Robert Wistar “Bob” Deaner
Robert Wistar “Bob” Deaner, 64, of Lynchburg died Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jean D. Deaner.
Born in Lynchburg, January 2, 1942, he was the son Margaret Walker Deaner of Lynchburg and the late Wilbur Wistar Deaner. Bob was employed with O’Neal Steel with 41 years of service. He was an active member and deacon of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, a member of the Woods Hunt Club and a former member of Campbell County Rescue Squad.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one daughter, Wisty Mayberry and her husband Jerry; two sons, Chris Deaner and his wife Amanda and Shawn Deaner and his wife Heather all of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Everette Mayberry, Jackson Mayberry, Gavin Deaner and William Deaner; and a special cousin, Ellen J. Haley and her husband Malcolm.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Bower officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Robert Lewis Ragland, Jr.
Robert Lewis Ragland, Jr., 86, of 332 Ragland Road, Madison Heights, went home to be with his heavenly Father, Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the Medical Care Center. He was the beloved husband of Olene Bishop Ragland for fifty-one years.
Born December 11, 1917 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Robert Lewis Ragland, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Raikes Ragland. He retired from Chap Stick after thirty-seven years of service, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 274. Mr. Ragland was a lifelong member of Madison Heights Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Ragland, Elbert Ragland, and Charlie Ragland.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ragland is survived by two daughters, Robbie Ragland Jones and her husband, Joseph of Christiansburg and Rhonda Ragland Campbell of Madison Heights and her friend, Jeff Smith; two sisters, Eva Camron and Irene Miller, both of Madison Heights and seven grandchildren, Steven Shannon and his wife, Dana, Jessica Shannon, Emily Jones, Laura Jones, Casey R. Campbell, Logan R.Campbell, and Jacob D. Campbell.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Madison Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Timothy Madison. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church and other times at the residence.

Ruth Earlene Almond Cooper
Ruth Earlene Almond Cooper, 70, of 2220 Cobb Street, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 28, 2004 at the Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Born December 15, 1933 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Carrie Brooks Almond. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Catherine Almond.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Teresa Cooper Gillette and her husband, Allen and a grandson, Chad, all of Forest; three brothers, Herman Almond, James Almond and his wife, Delores, all of Lynchburg and Fred Almond of Rustburg; a sister, Catherine St.John and her husband, Bobby of Forest; two special aunts, Madeline Tyree of Madison Heights and Florence Jones of Lynchburg and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Gary Vernon, officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.
Family visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004 at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, 220 London Downs Drive, Forest.

Mrs. Addie Cyrus Mayberry
Mrs. Addie Cyrus Mayberry, 69, of 425 Carolina Ave, Madison Heights, died Saturday September 13, 2003, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Ralph Morris Mayberry, Sr.
Born in Amherst County she was the daughter of the late Robert C. Cyrus, Sr. and Leslie Ogden Cyrus. She was retired from Central Virginia Training Center.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert C. Cyrus, Jr. and two sisters Carolyn Faye Childress, and Helen Louise Clements.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Ralph Morris Mayberry, Jr. and his wife Madeline, and a daughter Leslie Marie Grant and her husband Walter all of Madison Heights, four grandchildren, Tonya Marie Ashley and her husband Roy, Stephen Morris Ingo, Joseph P. Mayberry, and Jennifer M. Mayberry, three precious great-grandchildren, Brianna Marie Ashley, Christopher Morris Ashley, and Stephen Morris Ingo, Jr. all of Madison Heights. Two Sisters Betty C. Compton of Lynchburg, and Tessie C. Tyree, of Madison Heights. A Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday September17, 2003 in Meade cemetery officiated by the Reverend Larry Fitzgerald.
The Family will receive friends Tuesday September 16, 2003 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence, 425 Carolina Avenue, Madison Heights.

William E. Grant
William E. Grant, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, July 26, 2004.
Born August 10, 1914, he was a son of the late Eddie Lee Grant and Hallie Williams Grant. Mr. Grant was retired from NASA in Wallops Island, VA as the Chief of Technical Services after 33 years of service. He was an avid golfer and baseball player, having played in a semi-pro league in Lynchburg. He was a member of Nassawango Country Club in Snow Hill, MD, and Colonial Hills Country Club in Lynchburg. As a dedicated golfer, he followed a circuit of golf courses from Dover, DE, to Myrtle Beach, SC, and many times shooting his age or better. He was also a Life Member of Elks Lodge # 1624 in Pocomoke City, MD.
Mr. Grant was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Proehl Grant; one brother, Harry; and five sisters, Frances, Joyce, Hazel, Pauline and Wyonna.
Survivors include one son, Donald E. Grant and wife Brenda of Parksley, VA; a daughter, Judith Anne Grant of Modest Town, VA, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Spring Hill cemetery.
Clarence Leroy Kulle
Clarence Leroy Kulle, 89, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the Summit of Lynchburg. He was the husband of the late Laura Perry Kulle. Born January 5, 1917 in Solvay, New York, he was a son of the late William T. Kulle and the late Emma West Kulle. Mr. Kulle was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II, a 50 year member of the Charles T. Raymer Lodge, AF & AM of Cleveland, OH, retired as General Manager of Blaushild Chevrolet and was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by two sons, Larry D. Kulle and wife Frances of Broadview Hgts., OH and Phillip Kulle and wife Gay-Marie of Euclid, OH; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at a later date in Union cemetery, St. Clairsville, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 16, P.O. Box 10216, Lynchburg, VA 24506.

