Derrick Claiborn all of Petersburg; daughters, Darria (Booka) Brown and Ty’Asia Fisher both of Petersburg; brothers, Damien Brown, Terrell Massenburg and Deonta Brown all of Petersburg; sisters, devoted, Tawanda (Tasha) Brown Jefferson (Stuart), Da’Sha Brown and Tierra Granderson all of Petersburg; aunts, Annie Mae Jackson, Inell Green and devoted aunt, Dorothy (Dot) Brown, Jean D. Brown all of Petersburg, Shirley Ridgewood (James) and Margaret Johnson (Jimmy) both of Washington D.C.; uncles, John Brown of Washington D.C., Samuel Ridley of Stoney Creek, Keith Mason of Petersburg and McKenley Mason (Barbara) of Petersburg; a host of cousins, among them several devoted, Amber Brown, Gregory Brown, Paul Johnson, Yolanda (Yo-Yo) Jackson and Tezerra Chapman; several other relatives and a multitude of friends, among them two devoted, Veronica Jefferson and William (Bill) Hayes.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Ms. Wanda Biampamba
(Died January 16, 2012)
Wanda R. Biampamba, 51, entered eternal rest on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Halifax Regional Memorial Hospital, South Boston, VA.
She was born on July 13, 1960 in Chesterfield County to David Lee Brown, Sr. and the late Geraldine Brown Crews and was the second eldest of six children born of this union.
Wanda received her education in the Chesterfield County Public School System and graduated from Thomas Dale High School. As a young woman, Wanda had a great love for children and although she could never have any of her own, she was mother to many of her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Wanda accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Hosanna Outreach Ministries, Richmond. Wanda was gifted with a beautiful voice and loved to sing, often the featured soloist, as well a member of the Praise and Worship Team and the church choir.
To know Wanda was to love Wanda, or as so lovingly called by her father, “Shorty,” her smile would light up a room and her kind and gentle spirit will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine Brown Crews; sister, Rosemary Crews and brother, David Lee Brown, Jr.
Left to cherish her memories are: her father, David Lee Brown, Sr. of Petersburg; sisters, Pamela Smith (Michael), Deborah Myrick (Timothy); brother, Alexander Brown (Tiffany); step sisters, Roxie Smith (Carl) and Francis Brown (Carlos) all of South Chesterfield; step brothers, Russell Crews of McKenney and Eddie Crews of North Carolina; two aunts, Sarah L. Parham and Edna M. Claiborne; four uncles, Lawrence Brown, Sr., Bernard Brown, Sylvester Brown and Claven A. Wood, Sr.; fourteen nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon, on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Hosanna Outreach Ministries, 2615 Egee Drive, Richmond, VA. Pastor Raymond Baker, officiating. Private interment will follow at the Sharpe Family cemetery, South Chesterfield.
