Dorothy Maddox Millner
Dorothy Maddox Millner, 80, of Lynchburg, died Sunday July 25, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born March 12, 1924 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late John Cleveland Maddox and the late Daisy Lawhorne Maddox. In addition, two brothers, Andrew and Arthur Maddox and two sisters, Maggie DeJarnette and Lois Allen preceded her in death.
Mrs. Millner worked for the Texas Inn for a number of years before her retirement, and was a member of New Testament Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Thomas L. Millner and his wife Maria of Amherst, a daughter, Lillian M. Blankenship and her husband David of Evington; a sister, Doris M. Padgett of Lynchburg, twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday July 28, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with the Rev. Gary L Vernon officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Visitation for family and friends will be today, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at her daughters residence, 280 Castle Craig Drive, Evington.
Ruth Steuart Penny
Ruth Steuart Penny died Sunday March 12, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born November 10, 1910, in Amherst County, Ruth was a daughter of the late Samuel Steuart and Frances Williams Steuart
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death her husband; Clarence Fuller Penny, her daughter; Clarene Conley, brothers; Lorenzo Steuart, Eddie Steuart, Charlie Steuart, Alfred Steuart, John Steuart, and Ewing Steuart, sisters; Flora Slough, Lucy Campbell, and Sallie Layne.
Ruth is survived by her sister Fanny Elder of Bedford, and her nephew James Steuart and wife Betty Jo, of Madison Heights, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ruth was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church..
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Whitten Park Ave. Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth B. Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service.

Herman lee Brown, Sr.
Herman lee Brown, Sr., 70, of Madison Heights, departed this life, Monday, October 30, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Thomyjeane Lewis Brown.
Born November 27, 1935 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Oscar Squire Brown, Sr. and the late Hazel Johnson Brown. He was retired from Northern Virginia College after 27 years of service and was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Brown is survived by five children, Lorraine Beard and her husband, Mitchell of Lynchburg, Herman Brown, Jr. and his wife, Christine of Amherst, Sherwood Brown and his wife, Jeaneen of Richmond, Kimberly Gruzwalski of Detroit, Michigan, and Yolanda Creech and her husband, Rick of Harrisonburg, Pennsylvania and a step-daughter, Janiece Verrett and husband, Kevin, of Greenbelt, Maryland; two brothers, Oscar S. Brown, Jr. and Robert Brown, both of Madison Heights; one sister, Louretha Ford and her husband, William H. Ford, Sr. of Madison Heights and a sister-in-law, Rosa Brown; dear friend, Deborah Sellers; 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, by the Rev. Mary Woodruff. Interment will take place in Chest nut Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Estelle Sublett Helferstay
Estelle Sublett Helferstay, 96, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, May 16, 2003 at Medical Care Center. She was the widow of the late Clarence Leroy Helferstay, Sr.
Born January 21, 1907 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. Sublett and the late Elizabeth Thompson Sublett. She was an active member of Sandusky Baptist Church, formerly the Franklin Street Baptist Church, since the age of seven.
Mrs. Helferstay is survived by: her son; C. LeRoy Helferstay, Jr. and wife Jo-Ann of Lynchburg, three grandchildren; Michael, Laura and Kirsten Helferstay all of Lynchburg, a special devoted niece; Mary Evelyn Hines of LaCrosse, eight nieces, nine nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at Sandusky Baptist Church by the Reverend Bobby Wood. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the home of her son at 199 Catalpa Road, Lynchburg.

Marilyn Patricia Walsh
Marilyn Patricia Walsh, 65, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was born January 29, 1939 in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late Martin and Bertha White Walsh. She was employed at the Stop In Food Store on Campbell Avenue.
She is survived by two daughters, Michele Reed and husband Philip of Boston, Mass., and Tara Walsh of Lynchburg; three granddaughters, Katelyn Selter of Boston, Mass., and Brianna Walsh and Ashante Brown both of Lynchburg.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Family visitation will be Saturday, July 24, 2004, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.
James Ray Garrett
James Ray Garrett, 68 of Madison Heights, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2004. He was the husband of Edwina W. Garrett.
Born February 16, 1936 in Phenix, VA, he was a son of the late Sandy A. and Allie Garrison Garrett. Mr. Garrett was a Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Navy, a member of Temple Baptist Church and was retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 261/2 years of service.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Garrett is survived by two children; Alan R. Garrett and his wife Donna, and Connie S. Garrett and fiancé Shawn Chapman all of Madison Heights, two brothers; Sandy A. Garrett, Jr. and wife Anita and Horace L. Garrett and wife Dale both of Lynchburg, three grandchildren, Kayla, Kristin and Lakelyn, numerous devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. John D. Surbaugh and the Rev. Earl Clarkson officiating. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Richard "Ricky" Ray Lambert
Richard "Ricky" Ray Lambert, 50, of Lynchburg, died, Saturday, March 11, 2006 at his residence.
Born April 20, 1955 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Roy Jack Lambert and the late Ann Hall Lambert. Ricky was a graduate of E. C. Glass High School and had been employed at Buncher Railcar Service for 29 years.
He is survived by a loving companion, Stacey Shifflett of Lynchburg; one brother, Larry Lambert and wife Donna of Lynchburg, and their children, Sherry, David, Avery and Sariah; and two aunts, Catherine Maddox of Lynchburg and her children, Richard, Ronnie, Wayne, Darlene and David, and Rose and Kirtis Webb of Lynchburg.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by Dr. Barry Burkholder.
Family visitation will be Tuesday, from 7 – 8:30 p.m., at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Maryon Tweedy Wright
Maryon Tweedy Wright, 89, of Madison Heights, died Sunday, October 29, 2006 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Walter William Wright.
Born April 14, 1917 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Emmett Price Tweedy and Evie Virginia Evans Tweedy. Mrs. Wright was retired from Southland Life Insurance Company and was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Reginald E. Tweedy and R. Price Tweedy.
Mrs. Wright is survived by one sister, Ethel T. Maurer and her husband, Dr. Ralph Maurer of Littlefield, TX; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Tweedy of Lynchburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Madison Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Timothy Madison. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Mrs. Wright’s home and from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

