Harold Loyd Trent
Harold Loyd Trent, 72, of Forest, died Tuesday October 5, 2004 at Medical Care Center.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara Overstreet Trent.
Born December 6, 1931 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Loyd Nelson Trent and the late Phyllis (Rachel) Hawkins Trent.
Mr. Trent was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired driver for Preston Trucking, and a member of Living Word Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his daughters, Becky Sue Hooper and her husband Tim and Samantha Ann Craft and her husband William all of Forest; four grandchildren, Zac Stinson, Charity Stinson, Amber Stinson, and Ethan Craft; and a great-granddaughter, Phoebe Stinson.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday October 8, 2004 at Virginia Memorial Park, by the Rev. Marvin Suitt, pastor of Living Word Baptist Church.
Visitation for family and friends will be 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.
Bernice Burks (Edna) Byers
Bernice Burks (Edna) Byers, 81, of Lynchburg died Monday, March 14, 2005 at her residence. She was the wife of Andrew H. Byers for 64 years.
Born July 3, 1923 in Amherst County, she was a daughter of the late George H. and Myrtle Davies Burks. Mrs. Byers was retired from C.B. Cones and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Wiggington Road.
In addition to her parents, one daughter, Mary Johnson preceded her in death.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Byers is survived by one daughter, Betty Stafford and her husband Tom of Madison Heights; one son, Don Byers, Sr. Lynchburg; her son in law, Ryland Johnson of Brookneal; one brother, Talmadge Burks and his wife Rena of Fredricksburg; eight grandchildren, Ray Stafford and his wife Linda, Teresa Carr and her husband Eddie, Amy Connelly and her husband Johnny; Terry Johnson and his wife Sherry, Sheree Rhue and her husband Wayne, Julie Bartley and her husband Robbie, Donnie Byers and his wife Wanda and Tammy Ware and her husband Kevin and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by four special nieces, Dorothy Sullivan, Brenda Fulton, Sandra Denton and Wanda Stansfield and a special nephew, Bill White.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Minister Marshall Mawyer. Interment will follow in Allwood cemetery. There will be a reception for family and friends immediately following the burial at the Elon Ruritan Club. .
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her daughter Betty Stafford.

Clyde Eldridge ‘Jimmy’ Martin
Clyde Eldridge ‘Jimmy’ Martin, 77, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, October 1, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alease Rice Martin.
Born March 28, 1927 in Danville, he was the son of the late Charles Edward Martin and the late Virginia Reeves Martin. He was educated in the Danville Public Schools and was a US NAVY veteran having served in WWII. Traveling throughout the state of Virginia, he worked in sales and marketing for the Flowers Baking Co. and retired in 1992 after 44 years with the company. He was past president of the Lynchburg Sertoma Club and a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Dalton Martin and by his sister, Shirley Martin Essa.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Martin is survived by: two daughters: Lisa Martin Craig and husband Dennis of Richmond and Jill Martin Smeltzer and husband Robin ob Abington; a loving granddaughter, Keller Alease Craig of Richmond; a sister, Iris Ireson of Danville; and a bother and sister-in-law, Harold and Patsy Rice of Monroe.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p. m., Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr. Interment will follow in Beulah Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today, from 3 – 5 p.m., at the funeral home.

Joseph Warren Glass
Joseph Warren Glass, 82, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, September 23, 2004 at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris P. Glass.
Born in Campbell County, May 31, 1922, he was a son of the late John D. and Annie Scott Glass. Joe retired from the Lynchburg Police Department in 1977 after 30 years of service. During his career, he held various positions with the department and attended many schools and training in the field of law enforcement and achieved the level of Captain prior to his retirement. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, John Lynch Lodge #34. Joe was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman and loved the game of baseball having played earlier in life and later was a fan of the Atlanta Braves. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran and served on the USS Santa Fe in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Joe was also a member and former deacon of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church and was a member of the Buddy Huff Sunday School Class.
Nine brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Kirk Glass and his wife Donna of Forest; one sister, Virginia Fore of Lynchburg; one brother, Thornton Glass of Vinton; one grandson, Ethan Glass and a number of devoted extended family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Bower and Col. Charles Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Claude Alvin Beard
Claude Alvin Beard, 68, of Lynchburg, died Friday, September 24, 2004, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, VA.
Born in Amherst County, he was a son of of the late Leslie Lee Beard and Winnie Duff Beard.
Claude was a retired security guard, a member of the Lynchburg Seventh Day Adventist Church and a member of the American Legion Post 16.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by a brother, Clyde W. Beard of Lynchburg; two sisters, Alma B. Oliver of Madison Heights and Helen Dees of Lincoln, CA., and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with Military Honors, will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday September 27, 2004 at El Bethel Church cemetery, Allwood, VA, by the American Post 16.
Whitten Monelison Chapel is assisting the family with services.
Ara Wilson Goff
Ara Wilson Goff, 83, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2005 in the Hospice House of the Hills. She was the wife of 64 years to Maxie Edward Goff.
Born October 14, 1921 in Big Island, she was the daughter of the late William and Esther Goff Wilson. Mrs. Goff retired from Craddock & Terry Shoe Corp. after thirty years of service. She was a member of King of Kings Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Goff is survived by one son, Mike Goff and his wife, Patsy of Hurt; one daughter, Stella Goff and her husband, Kinkle of Boonsboro; two brothers, George A. Wilson and his wife, Della and Paul J. Wilson and his wife, Rosa, all of Lynchburg; one sister, Margaret W. Fisher and her husband, Vincent of Rustburg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. John Robinson and the Rev. Bob Breeden. Interment will follow in Hunting Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Big Island.
The family will receive friends from 7- 8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Stella and Kinkle Goff, 203 Holiday Bob Ct., in Lynchburg. .