Edward “Buck” Calvin Layne
Edward “Buck” Calvin Layne, 90, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. For 57 years, he was the husband of Catherine Norman Layne, of Lynchburg, who survives him.
He was born in September 1913 in Lynchburg, the son of the late Eddie A. Layne and the late Emma Daughtery Layne. Mr. Layne was a WWII Navy veteran and was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church for 50 years, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He had retired from the US Postal Service after 37 years of employment.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Layne was preceded in death by a son, David Calvin Layne, two brothers, Albert Layne and Randall Layne and by a sister, Evelyn Layne Miller.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Layne Hamlett of Richmond.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2003 at West Lynchburg Baptist Church by Dr. Michael Cox, Rev. James Newman and Rev. Herb Maynard. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Family visitation will be from 6:30 - 8 p.m., Thursday, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Mary Lee Hawkins Gallaher Martin
Mary Lee Hawkins Gallaher Martin, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, January 5, 2004 at Danville Regional Medical Center. She was a resident of the Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville for the past 5 years.
Born in Bedford County, on July 28, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Comer Lee Hawkins and the late Laura Johnson Hawkins. Mary and Eugene owned and operated Gallaher Grocery for 60 years. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and and former member of Norwood Baptist Church as well as a member of Bellview Rebekah Lodge. She was a dedicated member of the pink ladies at Virginia Baptist Hospital for many years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Eugene Matthew Gallaher, Sr., and by her 2nd husband, Joseph Eperson Martin, one son, Peronneau Gallaher; four brothers, Clifford Hawkins, Henry Dexter Hawkins, Clarence Hawkins and Edward Hawkins; and by three sisters, Rosetta Smith, Roberta Hawkins and Myrtle Mitchell.
She is survived by a son, Eugene M. Gallaher, Jr., and wife Nancy of Ringgold; a daughter, Mary Ellen Hatcher Robertson and husband Darrell of Lynchburg; step-children, Herman Louis Martin and wife Lucille, Joann Lee and Marshie Honig and husband Ed all of Goode; a daughter-in-law, Ethel Gallaher Andrews of Colonial Heights; a brother, Enos Hawkins of Forest; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; and 8 step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Rev. Charles L. Stinson. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.

Ura Lee Hendricks Elliott
Ura Lee Hendricks Elliott, 94, of Lynchburg, passed away April 9, 2004, at Avante.
Born January 7, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry Hendricks and Virginia Williams Hendricks Bailey and was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Elliott as well as one brother, Len Hendricks; two half sisters, Emma Taylor and Betty Minnix; two step sisters, Flossie Bailey and Myrtle Sexton. Mrs. Elliott was a member of Fairview Christian Church and was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after 20 years of service.
Survivors include her daughters, Ann E. Blanks and her husband Ronald of Madison Heights and Virginia E. “June” Powell and her husband Vernard of Lynchburg, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2004 at the Presbyterian cemetery.

Louise Jamerson Mroch
Louise Jamerson Mroch, of Lynchburg, died Monday August 9, 2004.Twice married
, she was the widow of Floyd Carrington Wright and Glenn Arthur Mroch.
Born in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Edward Anderson Jamerson and Florence Silby Jamerson; in addition, five brothers, Allen, Earl, Berkley, Frank, and Holcomb Jamerson and two sisters, Alice Davis Lipscomb and Nellie J. Jennings preceded her in death.
Mrs. Mroch was a retired waitress with Howard Johnson Restaurant.
She is survived by two sons, Floyd C. Wright of Evington and Edward J. Wright of Rustburg; a sister, Lucille J. Burton of Forest; three grandchildren, Crystal, Brandy, and April Wright and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Gmach and Hailee Campbell.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Pastor J. Mike Dodson officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road.
Jeraldine Ruth Reed
Jeraldine Ruth Reed, 81, of Madison Heights, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2005 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Laco E. Reed.
Born January 15, 1924 in Century, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rebecca Poling Scott. Mrs. Reed was co-owner of Laco Reed Insurance and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Reed is survived by two daughters, Patricia Collier and husband Gary of Davie, Florida and Roberta Triplett and her husband Terry of Madison Heights, five grandchildren, Rebekah, Ruth and Heather Collier all of Davie, Florida, Carl Triplett of Madison Heights and Shannon Richardson of Wickenburg, Arizona, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at Whitten Funeral Home by the Rev. John Pickett. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

Elsie May Seaman Moyer
Elsie May Seaman Moyer, 86, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Paul Wesley Moyer for 65 wonderful years.
Born May 25, 1918 in Wernersville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Franklin Reber Seaman and the late Edith Wolf Seaman.
Also preceding her in death were two grandsons, Stephen Wellman and Eric Wellman; two sisters, Carolyn Seaman and Esther Seaman Zapf; and a brother, Franklin Seaman.
Elsie was a dedicated Christian, active for many years with music, youth, and Christian education at the First Church of God, Reading, PA.
She also attended Burns Avenue Church of God in Lake Wales, FL., Mountain View Church of God in Lynchburg, and Grace Church of God in Forest.
She was an honorary lifetime member of Women of the Church of God.
She was a hard worker and a loving, generous wife, mother and grandmother, who took constant care of her invalid husband, bantered in Pennsylvania Dutch with her favorite son-in-law, monitored everyone's lives, doted on her grandchildren, and blessed all those who knew her. In addition to her husband Paul, she is survived by one daughter, Deborah Wellman and her husband, Samuel of Lynchburg; a son, Paul W. Moyer, Jr. of Boston, MA; a brother, Marvin Seaman of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren, Karen Melki of Atkins, VA., David Wellman Cavanaugh of Jackson, MS., Greg Wellman, Kathryn Williams and Kristen Wellman all of Lynchburg and four great-grandchildren, Amanda Melki, Elie Melki, Samantha Melki, and Adenine Cavanaugh.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. William Wilson.
Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading PA. at a later date.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, prior to services.
