OKEY BAKER

Okey Mae Marshall Baker, 80, of Norton, died Friday (May 5, 2000) at Cambridge House, Bristol, Tenn.

Mrs. Baker was a devoted homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Baker; her parents, Rufus and Julie Bice Marshall; one son, Frankie Carl Baker; four brothers, Cecil Marshall, Elbert Marshall, Aubrey Marshall and Lester Marshall; one sister, Nell Adkins; and one grandson, Jeffrey Baker.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Freddy and Glenda McCoy Baker of Kingsport, Tenn.; sister, Mary Angeline Viers of Bristol, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Robert Baker and Melanie Couch.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sturgill Funeral Home chapel, Wise with the Rev. Charles Baker officiating. Burial followed in the Baker cemetery, Pound

JOHN D. BALDWIN

John Dennis Baldwin, 61, of Clinchco, died Tuesday (May 2, 2000).

Mr. Baldwin was born in Buchanan county and had lived in Dickenson County for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 7170. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Baldwin was preceded in death by his father, John William Baldwin, his mother, Nancy Looney, his daughter, Delisa Jean Baldwin and his son, John Walter Baldwin.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and Homer Bowen of Clintwood, Andra and Mikie Wallace of Haysi, Teresa and Dave Bailey of West Virginia, Sherry and Wayne Deel of Birchleaf; sisters, Virginia Fleming of Sherwood, Ohio, Mae Maynard of Grundy, Sue Harding of Wise; brothers, Douglas Baldwin, Don Baldwin and Paul Baldwin all of Grundy and Harold Baldwin of Bent Mountain; grandchildren, Lee, Kayla and LaRae Bowen, Aaron and Joshua Wallace, Sara and Katelyn Bailey and Elaina Baldwin.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Mullins Funeral Home chapel, Clintwood with clergymen Leon Sykes, Glenn Sykes and Darrell Milgrim officiating. Burial will follow in the Baldwin-Lambert cemetery, Rt. 1, Clintwood. Military graveside services will be held by D.A.V. Chapter 35, V.F.W. Post 8979 and American Legion Post 227.

Pallbearers will be Roger Ramey, Ervin Turner, Joe Ramey, Victor Wallace, Tommy Mullins and Jerry Dale Fleming. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Wallace, Josh Wallace, Lee Bowen, Randy Harding and sons-in-law.

Calling hours are after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where a song service will be held at 7 p.m.

MARGARET S. CANTRELL

Margaret Slemp Cantrell, 69, of Pound, died Monday (May 8, 2000) at Norton Community Hospital.

Mrs. Cantrell was born in Dickenson County on Jan. 26, 1931. She was a homemaker and a retired clerk from the Federated Store in Pound. She was a member of the Fairview Old Regular Baptist Church for over 40 years.

Mrs. Cantrell was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Slemp Sr. and Jessie Yates Slemp; brother, Earl Slemp Jr.; sisters, Faye Large and Norma Cantrell.

Survivors include her husband, Carson Cantrell; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Kevin Phipps of Jonesborough, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Lisa Cantrell of Pound; sisters, Marie Vanover of Kingsport, Tenn., Janie Meade of Piney Flats, Tenn., Betty Browning of Appalachia, Judy Cantrell of Wytheville, Eva Jo Roberson, Tiny Hess, Patsy Baker, Sally Cantrell, Jill Collier and Ann Taylor, all of Pound; brother, Jimmy Slemp of Pound; granddaughters, Amanda and Samantha Cantrell and Brittany Phipps; grandson, James Carson Cantrell; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are after 6 p.m. Tuesday at Carty Funeral Home of Norton-Wise, and after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairview Old Regular Baptist Church in Pound where an evening service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may call anytime at the residence.

Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church with Elders Trinkle Mullins and Willie Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Mullins cemetery in Pound. Pallbearers will be nephews.

Colonial Funeral Home in Weber City and Carty Funeral Home of Norton-Wise are in charge of arrangements.

DARLETTA M. COLLIER

Darletta Moraine Collier, 60, of Norton, died Sunday (May 7, 2000) in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.

Mrs. Collier was born in Colorado and had made her home in the Wise and Norton areas for the past several years.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Collier of Tacoma; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Ronnie Stidham of Tacoma; son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Robin Collier of Roanoke; grandsons, Jonathan Aaron Stidham of Tacoma and Dakota Jordan Collier of Roanoke; and granddaughter, Meghan Brooke Collier of Roanoke.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Estes Funeral Home chapel in Coeburn with the Revs. Bud Beverly and Greg Sergent officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.

NEOMA DINGUS

Neoma Dingus, of Coeburn, died Saturday (May 6, 2000) at St. Mary's Hospital in Norton.

Mrs. Dingus was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee and Nellie Anderson Shouse; a son, Robert Shouse.

Survivors include her husband, Emmitt "Stud" Dingus; daughters, Shirley Kilgore of Bristol, Tenn., Frances Reeves and Janice Reeves, both of Wise, Peggy Harvey of Coeburn; sons, Buford Lundy of Aurora, Ill., Roger Lundy and Ronnie Dameron, both of Coeburn; 31 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Estes Funeral Home chapel in Coeburn with the Rev. Allen Shupe officiating. Burial will follow in the Dingus cemetery in Coeburn.

