Irving D. Duck
SUFFOLK — Irving Daughtrey Duck, 89, died Oct. 5, 2008, at his home.
Born in Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late Crawley and Bessie A. Duck, widower of Etta Wright Duck and brother of the late Mary Elizabeth Moore Margaret Sue Duck, William C. Duck, Glaspa Duck, and Garland Duck.
Mr. Duck was a member of First Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons for thirty five years, was elected lifetime deacon in 1993, was a former Sunday school teacher for the young people for 25 years, a greeter and usher for more than 50 years, bus driver for more than 20 years, and member of many different committees.
He was a charter member of the Suffolk Chapter 4030 of the AARP and a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his daughters, Patsy Murphy of Cumming, Ga., Christine Moon and husband Sam of Franklin; grandchildren, Kathy Sumpter of Cumming, Ga., Nancy Lynn Duck of Carrsville and Robin Elizabeth Davis Suffolk.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church by the Revs. Charles Thompson and John Watson with burial in Holly Lawn cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral & Crematory today from 10 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 9 p.m.

Stella G. Acey
FRANKLIN — Stella Lassiter Grady Acey, 87, died Oct. 4, 2008, at her residence.
She was born in Sunbury, N.C., the only child of Charles W. and Lucy Jones Lassiter.
Mrs. Acey was predeceased by two husbands, Lloyd Alton Grady and Henry Oscar Acey, and a son, Bruce Warren Grady.
A graduate of Sunbury schools, she was retired from Pruden Meat Packing, and A&P; Tea Company.
She was an avid cook and gardener. She was a member of Burdette Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy G. Gatje and husband Carl of Norfolk; a son, Robert C. Grady and wife Faye of Suffolk; a beloved friend, Melvin Crumpler of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Julie Burgess, Jean Farrell, Carol Brandt, Cathy Grady, Amy Santamaria, Mary Mudd, and Buddy Mudd; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at Burdette Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Cribb officiating.
Interment followed in Cedar Hill cemetery, Suffolk.

Katherine Milteer Bolton
December 08, 1923 - June 25, 2011
Branchville – Katherine Milteer Bolton, 87, widow of Thomas Quinton Bolton, passed away June 25, 2011 at Courtland Healthcare Center. She was born in Nansemond County, a daughter of the late Jethro Thomas and Mary Taylor Milteer, and was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Mann and two brothers, Newman Milteer and Thomas Milteer, Jr. Mrs. Bolton was retired from the U. S. Postal Service in Branchville and attended Boykins Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Neal T. Bolton and wife, Susan of Gasburg and Leon W. Bolton and wife, Amy, of Boykins; two grandchildren, Michael Bolton (Jessica) and Thomas Bolton; one great-grandchild, Makenna Lynn Bolton; one sister, Evie Fowler of Franklin and one brother, Johnny Milteer of Springfield, TN.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Beechwood cemetery in Boykins with the Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm today (Monday) at the Boykins Chapel of Wright Funeral Home and suggests that memorials be made to Boykins Baptist Church, P. O. Barbara P. Camp
CHARLOTTESVILLE — Barbara Pease Camp, 77, died Oct. 3, 2008, at her residence.
Mrs. Camp was born April 15, 1931 in Buffalo, N.Y.
She was the daughter of the late Charles and Eunice Pease. She attended Syracuse University in New York and was an outstanding horsewoman.
She was the 1948 National Champion Equestrian Good Hands Medal and Maclay Medal winner and founder and President of the Virginia Pony Breeders Association.
She owned and showed the 1960 national high point horse “Sunset Hill.”
With her husband, Clay, Barbara worked as an agent at the Saratoga Yearling Sale, selling many of the top yearlings, including the record high price yearling at the Saratoga Sales in 1975 and 1984, a record sale that still holds today.
She served as a navigator on her husband’s U.S.E.T. combined driving team in three World Championships held in England, the Netherlands and Germany.
She was inducted into the Virginia Horse Show Association Hall of Fame.
Barbara and Clay owned and restored Glenmore Farms near Charlottesville and Highview Farm in Nelson County.
She received an award from the Adirondack Architectural Society for her work restoring several historical old camps in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.
She enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether gardening or fishing or just taking a walk in the woods.
She enjoyed her trips to the Florida Keys and her summers spent in the Adirondacks.
Survivors include her husband Clay Camp, Charlottesville; daughter Bunny Gibbons and Joel also of Charlottesville; a son Jeff Camp and Jennifer of Park City, Utah; two step-children, Page Camp and Clay Camp and Gail, all of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; brother-in-law, William Camp and sister-in-law Shirlie Camp of Franklin; and her very special friends, Beverly Ensor of Philadelphia, Pa. and Shelby Rasson of Charlottesville.
There will be a private memorial held at a later date.

