Esther "Mae" Gilbert McFaden
Esther "Mae" Gilbert McFaden, 88, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Henry Gilbert and the late Doris "Mac" McFaden. Born March 22, 1918 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Linwood Hall and the late Virginia Hicks Hall. In addition, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Rufus, Raleigh, Russell and Roy Hall and a sister, Gladys Hall. Mrs. McFaden retired from the General Electric Company after many years of service and was a member of Fairview Christian Church where she attended the Loyal Sons & Daughters Sunday School Class. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Powell Morris and husband Charles, and her son, Ross Gilbert and wife Vicky all of Lynchburg; two brothers, Boone Hall of Lynchburg and Neil Hall of Rustburg; five sisters, Lucille Lynch of Indianapolis, IN, Mary Childress and Delores Farris both of Lynchburg, and Wilmuth Nicholas and Erlene Morris both of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Ross Gilbert, Jr. and Chrissy, Jason Gilbert, Charles Morris, Cindy Jordan and Craig, and David Witt; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with the Rev. Carlton Dunn and Dr. Don Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at her daughter's home, 3429 Westbrook Circle, Lynchburg.

William Walter Chapman, Jr.
William Walter Chapman, Jr., 97 of 501 V.E.S. Road, died Tuesday May 20, 2003 at the Drinkard Health Care Center.
Born in Chestertown, Md., he was a son of the late William Walter Chapman, Sr. and Ella Valliant Chapman. He is survived by his wife Clare Elizabeth (Bets) Chapman of Lynchburg, his daughter Elizabeth Chapman Hooss and her husband H. J. Hooss of Forest, a sister Mary Theodosia Bowie of Towson, Md., as well as three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A brother, James W. Chapman of Baltimore, died in 1996.
Mr. Chapman, a graduate of the University of Maryland (BS) and of Columbia University (MA) was a retired Foreign Service Officer. He had served in the Department of State in Washington, D.C. as an Executive Assistant to four Assistant Secretaries of Administration and later as Associate Dean, School of Foreign Affairs of the Foreign Service Institute.
He also served overseas as a Foreign Service Inspector and as a Counselor of Administration at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, U.A.R. During World War II, he was a member of the Secretariat of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and of the U.S. Section of the Combined Chiefs of Staff attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He attended the International Conferences of Cario, Quebec, Malta, Yalta, and Potsdam. He was awarded the O.B.E. by the British Empire and the Superior Service Award by the Department of State. Mr. Chapman was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Forest, O.D.K., the Audubon Society, and numerous other organizations.
A graveside service and interment will be at the family plot in the cemetery at Chestertown, Md.

Blanche Belle Fuller Alderson
Blanche Belle Fuller Alderson, 86, of Madison Heights, and formerly Clifton Forge, died Monday, December 29, 2003 at The Carrington Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Harry Miller Alderson.
Born in Iron Gate, Virginia, June 30, 1917 she was a daughter of the late James Austin Fuller and Delia Bryant Fuller. She was retired from Super X Drugs in Clifton Forge and was a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church.
Nanny or “B B” as she was fondly known, will be remembered by her family and friends for her determination and sense of humor.
She is survived by her daughter, Harriette Sue Irvine and her husband Larry of Madison Heights; two brothers, Chester I. Fuller of Roanoke, James A. Fuller, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Fincastle; two sisters, Dorothy F. Miller of Mocksville, NC and Elizabeth F. Dudding of Eagle Rock and three grandchildren, Christopher Scott Irvine and his wife Marybeth of Apopka, Fla., Laurel Shannon Irvine and Kenzie Erin Irvine both of Madison Heights.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens by the Rev. L. Wayne Meredith.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at other times at the residence of her daughter, 104 Fernwood Drive, Madison Heights.

Brian Keith Cox
Brian Keith Cox, 32, of Rustburg, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2004.
Born Nov. 18, 1971, in Lynchburg, he is survived by his father, Joseph W. Cox Jr. of Lynchburg, his mother, Patricia Cox of Rustburg, and stepfather, Dennis Emerson of Altavista.
Brian was a 1989 graduate of Rustburg High School and was employed by Consumer Dorin Adams, where he worked as a sheet metal mechanic for 10 years. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Ernest G. Mattox and Mildred K. Mattox, and his paternal grandfather, Joseph W. Cox Sr.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Amber Dawn Cox and Dakota Keith Cox, both of Rustburg; sister, Angel L. Cox of Evington; brother, Billy W. Cox and wife, Julie, of Rustburg; two half brothers, Tracy Emerson and fiancé, Laura Clark, of Rustburg and Troy Emerson of Altavista; paternal grandmother, Inez Cox of Lynchburg; nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, from Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with the Rev. Gunter officiating. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

