WILLIAM C. KINCAID
William Collins Kincaid, 85, died November 25, 2009 at Nansemond Pointe.
Born April 10, 1924 in Low Moor, VA, he was the son of the late Evelyn and Charles Lester Kincaid. Mr. Kincaid was a member of First Baptist Church and owner of Kincaid Machine Company.
Survivors included his two sons David A. Kincaid and wife Jan of Lynchburg, VA and Stephen W. Kincaid and wife Sue of Suffolk, VA; six grandchildren Tanya McGraw, Debra Lucado, Jenny Anderson, Sheena Laine, Austin Beck and Aaron Beck and wife Erin; nine great grand children; brother Charles Ashby Kincaid and wife Frances of Suffolk; and sister Phyllis Garrett and husband Philip of Portsmouth; and sister-in-law Virginia Lanning and husband Harry E. of Windsor, VA.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 30, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Rev. Bryan Ray with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad, PO Box 1515, Suffolk VA 23439.

Deacon Herbert L. Wheat, Sr.
(Died October 25, 2011)
Deacon Herbert L. Wheat, Sr., 80, of Hopewell, departed this life on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Riverview on the Appomattox, Hopewell. He was the son of the late Charles H. and Viola Valentine Wheat of City Point, Hopewell where they resided for many years. Deacon Wheat was retired from Stone Container with many years of dedicated service. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, City Point where he served faithfully as a Deacon. Preceding him in death were his daughter; Antoine “Twan” and his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-one years; Anna Harris Wheat, three daughters; Valeria P. Wheat, Rev. Dorothy Wheat Crockett, Hopewell, Debbie Wheat, Dinwiddie, one son; Herbert L. Wheat, Jr. (Arnette), Dinwiddie, eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; six sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; adopted children and grandchildren and many, many friends. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a. m. on Monday, October 31, 2011 at First Baptist Church, City Point. The Rev. Dr. Rudolph Dunbar, pastor, will officiate and the Rev. Dorothy Wheat Crockett will perform the eulogy. Interment will follow at Bermuda Memorial, cemetery, Chester. In lieu of flowers please make donations payable to First Baptist Church, City Point earmarked for the Evelyn Whirley Food Pantry. The family wishes to express their appreciation for all acts of kindness.

Mr. Christopher Pettaway
(Died November 22, 2012)
Christopher C. Pettaway “Strange” was taken suddenly from his earthly home to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond.
Christopher was preceded in death by his father, Coston Pettaway, Sr. ; two sisters, Mary Ann Jones and Joice Jones; grandmother, Rosa A. Pettaway and nephew, Samuel Maurice “Fatty” Blizzard, Jr.
Left to cherish his precious memory are: two sons, Nicholas Pettaway and Christopher Pettaway; grandson, Elijah Pettaway all of Hopewell; a devoted mother, Rosa M. Pettaway of Hopewell; one sister, Barbara Williams (Adam) of Hopewell; four brothers, Jimmy Lee Coston, Jr., Edward Lee Pettaway both of Hopewell, Russell and Tricina Pettaway and his two sons, Russell, Jr. and George all of Hampton; four aunts, Gertrude Williams Norman of Hopewell, Delores Mayes (Peter), Clarena Monroe and Mary Lee Pettaway all of Prince George; four uncles, Robert Pettaway (Ruth), David Pettaway, Roy Pettaway all of Hopewell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11am, Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the chapel of Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell. Interment will follow in the Mount Sinai Community cemetery, Prince George.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell.

Mr. Alvin Scott
(November 22, 1934 - October 29, 2011)
Mr. Alvin Scott, 77, 10731 Colonial Trail, Spring Grove, departed this left in the early morning hours Saturday, October 29, 2011 at his residence.
Alvin was born November 27, 1938, in Surry County to Eva Scott. He was educated in the Surry County Public School System.
Alvin was a dedicated member of the Abundant Life Christian Church, Spring Grove, Virginia where he was an usher until his health began to fail but continued to worship there until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a very devoted sister Barbara Scott. He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted brother, John Scott of Richmond; a devoted niece, Vanessa Scott of Prince George; two devoted great-nieces, Shannon Allen of Prince George and Alicia Scott of Hopewell; cousins, Naomi of Petersburg and Clinton Scott; a host of other relatives and friends among them devoted close friends, Edward Harrison, Junious Pierce, Lewis Jones, Harry Pierce. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Abundant Life Christian Church, Spring Grove. The pastor, Rev. Leon Pettaway, will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 12:30 p.m. at the church on the day of the service.