Neal Edwards Fletcher, Jr.
Neal Edwards Fletcher, Jr., 65, of Spout Spring, died Monday, May 12, 2003 at Hospice House of the Hills after a long battle with prostate cancer.
Born February 14, 1938 in Monroe, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Neal Edwards Fletcher, Sr. and the late Frances Lee Stack. He was the co-owner of Picture Perfect Gallery and a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church.
While attending the College of William & Mary, Neal volunteered many hours with the Williamsburg Fire & Rescue Squad and was employed by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, doing botanical research. Upon graduation, he began his teaching career in Newport News. Upon moving to central Virginia, he earned his Masters Degree from the University of Virginia. He taught Biology at Rustburg High School for 33 years, where he established a weather station. As a teacher, he inspired many students, who later pursued careers in Science. He was also a member of the Rustburg Volunteer Fire Dept. and was instrumental in the formation of the Second Brigade. This team of High School students provided valuable daytime fire protection for the Rustburg Community.
Neal is survived by one son, Neal Edwards (Ed) Fletcher, III and his wife, Norma of Rustburg; one daughter; Ann Fletcher Parker and her husband, Malcolm of Lynchburg; his life partner, Chuck English of Spout Spring; two grandchildren, Neal E. Parker, Emily Kate Parker and three step-grandchildren, Malcolm T. Parker of Lynchburg, Brian M. Parker of Richmond, and Nicholas T. Parker of Lynchburg.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Timberlake United Methodist Church by the Rev. Larry Davies and the Rev. George Hatmaker with a reception to follow.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
Neal had a strong faith and served as an Elder at Rustburg Presbyterian Church for many years. Later, he joined Timberlake U.M. Church, where he found a church family, which cared for him deeply.

Haywood Lewis Brown
Haywood Lewis Brown, 64, of 1100 Craigmont Drive, died Thursday, March 18, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Judy Burns Brown.
Born July 12, 1939 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Hazel Baker Brown. He was a retired long distance truck driver for more than forty years. Mr. Brown attended Leawood Baptist Church, whose members, he truly loved.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kris B. Cox and her mother, Jean P. Brown; his son-in-law, Chris A. Cox; two grandsons, Scout A. Cox and C. Banks Cox, all of Winston-Salem, NC; two step-sons, Allen E. Burns, Jr. and his wife, Vicky of Rustburg and Wesley F. Burns and his wife, Kathy of Bedford; two step-grandsons, Daniel Moon and Ronnie Johnson and his wife, Allyson; one brother, Charles H. Brown and his wife, Suzzie of Savannah, MO; one sister, Gale Beyer and her husband, Tom of Pine Grove, CA and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004 at Virginia Memorial Park by the Rev. Lenn Lloyd and the Rev. Evelyn Mitchell.

Wister Lee Rogers, Sr.
Wister Lee Rogers, Sr., 64, of Madison Heights, died Thursday, July 15, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Earline N. Rogers.
Born in Lynchburg, June 5, 1940 he was a son of the late Wister A. and Mary Loving Rogers. He was retired from Intermet – Archer Creek Foundry after 30 years of service and was a lifetime member of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Harley Owners Group and a member of the Isaak Walton League.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Wister Lee Rogers, Jr. and his wife Carolyn; two brothers, Buddy Rogers of Florida and Calvin Rogers of Lynchburg; one sister, Joyce Ramsey and her husband Brian of Madison Heights; two grandchildren, Corey Rogers and Danielle Rogers. He is also survived by a devoted lifetime friend, Clarence Irby.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