George P. Hicks
George P. Hicks, 83, of Monroe, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born January 15, 1921, in Salt Creek, VA, he was a son of the late Alfonzo and Maude Branham Hicks. Mr. Hicks attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Madison Heights. He was also a WW II Veteran having served in the National Guard and the Merchant Marines.
In addition to his parents, a daughter, Doris Elaine Irvin, three sisters and three brothers, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Rogers Hicks, as well as five children; Barney Alvin Hicks of Miami, FL, David L. Hicks and wife Ethel, Betty Jane Cruce and husband Mike, both of Perry, FL, Frances Ann Clark and Marvin Wayne Hicks both of Monroe; one brother, Lindy Hicks of Flemington, West VA; two sisters, Estelle Jones and Eva Applewhite both of Baltimore, MD, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Reverend Carolyn Wade and Reverend Larry Clark assisting. Interment will be in Roberts Family cemetery.

Helen Cash Booth
Helen Cash Booth, 63, of Lynchburg, died Monday, January 2, 2006 in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born May 8, 1942 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Forrest Leonard and Edith Campbell Cash. Mrs. Booth was a Realtor and a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and homemaker. She attended Tree of Life Ministries.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, F. Ray Cash.
Mrs. Booth is survived by two sons, Gregory W. Booth and his wife, Evelyn and Mark C. Booth and his wife, Vicky, all of Forest; two brothers, Millard C. Cash and his wife, Annie and Jim Cash and his wife, Faye, all of Madison Heights and six grandchildren, Ashley, Savannah, Alex, Denise, Julie, and Sidney.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Pastor J. Mike Dodson. Interment will follow in Amherst cemetery.

Mildred Miller Davis
Mildred Miller Davis, died at her home on November 7, 2006 in Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late Rev. Bailey Fulton Davis.
Born April 25, 1910 in Versailles, KY, she was the daughter of the late Pleasant G. and Emma Thurman Miller. She and her husband were the parents of four sons, John F. Davis, II and his wife, Joy of Virginia Beach, Bailey F. Davis of Williamsburg, Thurman B. Davis and his wife, Mary Gayle of Monroe, and Bernard B. Davis of Louisville, KY; four grandchildren, Ann Davis McManus of Virginia Beach, John F. Davis, III of Denver, CO, Elizabeth P. Rogers of Wilmington, NC, and Catherine B. Davis of Charleston, SC; five great-grandsons, Sean T. McManus and Conor B. McManus, of Virginia Beach, Grant E. Rogers, Bailey P. Rogers, and Miller M. Rogers, of Wilmington, NC and one brother, Clarence L. Miller of Shelbyville, KY.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Roy Miller.
Mildred graduated from Science Hill School, Shelbyville, KY, the oldest private college preparatory school in the South, (1825 – 1939). She went on to graduate from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA, with a degree in English Literature. She often recalled sitting in her father’s lap as he read from Dickens novels to her as a child. This helped kindle a love of literature and history that she nourished throughout her life.
Although Mildred loved her little Cape Cod home on Langhorne Road, she took full advantage of her wanderlust traveling abroad and throughout the United States. Her first teaching assignment was at St. Paul’s Mission School, (Monacan) in Amherst County. Her love of teaching and children continued for the next fifteen years, teaching second grade in Amherst County Schools.
Mildred was the loyal and willing helpmate to her late husband, when he served as Pastor of four Kentucky churches and the Amherst Baptist Church. She served on the Board of Child Care for Baptist Homes in Kentucky. She was also a former registrar of the Amherst Chapter of the D.A.R. and was a member of the Lynchburg Womans Club.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the Amherst Baptist Church by the Rev. John Gordon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Monacan Museum, Amherst County or the Amherst Baptist Church.

Mary Dickerson Suchodolski
Mary Dickerson Suchodolski, 77, of 1820 Hillsdale Road, died Thursday, May 1, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late David T. Suchodolski.
Born December 8, 1925 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Willie Alfred and Mary Eggleston Dickerson. Mary devoted her love for life to her family and is remembered for her loyalty, care, and knowledge throughout the nursing community. She was the Assistant Director of Nursing Services at Lynchburg General Hospital and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Dickerson Gowen.
Mary is survived by three sons, David L. Suchodolski and his wife, Beth and William V. Suchodolski, all of Lynchburg and Michael A. Suchodolski of Elon; three grandchildren, Michelle S. Cofer and her husband, Aaron, Jennifer L. Suchodolski, and Christopher David Suchodolski and one niece, Sonja Bailess of Madison Heights.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2003 at Holy Cross Catholic Church by the Rev. Monsignor J. Kenneth Rush. Interment will follow in Meade cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.