Calvin Lucas Jr.
CLIFTON FORGE - Calvin Douglas Lucas Jr., 42, of 1607 Cherry Avenue, Clifton Forge, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at the Liberty House Nursing Home.
He was the son of the late Calvin Douglas Sr. and Gertrude Elizabeth Mays Lucas.
Mr. Lucas was a pallet maker for the Boliva Lumber Company in Clifton Forge and he loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
He is survived by a daughter, Emily Christine Lucas of Chase City; two uncles, James Mays and Dallas Mays; a special cousin, Barbara Mays Curtis; best friend, Doug Altizer; special friends, Ramona and Mitchell Tucker and his loyal and loving dog, Beau.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. At the request of Mr. Lucas, his body was cremated. The family suggests memorial tributestake the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Alleghany Highlands Unit, P. O. Box 11, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422 or to the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
Arrangements are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.

Dorothy Ross
Dorothy Jackson Ross, 69, of 106 East Prospect Street, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Alleghany Regional Hospital at Low Moor.
She was born December 24, 1934 in Covington a daughter of the late Lawrence and Virginia Harris Jackson.
Mrs. Ross was a 1953 graduate of Watson High School. She was a former employee of the Willco Department Store in Austin, Texas, a former employee of Halmode in New Castle and had retired from Kmart in Covington.
She was a member of the Pine Street Baptist Church. Mrs. Ross was a homemaker and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid bowler and always enjoyed Bible Study at Pine Street Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lena Jackson.
Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Lorenzo Ross of Covington; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donnell and Carla Ross of Lithonia, Ga., Jeff and Julie Ross of Hurt and Dale and Tonya Ross of Hanford, Calif.; one daughter and son-in-law, Lola and Derek McAllister of Durham, N. C.; eight grandchildren, Derek Ross, Marcus Twitty, Aaron Ross, Tia Ross, Keenan Ross, Makayla Ross, Hope Ross and Faith Ross; one sister, Betty Heighter and her husband, Lorenzo of Covington; one brother, Clayton Jackson and his wife, Aurelia of Covington; one aunt, Geraldine Harris and her husband, Hezekiah of Covington, and several nieces and nephews including Brian Jackson of Covington who was raised in the home.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p. m. at Pine Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas S. Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Friends may pay their respects anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p. m. at Arritt's Funeral Home, Highland Avenue.

