James Adron Viers, age 84, passed away unexpectedly at Caro Community Hospital on Monday, June 8, 2009.
Jim was born July 11, 1924 in Martha Gap, Va., the son of the late Issac Patterson and Bessie Bell (Sykes) Viers.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Ronald C. Wigand officiating.
Burial with Military Honors conducted by the Caro VFW Post #4164 and the U.S. Navy followed at the Indianfields Township cemetery in Caro.

Kitty Sue Counts, age 60, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Shands Hospital at Starke following an extended illness.
Kitty was a native of Haysi but had resided in Hollister for the past 30 years.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Patton Willis cemetery, Haysi, Va., with Pastor Danny Sluss officiating.

Laura Inez Mullins departed this life on Tuesday, June 16, 2009.
She was born April 6, 1928, in Dickenson County, where she lived all of her life.
She was a member of Flemingtown Freewill Baptist Church and a graduate of Bluefield Business College.
Funeral services for Laura Inez Mullins will be conducted at 11 a.m.. Thursday, June 19, 2009 from the Clilntwood Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Lester Mullins officiating.
Burial will follow in the Willis Family cemetery on Georges Fork.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Wednesday with a song service to follow at 7 p.m. with Gospel Express Singers.

Lawrence Cline Mullins, age 59, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009. He lived most of his life in Dickenson County and was a member of Buffalo Freewill Baptist Church.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 6 p.m. in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 1 p.m. with Darrell Milgrim officiating.
He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill cemetery located on Big Ridge in Clintwood, Va.

Samantha Shortridge, 87, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, with her brother Elbert and her family by her side.
Born April 2, 1924 in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Crecey Fuller Shortridge.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Virginia Funeral Home Chapel in Grundy with Andy Deel officiating.
Burial followed in the Shortridge cemetery, Haysi.
A service was held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Charles “Eddie” Adams, Sr., 60, of Big Stone Gap, passed away Sunday (May 18, 2008) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap.
Family received friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Holding Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Roy Smith officiating.
Military rites, by the U.S. Army National Guard Honor Team and local V.F.W. and D.A.V. organizations, was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at American Legion cemetery.

Helen Mae Kirk, 88, passed away Thursday (May 15, 2008) at her Indianapolis, Ind. residence, after a long battle with heart failure.
The daughter of Nicholas Rhea Bartley and Virgia J. (Napier) Bartley of Dryden, Helen was born October 1919.
She attended Deep Springs School and worked in the lunch room.
Funeral services were held at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Services and Crematory, Southport Chapel, Indianapolis, Ind., Saturday, May 17, at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor John Dunway officiating.

Margaret Ann Stone Kauffman, passed away Thursday (May 8, 2008).
She was born on July 9, 1927 in Big Stone Gap to Thurston and Mae Stone.
She graduated from Madison College, married
Jay G. Kauffman in 1950, lived in Pennington Gap, where she taught science at the high school.

Roderick Lee Tate, 77, passed away Thursday (May 15, 2008) at his home.
He was a native of East Stone Gap, lived in Berea, Ky. for 19 years and had lived in Big Stone Gap since 1985.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the church sanctuary with Dr. M.C. Tolbert, The Rev. Ronnie Mutter and The Rev. Randy Osborne officiating.

Ruth Ellen Shupe Wells, 69, of the Seminary Community, passed away Friday (May 16, 2008) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap.
She lived and farmed in Lee County for many years and was of Baptist faith.
Family received friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Holding Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment was in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
AILENE POWERS WADDELL
Ailene Powers Waddell, 75, of Gray, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Sunday (Sept. 21, 2008) at her residence.
Born in Big Stone Gap, Ailene had lived in Florida for several years before moving to Gray in 2001.
She was an avid Nascar and Florida State Fan.
Calling hours will be Thursday (Sept. 25, 2008) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport, Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with The Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.
Burial will follow at Holston View cemetery, Weber City. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