Ada Doris “Pat” Beckhardt Agetstein
Ada Doris “Pat” Beckhardt Agetstein, 89, of 117 Blackberry Road, Madison Heights, passed away July 14, 2004. She was the wife of Milton Agetstein for sixty-four years.
Born March 14, 1915 in Carroll County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Van Waggoner Beckhardt. Mrs. Agetstein was a retired registered nurse and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Madison Heights.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Patricia Lynne Reverski and her husband, Robert of Hazelton, West Virginia and Susan Rae Pickett and her husband, the Rev. John Pickett of Madison Heights; two brothers, Joseph Beckhardt of Billings, Montana and William Beckhardt of Chicago, IL, seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. John Pickett. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens, Amherst. Following the interment, the family will receive friends and loved ones in the Fellowship Hall at Grace Baptist Church.

Roy James Eggleston, Sr.
Roy James Eggleston, Sr. passed away Thursday November 4, 2004 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of
June Stephens Eggleston for 54 years.
Born May 22, 1933 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late George Cabell Eggleston and the late Mary Elizabeth “Mae” Campbell Eggleston.
He was employed at Glamorgan Pipe and Foundry Co. for 18 years. In 1972, he formed Eggleston Supply and Products, and was CEO until 1985 when he returned to the now Griffin Pipe Products Co. He retired from there in 1996. He served with the National Guard for 31 years and the Virginia Defense Force as an executive officer. He was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, serving as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Elders, Treasurer of both Sunday School and the church, and active in many other church activities. He was also a member of the American Foundrymens Society, serving as chairman, treasurer, and golf chairman for 30 years. He was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and Lynchburg General Hospital. Roy loved golf, and was a member of the London Downs Senior Golf Club.
In addition to his wife June, he is survived by two sons, Douglas W. Eggleston of Rustburg, and Roy “Jaye” Eggleston, Jr. and wife Cathy of Forest, two daughters, Dawn E. Fesler and husband John and Wanda E. Hamlet and husband Ronnie all of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren, Heather H. Litchford and fiancé, Chris Alto, Tiffany Rae Novilla and husband Gabriel, Matthew B. Eggleston and fiancée, Melissa Williams, Derek James Hamlet, Heidi H. Haney and husband Chase, Holly N. Eggleston and friend Ryan Carlton, Tara Dawn Fesler and “adopted ” granddaughter Melissa Woodard; two greatgrandchildren, Autumn Faith Litchford and Hunter Blake Litchford; a brother, George Cabell Eggleston, Jr. and wife Barbara of Goode; two sisters, Shirley E. Peters of Evington and Betty E. Brooks of Lynchburg; a host of other relatives and friends that are too numerous to list, but each held a special place in his heart. Family meant everything to Roy, and he will be sadly missed by all.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday November 8, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Ron Obenchain officiating.

Robert Hilton Burch, Jr.
Robert Hilton Burch, Jr., 55, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006 following a lengthy illness. Born January 12, 1951 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Robert H. Burch, Sr. and the late Cora Hendricks Burch. Robert was a computer programmer for Sentry Equipment Erectors, Inc., for 15 years before illness forced his retirement, and he was a member of Living Word Baptist Church. He is survived by his children, Christopher Burch of Roanoke, Rhonda Burch and her husband Charles Graboske of Richmond, Jessalyn Burch of Altavista; his sister, Kathleen Martin of Lynchburg; and the mother of his children, Batina Burcher of Appomattox. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2006, at Living Word Baptist Church, with the Rev. Marvin Suitt officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill cemetery. Beulah Drinkard Ford Fitzgerald
Beulah Drinkard Ford Fitzgerald, 94, of Madison Heights, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Fairmont Crossing in Amherst. Twice married
, she was the wife of the late Howard Carson Ford and the late Ruben Stanley Fitzgerald.
Born November 17, 1911 in Amherst County, she was a daughter of the late Tilden Loren and Hattie Wooldridge Drinkard. She was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center and was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Rex L. Drinkard, Boyd E. Drinkard, Alfred L. Drinkard, Artie T. Drinkard, William E. Drinkard, and Percy O. Drinkard and one sister, Eleanor Virginia Drinkard.
Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ford Ayers and her husband, L.J. of Madison Heights; a sister, Maude D. Jenks of Gladys; two grandchildren, Jimmy Ayers and his wife, Nancy of Monroe and Vicki A. Page and her husband, Clay of Concord; three great-grandchildren, Rebecca Page, Jamie Ayers, and Jordan Ayers; a step-daughter, Paggie East and her husband, Mike of Lynchburg; two step granddaughters, Renee East-Jeffress and Lynn Ramsey and a devoted niece, Janice J. Lacks of Rustburg.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2006 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Dr. Timothy Madison. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