LaVaun “Punkin” Lowderman Brodmerkel
LaVaun “Punkin” Lowderman Brodmerkel, 83, of 4507 Brooklawn Circle, Lynchburg, VA, died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Richard Everett Brodmerkel.
Born September 25, 1920 in Clinton, MO, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Clyde and Elsie Ferry Lowderman. She was retired from Lane Bryant and a member of Unity in the Seven Hills Church.
Mrs. Brodmerkel is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Wilson of Concord; three grandchildren, Theresa Baker and her husband, Rusty, Tammera White, and Michelle Whitten and her husband, James “Tiny” Whitten and five great-grandchildren, Jeremy Joseph Austin, Melissa Lee Hudson, Robin Marie Hudson, Jennifer Lynn Whitten and Autumn Faith Litchford, a special adopted daughter, Marilyn Bryant of Concord.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the residence of LaVaun.

Richard Franklin Davis
Richard Franklin Davis, 82, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday August 11, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Rebecca Barksdale Davis for 62 years.
Born April 4, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Wilson and Annie Forline Davis. In addition, five sisters, Myrtle D. Nunn, Wavor D. Yeatts, Eula D. Hines, Garnett D. Hines, Adelaide D. Lester, and three brothers, Otis, Wilson, and Walter Davis preceded him in death.
Richard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; he was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II, a member of Heritage Baptist Church, and retired as a building superintendent with English Construction Co., having worked from 1950 – 1989.
In addition to his wife Rebecca, he is survived by two sons, Danny L. Davis and his wife Mary Kay Davis of Kenneth Square, PA, and Kenneth F. Davis and his wife Andrea J. Davis of Gladys; a sister, Ruby D. McCormick of Danville; three grandsons, Jonathan, Kendall, and Kyle.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m Saturday August 14, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with Pastor Roy Burket officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Highland Burial Park, Danville.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Anne Ashworth White
Anne Ashworth White, 77, died Tuesday, August 24th, after a prolonged illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. and Jennie B. Ashworth of Lynchburg, VA and Englewood, FL. Anne was a resident of Lynchburg for 43 years. She was also a resident of Englewood, FL for over thirty years. Anne was the widow of Norvell Woodson White, to whom she was married
for over 50 years. While in Lynchburg, she pursued many activities from helping at her parent’s store, teaching Sunday School at Centenary United Methodist Church, to gardening and flower arranging. After moving to Florida and until retirement, she worked in banking and participated in associated professional organizations. Anne is survived by two sons, N. Woodson (Woody) White, Jr and his wife Pam, of Goode, VA and Richard Ashworth White of Miami, FL. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brian W. White and wife Cindy, Ian A. White and wife Sarah, and Karyn P. Butler, and husband Chris, and one great granddaughter, Lucy Butler.

W. Kent Brent
W. Kent Brent, 64, of 186 Farmers Joy Lane, Arrington, died Friday, August 20, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Alice Story (Kathy) Brent.
Born April 23, 1940 in Nelson County, he was the son of the late Bill and Bernice Wilson Brent. Kent was a self employed Professional Photographer, a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran and a member of Westview Baptist Church.
Kent is survived by one son, William Kent Brent, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Otis Brent and his wife, Jean and Jim Brent, both of Arrington; one sister, Ann Ronk; his mother-in-law, Nellie Story, sister-in-law, Christine Adams, all of Lynchburg and a special niece, Cindy Warren of Bailey, CO.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. John Ragland. Interment will follow in the Brent Family cemetery, Farmers Joy Lane.

Peggy Ann McKenna Coalson
Peggy Ann McKenna Coalson, 76, of 1703 Avondale Drive, Altavista, died Friday, August 20, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Earl E. Coalson.
Born January 13, 1928 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late John Dallas and Bessie Hall McKenna. Mrs. Coalson was retired from General Electric and attended Sandusky Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Wood and one brother, J.D. McKenna
Mrs. Coalson is survived by three sons, Bobby Coalson and his wife, Robin and Keith Coalson and his wife, Susan, both of Lynchburg and Todd Coalson and his wife, Tammy of Altavista; three sisters, Barbara Markham and her husband, J.W. of Gladys, Nancy Webster of Pleasant View, and Brenda Campbell of Forest; seven grandchildren, Leonard Brian Coalson, Jamie Petreece Coalson, Kesler Dallas Coalson, McKenna Holt Coalson, Cassie Lee Ellen Coalson, Trevor Earl Coalson, and Cayla Ann Coalson and two great-grandchildren, Alison Zimmerman and Jacob Landry.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Sam Caldwell. Interment will follow in Presbyterian cemetery.

Thomas B. “Pappy” Breedlove
Thomas B. “Pappy” Breedlove, 92, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Born September 2, 1911, in Oxford, NC, he was a son of the late Clarence Joseph and Maggie Hunter Rice Breedlove. Mr. Breedlove was a member of the Union Christian Church. Hr was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post 16 and was a retired United States Army Air force Veteran having served in Korea and WW II.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Breedlove was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Camilla Daniel Breedlove, two daughters, Camilla B. Moon and her husband Sayford H. Moon of Lynchburg and Jane B. Fulper and her husband George of Myrtle Beach, SC, three grandchildren; Camilla Thomas Kaiser of Tyler, TX, David C. Dudley, Jr. and Janie Elizabeth Camilla Dudley, both of Amherst.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, by the Reverend John H. Kinnard.
