Louise Schley Bryant
Louise Schley Bryant, 80, of Gretna, formerly of Madison Heights, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 in the Danville Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Lloyd Beckner Bryant.
Born April 26, 1923 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Alonza McCary and Addie Ballowe Schley. Mrs. Bryant was a retired nurse's aid with the Central Virginia Training Center and former employee of General Electric. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Madison Heights and Madison Heights Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bryant is survived by three sons, Ronald B. Bryant and his wife, Virginia of Counce, TN, Larry P. Bryant and his wife, Kathy of Gretna, and Gerald M. Bryant and his wife, Jacqueline of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, June A. Bryant of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Madison Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Timothy Madison. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Whitten Monelison Chapel, Madison Heights and other times at the home of her son, Larry, 4529 Midway Road, Gretna.
Mary C. Cohen
Mary C. Cohen, 99, of Lynchburg, died Monday, April 28, 2003 in The Carrington. She was the wife of the late Isaac Cohen.
Born March 22, 1904 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Hyman and Annie Goldberg Cohen. Mrs. Cohen was a member of Agudath Sholom Synagogue.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Cohen is survived by her daughter, Dorothy C. Samuels and her husband, Richard of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Lynn Samuels of Stone Mountain, GA, Victor Samuels of Corrales, NM, Ilene Rivera and her husband, Robert of La Crescenta, CA, and Beth Teitell and her husband, Paul of Littleton, CO; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Sherry, Daniel and Anna Rivera, and Julia and Emily Teitell; one sister-in-law, Esther Cohen of Chevy Chase, MD; four very devoted and caring caregivers, Virginia Viar, Louise Bryant, Virginia Cyrus, and Aylette Pollard and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at Agudath Sholom Synagogue with Rabbi Tom Gutherz, officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Joseph Agudath Sholom cemetery, Madison Heights.

Sherry Ruhland Barricks
Sherry Ruhland Barricks, 41, of Lynchburg, died Thursday July 1, 2004 following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of David J. Barricks.
Also surviving are her children, Justin Barricks, Kristin Barricks, and Jacob Barricks all of Lynchburg; brother, Bryan Ruhland of Evington, sister, Denise Garrett of Rustburg, and one grandchild.
A graveside service will conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday July 5, 2004 at
First Baptist Church of Evington cemetery, with Pastor David Place officiating.
Robert Lee "Bobby" Brookman, Jr.
Robert Lee "Bobby" Brookman, Jr., 60, of Lynchburg, died Friday, January 7, 2005 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Shirley Cofer Brookman.
Born May 21, 1944 in Charlottesville, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Brookman, Sr., and the late Mary Elizabeth Meeks Brookman. Bobby was a member of Leawood Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Jackie Brookman and fiancé Richard Trent and Renee Brookman both of Lynchburg; four grandchildren: K. C. Bray, Kendall Brookman, Keon Cashwell and Lexi Jarvis; one brother, Ronald Brookman of Charlottesville; and a sister, Yvonne Houchens of Charlottesville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Lenn E. Lloyd. Interment will follow in Tree of Life cemetery.
Friends and family may visit today from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of his daughter, Jackie.

