Eureka Cleo (Susie) Williams, 65, born in Appalachia, Nov. 27, 1942, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2008) at Johnson City Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home Chapel with Glenda Flanary officiating.
The family received friends at the funeral home services.
Graveside services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion cemetery.
LOYD JOE ROGERS
Loyd Joe Rogers, 68, of Big Stone Gap, passed away Monday (Jan. 21, 2008) at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., following an extended illness.
He was born in Jasper and had lived in Big Stone Gap for the past 39 years.
He was a retired truck driver with the former V & V Mining in Big Stone Gap, with 33 years of service. He was a Christian.
PHYLLIS LYNN DALTON
Phyllis Lynn Massingill Dalton, 63, of Big Stone Gap, passed away at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn., Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2008).
The family received friends Friday, Jan. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap.
Funeral services were at the Christian Life Church, Big Stone Gap, Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mike Dalton, Rev. James Holcomb and Rev. Kyle Beverly officiating.
MADGE BRUMMITT HENSLEY
Madge Brummitt Hensley, 79, of Norton, went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2008) at Mountain View Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of Wilson Chapel Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home.
Funeral services followed at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Randy Sturgill officiating.
Graveside committal services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home to travel in procession to the cemetery.
SIDNEY BRUMMITT DARNELL
Sidney Brummitt Darnell, 83, of Wise, died Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2008) in Mountain View Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Dorchester, to the late Bill and Ruth Brummitt Darnell.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.
Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Cliff Bowman officiating.
Graveside committal services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in the Highland cemetery.
Family and friends will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to travel in procession to the cemetery.
WILLIAM CARL WAMPLER
William Carl Wampler, 86, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2008) at his home on Guest River in Wampler Hollow, Norton.
Born to the late Orbin and Minnie Wampler, he was of the Pentecostal faith.
The family will receive friends Friday from noon until 2 p.m. at the Hagy and Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.
Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Hunsucker officiating.
Burial will follow in the Wampler Family cemetery on Guest River.
JEFF (J.D.) GARDNER JR.
Jeff (J.D.) Gardner Jr., 72, passed away Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2008) at his residence in Unionville. He was a former resident of Norton.
Mr. Gardner was of the Baptist faith, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired driver for UPS.
He was a 1955 graduate of J.J. Kelly High School where he lettered in both baseball and football.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Guest River Pentecostal Church in Norton, with Rev. Darrell Bolling officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon until time of services at the church.
Burial will follow in the Gardner Family cemetery in Norton, (Union Hall Road).
ALFREDIA BROWN
Alfredia Brown, 48, died Saturday (Feb. 28, 2009) at her residence in Norton.
A former resident of Augusta, Ga. she had made her home in Norton since 2006.
The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the Norton United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Ken Taylor officiating.
DENNIS WAYNE HOLBROOK
Dennis Wayne Holbrook, 60, of Coeburn, died Friday (Feb. 27, 2009) at Mountain View Medical Center in Norton.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Sunday March 1, at Estes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Killion officiating.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, at Temple Hill Memorial Park.
Visitation was held prior to services on Sunday.
JAMES ‘EDDIE’ HILL
James “Eddie” Hill, 45, born Feb. 18, 1964, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday (Feb. 27, 2009).
The family received friends Monday, March 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap.
Funeral services followed in the chapel of the funeral home at 7 p.m. with Pastor Nellie Garrett officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap.

Johnny Mack Clark, 60, passed away on Thursday (Feb. 26, 2009) at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greeneville, S.C.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Wayne Miller officiating.
Military Graveside Rites were conducted by local veterans groups and the Army National Guard.

Peggy Ann Stapleton Stanley, 68, of Coeburn, passed away Sunday (March 1, 2009) in a Norton hospital following a long and valiant fight against cancer.