PATSY B. EVERHART

Patsy Bradley Everhart, 59, of Lexington, N.C., died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) in Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem after three years of declining health.

Mrs. Everhart was born in Knoxville, Tenn. on July 26, 1940 to Ralph E. and Ruth Marie Dye Bradley. She was preceded in death by her father, and a daughter, Pam Nard.

She was a member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Guy W. Everhart; son, Greg Nard and wife, Dee Wilfong of Concord, N.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, Suzy and Jeff Patterson, Shannon and Reggie Moorefield, all of Lexington, Tammy and Jeff Shives of Salisbury; grandchildren, Jonathan Shives and Crystal Shives both of Salisbury, Jessica Patterson, Jotham Hunt, Brittany Moorefield and Christian Moorefield all of Lexington; her mother, Ruth Marie Dye Bradley; brothers, Freddie Bradley of Norton and Ralph "Butch" Bradley of Big Stone Gap; nieces and nephews, Nathan Bradley, Allison Bradley and Claree Bradley, all of Big Stone Gap and Shasta Bradley and Danaka Stevens, both of Norton.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6 at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Lowell Askins officiating. Burial followed in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Davidson County Cancer Services, 1210-H Colony Court, S. Main Street, Lexington, N.C. 27292.

JUANITA GARDNER

Juanita Gardner, 76, of Norton, died Monday (May 8, 2000) at her home on Guest River Road.

Mrs. Gardner was a lifelong resident of Wise County and Norton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orbin and Minnie Brock Wampler; and her husband James H. Gardner; sisters, Marie Gardner Heath and Mabelline G. Brummitt.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Roger and Paula Gardner; grandson, Roger Gardner Jr. of Norton; brothers, Carl Wampler and Eugene Wampler, both of Norton.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Hagy Funeral Home chapel, Norton with the Rev. Roy Kyle Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Wampler family cemetery near Norton.

Calling hours are from 6 - 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

VERSIE C. GREENE

Versie C. Greene, 84, of Clintwood, died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at Heritage Hall Health Care Center in Clintwood.

Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Greene; three brothers, and five sisters.

She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include sister, Violet Wagnor of Lanora, W. Va.; several nieces and nephews; also her special adopted family, the Rife's, Lillian, Danny, Donnie, Buddy, Gene and Doug.

A memorial Mass was celebrated at Saint Joseph Catholic Church Sunday with clergy Bob Rademacher and Edna Maier officiating.

The cremains of Mrs. Greene will be scattered at a later date.

JAMES D. McARTHUR

James Donald McArthur, 74, of Lampasas, Texas, died Sunday (May 7, 2000) at the Lampasas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. McArthur was born in Norton, May 16, 1925. He worked in the dairy industry as a processor and was a World War II veteran serving in the 2nd Service Signal battalion. He was of the Protestant faith.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Vrablee McArthur and his second wife, Mary Catherine Walker McArthur; his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

Survivors include brothers, Tommy Eugene McArthur of Norton and Edward Clarence McArthur of Buchanan; sisters, Sarah Sue McArthur Lawson of Norton, Wanda June McArthur Bates of Tacoma and Mildred Ann McArthur Bates of Lampasas.

Services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Saint John the Baptist cemetery in Allentown, Penn.

Kohut Funeral Home in Allentown is in charge of arrangements.

JOAN M. McCOY

Joan M. McCoy, 69, of Coeburn, died Thursday (May 4, 2000) in the Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.

Mrs. McCoy was the daughter of the late Basil and Maggie Hylton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Orbra L. McCoy Sr. and a son, Orbra "Junior" L. McCoy Jr.

She was a retired LPN for the Wise Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Survivors include daughter, Johnnie Steele of Coeburn; brother, Fred Everette Hylton of Coeburn; sisters, Alpha Pettit of Coeburn and Nina Kiser of Norton; grandchildren, Rhonda Gay Steele of Coeburn and Brian Anthony Kittel of Johnson City, Tenn.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sturgill Funeral Home chapel, Coeburn with speaker Nancy Turner officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.

CHARLIE C. MULLINS

Charlie C. Mullins, 84, of Pound, died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at Norton Community Hospital, Norton.

Mr. Mullins was a retired carpenter and a member of Calvery Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxie Lee Bolling Mullins; one son, Charles L. Mullins; one daughter, Henritta Mullins; his parents, Charlie C. Mullins Sr. and Nannie Belle Polly Mullins.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon Kay Grubb of Clinchco, Linda Lea Reynolds of Peppa Passes, Ky., and Shelia Gail Mullins of Big Stone Gap; sons, Larry C. Mullins and Gary L. Mullins, both of Pound; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Ruby Caudill, Eolia, Ky., and Nannie Lee Shortt of Pound; brother, Herbert Mullins of Eolia; special friends, Paul and Martine Maggard of Eolia.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel of Baker Funeral Home, Pound with the Rev. Bob Mullins officiating. Burial followed in the Mullins Family cemetery, Eolia.

Pallbearers were family and friends.