Kathleen Chesea Tolley Reynolds
Kathleen Chesea Tolley Reynolds, 82, of Rustburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 3, 2005 after a long illness. For 63 years, she was the wife of the late Andrew Jackson Reynolds who passed away March 24, 2002.
Born September 12, 1922 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter the late Lewis Lucian Tolley and the late Bettie Hensley Tolley. Mrs. Reynolds was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church. She began her working career during the depression when, too young to get a factory job of her own, she would go to work with her older sister, Della, to help her with her job in the cotton mill. She later held various textile related jobs, then was employed at General Electric Co. when they built their Lynchburg factory. She retired from G. E. in 1984. In her retirement years, she loved caring for her pets and planting and tending to her flower gardens.
In addition to her husband, parents and her step-mother, Louise Dunn Tolley, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Della Tolley Moore, Lois Marie Tolley, and Loretta Tolley Duff; and by her brother, Charles Tolley.
She is survived by: four sons, Wayne and wife Sandra of Rustburg, Kenneth and wife Jean of Lynchburg, Jerry and wife Lori of Forest, and Calvin of Rustburg; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 1:00 p.m., at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Family visitation will be Tuesday from 7 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hubert Fox “Bud” Melton, Jr.
Hubert Fox “Bud” Melton, Jr., 68, of Madison Heights, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006, at his residence. He was the husband of Barbara “Joan” Rothwell Melton.
Born June 26, 1937, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Hubert Fox Melton, Sr. and Margaret Tyree Melton. Mr. Melton was a United States Air Force veteran for 12 years and had served in Vietnam and was retired from Falwell Aviation where he had worked for 34 years as an airplane mechanic and pilot.
He loved country music and had played the steel guitar in many local bands. He was a member and past president of the Ruritan Club. Mr. Melton was a Christian and recently dedicated his life to Christ.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Kathryn M. PerDieu and husband, Michael of Amherst County and Brad D. Melton and wife, Amanda, of Tobaccoville, NC; four granddaughters, Destiny and Gracie Melton and Kyleigh and Shayna PerDieu, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Pastor Caroll Martin.
Mr. Melton’s ashes will be flown and scattered over the Blue Ridge Mountains, by his friends and fellow pilots.
The family will receive friends following the service at the residence, 410 Thomas Rd. in Madison Heights.

Gloria Morgan Mays
Gloria Morgan Mays, 61, of Amherst, died Monday, October 9, 2006 at her residence. Born May 25, 1945 in Thaxton, she was the daughter of Rachel Miller Morgan of Thaxton and the late Alfred Morgan. Mrs. Mays was retired from Ericsson and was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Morgan. Mrs. Mays is survived by one daughter, Sylvia D. Griffin of Amherst; one son, Mike A. Dobyns and his wife, Teresa of Norfolk and one brother, Larry Morgan of Bedford. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at the Thaxton Bapsist Church cemetery by the Rev. Glynn A. Coleman, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Monroe.

James Aubrey Staton
James Aubrey Staton, 80, of 447 Stafford Street, died Sunday, April 27, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born November 6, 1922 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Henry and Cora Martin Staton Campbell.
Mr. Staton is survived by two daughters, Doris Maddox and her devoted companion, Kenneth Weaver and Janice Gaydosh and her husband, Edward; one brother, Henry Staton; one sister, Ozelia Farmer, all of Lynchburg; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Spring Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and other times at the residence.
Donald Coleman “Wild Bill” Litchford
Donald Coleman “Wild Bill” Litchford, 67, of Lynchburg, died Thursday July 1, 2004 following a short illness. He was the husband of Shirley T. Litchford.
Born March 14, 1937 in Campbell County, he was a son of the late Lloyd Litchford and Josephine Coleman Litchford King.
Mr. Litchford retired from the Lynchburg Foundry’s Lower Basin and was a member of Greenview Church of God.
In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his children, Wendell R. Litchford and special companion, Debbie Sibold, Darrell W. Litchford and wife Susan, Angela D. Litchford all of Lynchburg and Donald A. Litchford and wife Cindy of Appomattox; three brothers, Herman King of Texas, Eugene King of Lynchburg and Jimmy King of Rustburg; five grand- children, Matthew R. Litchford, Jessica L. Litchford, Jeremy R. Litchford, Dillon R. Litchford, and Jerred T. Litchford.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 6, 2004 in Spring Hill cemetery, by Pastor Bill Wilson.

