BERTHA MAE LOONEY COWDEN
Bertha Mae Looney Cowden, 87, of Coeburn, died Tuesday (June 20, 2006) at Angel Medical Center in Franklin, N.C.
Visitation was held on Thursday, June 22, at Estes Funeral Home.
Funeral service were held at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, with Rev. R.L. Crawford officiating.

HAZEL BEVINS FRANKS
Hazel Ann Bevins 'Annie' Franks, 63, of Coeburn, died Saturday (June 24, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.
Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Knight, Rev. John McCarroll, and Mr. Jeff Reynolds officiating.
Graveside burial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Greenwood cemetery in Coeburn.

CLINT “SHOVEL” BLANTON
Clint “Shovel” Blanton, 89, passed away Monday (August 20, 2007) at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.
Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Paul Floyd officiating.
Committal services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home to go in procession.

JERRY L. GARDNER
Jerry L. Gardner, age 56, of Nashville, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly Monday (August 13, 2007).
Jerry was born and raised in Big Stone Gap.
Born October 28, 1950, he is preceded in death by his father, Lyle “Jack” Gardner.
The family received visitors and friends Thursday, August 16, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Cheek House at the First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Road.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with a family graveside service immediately following.

JOHN COLMAN KEDZIERSKI
John Colman Kedzierski, 58, of Sandwich, Ill., began his heavenly journey peacefully at home Saturday (August 11, 2007) in the arms of his loving wife, Carol.
Funeral services were held Aug. 15, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Plano, with Rev. Bruce Booher officiating.
Interment followed at Oak Ridge cemetery in Sandwich.
Visitation was Aug. 14, 2007, 4-8 p.m. at the Beverage Family Funeral Home, Sandwich Chapel.

KENNETH ALLEN
Kenneth Allen, 63, of Wise, passed away Monday (June 26, 2006) at his home.
He was a retired coal miner from Paramont Coal Co.
At Mr. Allen's request his body was donated to science.
Arrangements by Sturgill Funeral Homes in Wise.

ANTHONY KEITH
Anthony McCall Keith, 39, of Coeburn, died Thursday (June 15, 2006) at Norton Community Hospital, Norton.
He was born in Clintwood, son of the late L.C. Keith.
He was a 1985 graduate of Coeburn High School, Coeburn.

BARBARA SUE STARNES
Barbara Sue Starnes, 58, of Duffield, died Monday evening (June 12, 2006) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine hospital in Big Stone Gap.
She was a daughter of the late Cecil and Ollie Stacey and was employed by WAXM Radio as an account executive and assisted with equipment maintenance.

BRYAN L. MCCONNELL
Bryan Lowery McConnell, 63, of Coeburn, died Thursday (June 15, 2006) at Greystone Health Care Center in Blountville, Tenn.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.

JAMES C. DEZARN
James Clayton DeZarn, 78, of Big Stone Gap, passed away Sunday morning (June 18, 2006) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap.
Mr. DeZarn was a lifelong resident of the area.
He was a former Marine and had worked on the railroad.

JEWEL A. WEATHERLY
Jewel Audrey Weatherly, went to be with the Lord Monday (June 12, 2006).
She was a member of Open Door Church and a foster grandparent Newport Grammar School, known and loved by all as Granny.

MARGARET (NANNY) POTTER
Margaret W. Potter, 78, passed away Wednesday (June 14, 2006) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.
Margaret (Nanny) was a loving wife of 57 years and a devoted mother of five sons.

MARY RUTH GIBSON COVEY
Mary Ruth Gibson Covey, a native of Appalachia, died at the age of 82 at her Chancellor's Village residence in Fredericksburg on Sunday (June 11, 2006).

MILDRED E. JASTRUMSKE
Mildred E. Jastrumske, 84, of Big Stone Gap, passed away Saturday (June 17, 2006) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital.
Mildred lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Big Stone Gap.

PHILIP GILBERT BURGIN
Philip Gilbert Burgin, 53, of Woodway was born in Richmond, Ind. on Monday, April 20, 1953 and passed away Thursday (June 15, 2006) at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap.

REV. ROBERT HAROLD 'WHITEY' ROACH
Rev. Robert Harold 'Whitey' Roach, 78, of Duffield, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday (June 14, 2006) at Brian Center in Weber City.

FANNIE HAY
Fannie Hay, 102, passed away at her home Monday morning, June 19, 2006.
She was born June 2, 1904 and had lived all of her life in Dickenson County.
She lived a long and fulfilling life while here on earth.

HELEN B. RASNICK
Helen Beartrice Rasnick, 71, of Caney Ridge, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 17, 2006.
She was born September 12, 1934, the daughter of Greatheal and Ruth Clay.

MAGGIE P. LANE
Maggie Potter Lane, 42, passed away Friday, June 16, 2006 at Johnson City Medical Center.
The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel where a service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