Mr. Willie Spencer
(Died October 30, 2011)
Mr. Willie Hoover Spencer, 82, of 233 New Street, Petersburg, departed this life on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.
He was born on August 29, 1929 to the late John B. and Delia Virginia Lewis Spencer.
Mr. Spencer retired from Stone Container in 1988 after 40 years of dedicated service.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church, Hopewell and attended faithfully for over 20 years until his health started to decline.
Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Spencer; sisters, Bertha Johnson and Mary Ross; and brothers, John R. Spencer and Frank Spencer.
Surviving are: his daughters, Dorothy Spencer Williams (James) of Disputanta, Anita Michelle Henry of Hopewell and Talitha Williams of Dinwiddie; four grandchildren, Le Tee Williams, LeVar Williams, Edward Donnell Williams and Georgianna Henry; three great grandchildren, two step grandchildren; two step sons, Linwood Lanes of Petersburg and Anthony Sears of Apex, NC; sisters, Mabel Barnes and Vernell Morton of Charlotte, Court House; three brothers-in-law, Linwood Long, Frank Long and Leaonard Hill; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Longford (Raymond), Maxine Long, Anita Green and Maryland Hill (Leonard) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family would like to especially thank very devoted caregivers, Garlinda Crittendon and Calvin Young, Brenda Tucker, Carolyn Jones, Carolyn Banks and Jonathan Weaver.
There will be a wake from 6 to 7pm Thursday evening, November 3, 2011 at the chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Mrs. Corine H. Westbrook
(Died November 3, 2011)
Mrs. Corine Hall Westbrook, age 82, affectionately called Mother Westbrook, of 5108 Alberene Road, Richmond, who was loved by everyone who knew her, went to be with the Lord November 3, 2011.
She was born and raised in Southampton County, VA where she attended public school.
She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert Hall and Lula Jones Hall, her husband, Mr. Jack Westbrook and a son, Milton Wayne Westbrook.
She retired from Chippenham Manor after 17 years of service. Corine was an active member of Gods Holy Tabernacle of Love, (Rev Larry Neblett, Eulogist) where she served faithfully as the “Mother of the Church”.
Her hobbies and interests included going to church, singing, shopping, and eating out.
She devoted most of time and energy into loving her Lord, her family, and her friends. No holiday was complete without Momma’s homemade rolls, collard greens, sweet potato and coconut pies.
She leaves to cherish her memory: seven children, Wilson McCoy Westbrook (Celestine), Curnell Melvin Westbrook (Hulda), Nathan Westbrook, Deborah Dianne Neblett (Larry), Sheila McNair, Lloyd Danny Westbrook (Pamela), and Malcolm Craig Westbrook; two grandchildren she raised as her own, Kenneth and Tacita; eight siblings, Rosa Parham, Rueben Hall (Hester), Dorothy Key (Claude), and Shirley Davis, four preceded her in death, Frank, Winnie, and Herbert Jr. and Mary Brooks; six brothers-in-law, four preceded her in death and three sisters-in-law, all who preceded her in death. Corine was surrounded with love from 27 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday November 9, 2011 at the Richmond Christian Center, located at 214 Cowardin Avenue, Richmond, VA. Interment will follow at Calvary Baptist Church, Yale, Va. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, November 8, 2011. The family is asked to assemble at 9:15AM at the church on the day of the service.

Mr. Donald West-Bey
(Died October 25, 2011)
Mr. Donald West-Bey, 75, of 11901 Centennial Road, Prince George, departed this life on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Johnston Willis Thomas Johns Cancer Center at Johnston Willis Hospital, Richmond.
He was born on March 21, 1936 to the late Leroy and Reather West-Bey in Detroit, Michigan. Donald graduated from Disputanta Training School and worked as a machine operator at Plant Food for many years.
Donald was a member of the Moorish Science Temple of America, Prince George.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Renzellus West-Bey, Fecil West-Bey and Levi West-Bey.
Left to cherish his memory are: two brothers, Fred West-Bey, Sr. (Vivian) and Elihu West-Bey; four sisters, Claudette Bolling (James), Marguerite West-Bey, Fatima West-Bey and Salome Creighton-Bey (Wilson); and a host of several other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Moorish Science Temple #1, Prince George. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 12:30 p.m. at the Temple.

Ms. Mary Wade
(Died October 26, 2011)
Mrs. Mary Rosa Wade, 66, of 913 Perrymont Road, Hopewell, departed this life on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Hopewell Health Care Center.
She was born on May 13, 1945 to the late Charlie Lee Davis and Mary Valentine Davis White.
She was educated in the Halifax Public School System and graduated from Mary M. Bethune High School. Afterwards she moved to Queens, New York to begin her career. Professionally, Mrs. Wade worked as a supervisor at AT&T; and retired after 30 years of dedicated service.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the White Oak Grove Baptist Church in Sutherland. After her retirement, she relocated to Hopewell and became a member of First Baptist Church City Point where she faithfully served on the Deaconess Board until her health declined.
Mrs.Wade was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Davis Whitlock.
Left to cherish her precious memories are: her loving and devoted husband of 41 years, Ernest Wade; a son, Wendell Wade of Hopewell; one daughter, Monique Cogdell (Jerry) of Danville; four brothers, Charlie Roy Davis, John Robert Davis, James Dudley Davis and Granville C. Davis; a sister, Annie Ruth Richardson; three grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011 at First Baptist Church City Point, Hopewell, with the pastor, Rev. Dr. Rudolph Dunbar officiating.
