Lillian Hartless Nuckols

Lillian Hartless Nuckols, 92, of Lynchburg died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born in Rockbridge County, May 12, 1913, she was the beloved wife of the late Earnest E. Nuckols for 57 years. She was a daughter of the late Henry and Rosa Lee Hartless of Rockbridge. She was also the eldest of seven brothers and three sisters who all preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph E. Nuckols and his wife Bettie and Wallace E. Nuckols and his wife Scottie; two daughters, Betty N. Cooper and her friend Henry B. Enochs and Bertha N. Arthur and her friend William B. Blankenship all of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Lillian was a charter member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. She was active with the Jolly Sixties, Senior Saints and 50 – plus ministries. She served with the Senior Saints Gospel Singers and the Acts Couples and taught Sunday school for many years.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the Pate Chapel of Thomas Road Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Falwell, the Rev. Charlie Harbin and the Rev. Roy Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at her home.

The family request memorial contributions be made to the 50-Plus Ministry of Thomas Road Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

Ruth Johnson Wright

Ruth Johnson Wright, 78, of 2532 Camp Hydaway Road, Lynchburg, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 in Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Allie Carl Wright.

Born July 27, 1928 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie David and Clara Dudley Johnson. She was a member of Eastbrook Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Albert Johnson; six brothers and one sister.

Ruth is survived by one son, William Carl (Pete) Wright and his wife, Kerri of Lynchburg; three daughters, Mary Jane Marshall of Rustburg, Shirley Coleman of Lynchburg and her fiance’, Ralph Hise, and Judy Cash of Rustburg and her fiance’, Garland (Foxie) Johnson; a devoted niece (daughter), Carolyn Wingfield; a special friend, James (J.C.) Wood; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Linda Johnson and many nieces and nephews..

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Whitten Park Ave. Chapel by Pastor Mark Grooms. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Harold Kermit “Crick” Crickenberger

Harold Kermit “Crick” Crickenberger, 79, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. For 55 years, he was the husband of June Gallaher Crickenberger, who survives.

Born April 30, 1924 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Warren Alvan Crickenberger and the late Lillie Thoms Crickenberger. Mr. Crickenberger proudly served in the US Army during WWII having served in the European theatre and fighting in the “Battle of the Bulge”. For 38 years he was employed at G.N.B. which was formerly Gould Battery. He was a longtime member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church and the former First United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Crickenberger was preceded in death by two brothers; Alvan B. Crickenberger and Orville R. Crickenberger.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a son; Harold Wayne Crickenberger of Lynchburg, three granddaughters; Jennifer C. Simonton (Johnny), Tracy C. Crickenberger (Jared Noel) and Lindsay Crickenberger, three great grandchildren; Dakota and Shauna Simonton and Jacob Noel, three brothers; Herbert P. Crickenberger, Lloyd A. Crickenberger and Gordon R. Crickenberger and four sisters; Jessie C. Burkholder, Shirley C. Mehaffey, Douglas C. Dugger and Jeannette C. Boles.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Reverend Nolan R. Crowder. Interment, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 16, will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park

Friends and family may visit from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the family home at 1510 Lynndale Place, Lynchburg.

Curtis C. Hudson

Curtis C. Hudson, 74, of New York, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2004.

Born March 29, 1930, in Monroe, VA, he was a son of the late John Albert Hudson, Jr. and Janie Garrett Hudson. Mr. Hudson was a Korean War Veteran having served in the Army and the Air Force, and was a member of the Monroe Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hudson's wife, Mary Hudson and five sisters, Marie Bibb, Virginia McCord, Beatrice Mills, Elizabeth Bellegia and Doris Wiesener also preceded him in death.

Survivors include three children, John Hudson, David Hudson and Nancy Hudson, one brother, John A. Hudson, Jr. of Lynchburg, two sisters, Odelle Candler of Silver Spring, Maryland and Irene Neal of Madison Heights, as well as a good friend and caretaker, Sherry.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

Keith Eugene Clark

Keith Eugene Clark, 70 of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2004. He was the husband of Annette Clark.

Born October 24, 1934, in Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Joseph and Dolly Sorenson Clark. Mr. Clark had worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 35years until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Annette, Mr. Clark is survived by five children; Linda Clark Nalls and husband Glen of WV, Mark Eugene Clark and wife Karen of Vienna, Devlin Clark and wife Sheryl of Berryville, Kelly Clark and wife Terri of Ashburn and Tonja Clark Agey and husband George of Warrenton, a sister, Bette Burleson, 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 12-1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mrs. Clark, 351 Blue Ridge Lane, Monroe, VA 24572.

Shirley Noell Hamke

Shirley Noell Hamke, 69, of Monroe, passed away Monday, March 6, 2006, at Fairmont Crossing. She was the wife of the late Robert Frederick Hamke, Jr.

Born December 17, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Saunders Noell and Katherine Sneed Noell. Mrs. Hamke was a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church and was retired from Internal Medicine Associates where she worked as an insurance clerk.