Bobby C. Breeden
September 13, 1926 - June 03, 2011
Bobby C Breeden, of Charlottesville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 3, 2011, at the Colonnades. Bobby was born in Charlottesville, September 13, 1926, to Carl and Anna Breeden, and was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Joyce Breeden, and his nephew, Keith Hildebrand. He was a life member of the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad and of VFW Post 74, and served his country in the United States Air Force.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Dorothy Breeden; his son, Barry C. Breeden and Renee of Charlottesville; son Toby M. Breeden and Suzanne, of Charlottesville; and daughter Beverly B. Birckhead and Rocky, of Keswick. He is also survived by grandchildren Allen Birckhead III and Crystal, John Birckhead and Becky, Remington Birckhead, Rebecca Breeden, Emily Breeden, Keely Breeden, and Hunter Breeden; a great granddaughter Allison Elizabeth Birckhead; sister Joanne Hildebrand and Ed; brother Arnold Breeden; and nephews Montie Breeden, Kevin Hildebrand and Duane Breeden. Bobby will be missed by his family and friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Martha Jefferson Hospital, the staff at the Colonnades and the Hospice of the Piedmont for their care and concern.
The family will receive friends at Hill and Wood Funeral Home, 201 North 1st, Charlottesville, on Monday, June 6, from 6 pm to 8 pm. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 7, at 10 am, at the Alliance Bible Church, at the corner of Rio Road and Old Brook Road. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Richard Rodney “Rick” Tighe
Richard Rodney “Rick” Tighe quietly passed away on June 30, 2004, at his much loved home in Eclipse, after a short, valiant battle with cancer.
A native of Newport News, VA, raised in Powhatan, VA and a resident of Eclipse for many years, he was proceeded in death by his father, Otis C. Bailey of Eclipse, mother Margeret I. Fairless of Newport News and his forever “girlfriend” Biscuit.
A loving husband, father and friend, he is survived by his wife, Holly Burch-Tighe of Eclipse; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Tory Batten of California; son, Adam Tighe of Rushmere; step-daughters, Ashley and Lindsay Molnar of Suffolk; cherished grandchildren, Tristan, Sheyenne and Cherokee Batten of California; his dad, Jim Tighe; brothers, Steven and John Tighe; sister and brother-in-law, Nina and John White, all of Powhatan, VA; uncle and aunt, David and Minta Bailey of Deltaville. He leaves to miss him terribly his “pack”, Basil, Blue, Heidi and Eclipse.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. on July 2 at Mt. Zion cemetery at Eclipse. Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel is serving the family.
Georgia Ann Culpepper Saunders
Georgia Ann Culpepper Saunders, 79, of Chuckatuck, died September 17, 2004.
A native of Suffolk, VA, she was the wife of Turpin Algernon (Al) Saunders, Jr., and they were honored as the First Citizens of Suffolk in 1996. Mrs. Saunders graduated from Chuckatuck High School, 1942, attended Madison College and completed the Obici School of Nursing LPN program in 1973. She was a member of Oakland Christian Church and its Johnson-Newman Sunday School Class. She also belonged to the Village Garden Club, Junto Women’s Club and Book Club. Over the years she had volunteered for the Red Cross, the Chuckatuck Library, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Frank and Bessie M. Culpepper; brother, J. Frank Culpepper, Jr. and sister, Jean C. Holland.
Survivors include her children, Mary Elizabeth Williams and husband Jesse Williams, Ann Marks Saunders, Paul Saunders and wife Pam Saunders, Douglas Saunders, all of Suffolk, Kathy Jo Whitten and husband Fred Whitten of Richmond; grandchildren, Jesse A. and Georgiana Brooke Williams, James Saunders, Geoff, Katie and Jay Whitten; sister, Elizabeth C. Holland of Midlothian, VA; brother, Sullie Culpepper of Salisbury, MD.