William Rayford Stern
William Rayford Stern, 72, of Amherst, died Thursday, March 31, 2005 in Fairmont Crossing. He was the husband of Fitzmaurice Tyree Stern for fifty-two years.
Born December 20, 1932 in Campbell County, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward and Fannie Marshall Stern. He was retired from Montague-Betts with thirty-seven years of service and a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Stern attended Sandy Bottom Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray Stern, Richard Stern, and Kenneth Stern and two sisters, Myrtle Tomlinson and Eddie Powell.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Stern is survived by one son, Jeff Edward Stern and his wife, Lisa of Elon; one daughter, Kathy S. McMillan and her husband, Corky of Amherst; one sister, Lucille S. Horsley of Lynchburg, and five grandchildren, Adam Stern, Jared Stern, Jacob Stern, Jonathan McMillan, and Amanda McMillan.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2005 in Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Jim Freeman, Pastor of Sandy Bottom Christian Church.

Annie Adams "Blanche" Hendricks
Annie Adams "Blanche" Hendricks, 77, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of the late Clinton Watson Hendricks. Born April 16, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Martha Irene Glass Adams; also five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Hendricks was known as the "Avon Lady", having sold Avon products for over 40 years, she formerly worked for Craddock-Terry Shoe Co., retired from C.V.T.C., and was a member of Sandusky Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Joseph Thomas "Tom" Hurt, Sr. and his wife Deborah of Rustburg; an adopted daughter, Sandra L. "Cookie" Hurt; a sister, Mary Skelton of Drakes Branch; four grandchildren, Joseph Thomas "T.J." Hurt, Jr. and his wife Angela, Melissa Anne Horne, Amethyst Shae Hurt, and Hunter Thomas Johnny Hurt; a great-grandson, Zachary Thomas Hurt; numerous nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2006, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. Bobby Wood. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Harry William Olson, Jr.
Harry William Olson, Jr., 77, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Fairmont Crossing in Amherst. He was the husband of Reba Olinger Taylor Olson.
Born January 3, 1929 in Chicago, IL, he was a son of the late Harry W. Olson, Sr. and the late Bina Heckalina Olson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Olson Belcher, a sister, Marilyn and a brother, Ronnie.
Harry was a member of the Lutheran Church, and was an U.S. Army veteran serving as an Ordnance Specialist. He retired from Virginia Gear, later Limitorque, after many years of service; he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed metal detecting.
In addition to his wife, Reba, Harry is survived by a daughter, Harriett Olson Cote and husband, Mark of Columbia, PA; a son, Everett R. Taylor and wife, Patsy of Amherst; a son-in-law, Scott Belcher of Savannah, GA; sisters, Mabel, Carol, and Dorothy; brothers, Kenneth and Richard; also surviving are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will conducted at 11:00 a.m. today in Meade Memorial cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 16.

Lucille Frances Lloyd
Lucille Frances Lloyd, 68, of Madison Heights, went to be with the lord, Saturday April 26, 2003, following a courageus battle with C.O.P.D. She was the beloved wife of Billy Mason Lloyd for 50 years.
Born December 31, 1934 in Axton, VA., she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Macie Satterfield Francisco.
Mrs. Lloyd retired after 25 years service from Central Va. Training Center, and was a devoted member of Madison Heights Baptist Church. In addition to her husband Billy, she is survived by her children, Deborah L. Dix and husband Claude, Janet L. Christian and husband David, Ronald Lloyd and wife Nancy, and Garry Lloyd all of Madison Heights, and Steven M. Lloyd and wife, Diane of Evington; four sisters, Belva F. Murphy and Ruth F. Price of Danville, Betty F. Allen of Florida, Elsie F. Walker of Iowa; a brother, Noel Francisco of Martinsville; eight grandchildren, Sean, Joe, Jon, Robbie, Lindsey, Jason, Tanya, and Aaron; four step-grandchildren, Jeannie, Tina, Mark and Nita; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda, Mikayla, Danell, Kevin, Alana, Kasey, and Dylan; seven step-great-grandchildren, Brett, Zachary, Tyler, Scott, Zachary, Taylor, and Veronica.
A service to celebrate Lucille's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 29, 2003 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with Dr. Tim Madison officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum of Fort Hill Memorial Park.