Survivors include a son, Robert Douglas Hamke of Monroe and a daughter, Robin H. Hornstra, of Mechanicsville; two brothers, William Noell, of Vinton and O.S. Noell, and wife Judy, of Bedford, a grandson, Colton Ray Hornstra, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Mark W. Beck. Interment will take place in Virginia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 605 Clay St, Lynchburg, VA (434) 845-8540.

Hallie Tolley Hudson

Hallie Tolley Hudson, 95, of Lynchburg, died Monday, October 16, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Dewey Davis Hudson. Born January 24, 1911 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Edward Lesley Tolley and the late Hattie Cumby Tolley; also two brothers and a granddaughter, Teresa Hudson, preceded her in death. Mrs. Hudson retired from Piedmont Garment Company and was a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her sons, Ray Hudson and wife, Bea of Lynchburg, Rodney A. Hudson and wife, Nancy of Forest, Patrick T. Hudson and wife, Peggy of Lynchburg, and Willard D. Hudson and wife, Joyce of Concord; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grand- children, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2006 in Spring Hill cemetery, with Pastor Mack Almond officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at her son Ray's home, 779 Dawnridge Drive. Memorial contributions may be made to Tree of Life Ministries, 2812 Greenview Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Gordon Ogle, Jr.

Gordon Ogle, Jr., 70, of Forest, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003 at his residence. For 45 years, he was the husband of Patricia Bullock Ogle, who survives.

Born January 1, 1933 in Holston, VA, he was the son of the late Gordon Letcher Ogle and the late Minnie Alice Cantrell Ogle. Mr. Ogle proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict, he was a member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 16 and had retired from General Electric after 18 years of service there.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ogle was preceded in death by two brothers; Stuart Ramsey and Ralph Ogle, two sisters; Virginia Lytz and Mavis Carroll.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two daughters and their husbands; Lisa and Rusty Wood of Forest and Debbie and Alex Bridygham of Newark, CA, two grandsons; John and Andrew Wood, a brother and sister-in-law; William Monroe and Christine Ogle as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services, with full military honors, will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at Glenwood cemetery, Bristol, Tenn. by Dr. Barry Burkholder.

Josie Ann Moore

Josie Ann Moore, 83, of Rustburg, died Monday July 12, 2004 peacefully at her residence.

Born May 14, 1921 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late William Lewis “Punch” Moore, Sr. and Judy Tibbs Moore; in addition, to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Lizzie Cyrus, Emma Daniel, Evelyn Steele, Bertha Keesee, Jessie Jennings, and three Brothers, Hubert Moore, Herbert Moore, and Lewis Moore.

Josie graduated from Rustburg High School and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and a faithful servant of New Chapel Baptist Church for many years.

“Jo” is survived by a sister-in-law, Jewel W. Moore; her special extended family, Lisa and Edward Tribble, Sharon and Willie “Pete” Thompson, Teresa and Roger Akers; many nieces and nephews; special devoted friends, Beulah Hodnett and Mary Lee; and her cat “Baby”.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 14, 2004 at New Chapel Baptist Church, with Pastor George Kreidel and Pastor Gerry Burkholder officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of New Chapel Baptist Church.

Harvey Roger Womack

Harvey Roger Womack, 62 of Madison Heights, passed away Thursday, November 04, 2004. Mr. Womack had worked at the Lynchburg Foundry for over 30 years.

Born December 23, 1941 in Halifax County, he was a son of the late Robert Hewill Womack and Lucille Walker Wilborn.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Butch” Junior Womack and a sister, Rachel Wilborn.

Survivors include four daughters; Linda Ramsey and husband David, Patty Neighbors and husband Russell, Deborah Lucado, Tammy Sprouse and husband Michael, all of Madison Heights, one son, Harvey “H.E.” Womack and girlfriend Wanda of Nelson County, three brothers; Johnny Womack and wife Brenda, Linsey “Bea” Womack and wife Gail, and Curtis “Bimbo” Francisco and wife Joyce, and a sister, Linda Wilmouth, all of Halifax, a special friend, Skippy, 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Reverend Donnie Glass. Interment will be in the Presbyterian cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Patty Neighbors, 102 Royal Gardens Ct. in Madison Heights.

Sarah Lucille Patrick Ratcliff

Sarah Lucille Patrick Ratcliff passed away peacefully on Monday, March 06, 2006 at Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lynchburg at the age of 86 of Alzheimer’s disease.

Born on October 24, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Virgie Patrick of Rich Valley, Va. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, James “Bill” Ratcliff, her son, Lee “sonny: Harris and eight brothers and sisters. She was of Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include three daughters, Sara DeLorge and her husband Mike and Lou Cannon and her husband Robert all of Lynchburg, and Barbara Branson and her husband Jim of Melbourne, Fla.; four granddaughters, Elizabeth Keesee of Lynchburg, Jennifer Branson of New York, Robin Branson of Arizona, and Heather Branson of Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Spencer Camden of Lynchburg and Petey and Alisha of NY; one sister, Eloise Boardwine of Kingsport, TN, one sister-in-law, Betty Ratcliff of Richmond and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 10, 2006 at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville. A graveside service will be conducted in Elizabeth cemetery in Saltville.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association P.O. Box 823, Lynchburg, Virginia 24505.