Jerry Pierce Powell
Jerry Pierce Powell, 59, died October 4, 2004 in Obici Hospital.
Born October 10, 1944, in Suffolk, she is the daughter of Mary Eley Pierce and the late Gibson J. Pierce. Mrs. Powell was the medical Staff Director at Obici Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church, Past President of the American Cancer Society, Suffolk Unit, and an Athena Award winner in 2002. The “Jerry Powell Walking Trail”, a memorial walk was named for Jerry at Obici Hospital, and Providence United Methodist Church donated a bench to Red Bird Mission in Kentucky in Jerry’s name.
Survivors include her mother, Mary E. Pierce of Suffolk; husband, Bennie F. Powell Jr., of Suffolk; son, Brian David Powell and wife Kelly of Suffolk; sisters, Janet P. Eure, and Bobbie P. Piland and husband Frank all of Suffolk; brother R. Percy Pierce and wife Josephine of Suffolk; granddaughter Meghan Powell; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley Zeigler Wallace
Shirley Zeigler Wallace, 84, died January 2, 2005.
Born May 15, 1920, in Rocky Mount, VA, she was the daughter of the late Beverly Brad and Mildred Cooney Zeigler, widow of Douglas Dee Wallace, Sr. and mother of the late Douglas Dee Wallace, Jr., and Barbara Wallace Shelton.
Mrs. Wallace was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and for thirty-five years served in the Suffolk City School system as a teacher and guidance counselor.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kay Wallace Best and G. Lewis Best, Jr., of Richmond; sister, E. J. Grimes of Frederick, MD; brother, Richard Zeigler of Belpre, OH; grandchildren, George Lewis Best, III, Anne Best Barker, Douglas Dee Wallace, III, Charles Christopher Shelton, Mathew Palmer Wallace, Clifton Shawn Shelton; four great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sandra Nunn Wallace of South Boston; son-in-law, Clyde C. Shelton of Virginian Beach.

Annie Sue Smith
Annie Sue Smith, 99, passed away on July 4, 2004.
Born October 15, 1904, in Gates County NC, she was the daughter of the late Munford and Virginia Howell and widow of Willie Melvin Smith Sr. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.
Survivors include her two sons W. Melvin Smith Jr. and wife Leola, and Earl Smith and wife Glenda; two granddaughters Arlene Smith and Lisa Tarkington and husband Steve; two great granddaughters Tori and Ginger Tarkington, all of Suffolk; and one great niece Judy Blankenship.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday in the R. W. Baker& Co. Funreal Home and Crematory by the Rev. Johnathan Palmer. Goldie Byrum Turner
Goldie Byrum Turner, 93, died September 17, 2004, at Obici Hospital.
Born May 16, 1911, in Cisco, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Richard and Abbie Twine Byrum and widow of George Fenton Turner and mother of the late George F. Turner, Jr. Mrs. Turner was a member of First Baptist Church, the Women’s Missionary Union and the Kathi Thomas Circle.
Survivors include her daughter, and son-in-law, Patricia Turner and James H. Deaton; brother, Lloyd S. Byrum, of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Alicia Beth Turner, S. Mark Turner, Deborah Turner Condry, James H. Deaton, Jr.; six great grandchildren; devoted daughter-in-law, Alice S. Turner of Chattanooga, TN.
