Warren Joseph Harris, Jr.

Warren Joseph Harris, Jr., 47, of 422 Seminole Drive, Madison Heights, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Ruby Ryan Harris.

Born November 15, 1956 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, he was the son of Frances Schrader Harris of Lynchburg and the late Warren Joseph Harris, Sr. He was a U.S. navy veteran.

In addition to his wife and mother, Warren is survived by two children, Danielle Harris and Warren Anthony Harris, both of North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Faye Love of Lynchburg and Meghan Viar of Monroe; one sister, Deborah Droog and her husband, Charlie of Evington; one brother, Vernon Harris of Madison Heights; three grandchildren and one uncle, Lester P. Harris of Lynchburg.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Larry Davies, Pastor of Timberlake United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service until 9:00 p.m.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the needs of the family.

Margaret Ellen Mays

Margaret Ellen Mays, 61, of 202 Orchard Drive, Madison Heights, died Tuesday, August 03, 2004 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of Dr. Claude Wayne Mays.

Born November 26, 1942 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of John Pershing and Margaret Camden Mays of Madison Heights. Mrs. Mays was a Computer Programmer with Framatome ANP, a member of the Madison Heights Rebekah Lodge #22, and Madison Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by one son, Dr. Brian Edward Mays of Lynchburg; one daughter, Catherine Mays Patrick and her husband, Randall of Fairfax; two brothers, Donald L. Mays and his wife, Joanie of Gilroy, CA and David L. Mays and his wife, Jean of Farmville; one grandson, Nathan Charles Patrick; two special friends, Donna Massie and Margaret Leggett and many devoted friends from Framatome.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Madison Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Timothy Madison. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence.

Jordan Curtis Myers

Jordan Curtis Myers, infant son of Michael Curtis Myers and Kristy Lucadamo Myers of Goode, went home to be with the Lord, on Weds., Nov. 8, 2006.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Jazmine Mays of Goode; paternal grandparents, Howard and Hilda Myers of Lynchburg; maternal grandparents, Darren and Gwen Lucadamo of Lynchburg; paternal great grandmother, Lucille Page of Lynchburg; and two uncles, Brian Myers and wife Lisa and A. J. Lucadamo both of Lynchburg.

A graveside service will be conducted on Mon., Nov. 13, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Jonathan Falwell.

Whitten Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Timberlake Chapel, 434-239-0331, is assisting the family.

Annie Florence Stern Mason

Annie Florence Stern Mason, 98, of Lynchburg, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 15, 2002 at the Carrington. She was the widow of the late John Edgar Mason.

Born July 5, 1904 in Charlotte County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Stern and the late Mary Marshall Stern. Mrs. Mason was a member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church.

She is survived by: her son; Robert E. Mason and wife Juanita of Vinton, her two daughters; Phyllis M. Hall and husband Sam and Margaret M. Proehl and husband Kenneth both of Lynchburg, six grandchildren; Deborah Hall, Sammy Hall, Pam Hubbard, Kenny Proehl, Tracy Shelton and Gary Proehl, seven great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren, two sisters; Alice Beeler of Lynchburg and Elizabeth Keesee and husband Aubrey of Lawrenceville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2002 at Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Barry Burkholder. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church cemetery in Charlotte County.

Friends and family may call from 3 – 4:30 p.m., Sunday, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Clarence Francis "Larry" Powers

Clarence Francis "Larry" Powers, 78, of Lynchburg died Monday, January 27, 2003 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband for 50 years of Mary Isabel Marshall Powers.

Larry was born May 25, 1924 in Boston, Mass, the son of the late Harold Powers and Mary Besso Powers. He retired as a Naval Inspector for the Department of Defense at Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear and was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II being involved in the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach and the Normandy offensive. He also was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David J. Powers of Land o' Lakes, FL. and Stephen M. Powers of Manchester, NH; two grandchildren, Aaron J. Powers and Megan Blair Powers; one brother, Harold Griffin of Georgetown, MA and a sister, Barbara Roy of Burlington, Mass.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Holy Cross Catholic Church.

At Larry's request, his ashes will be buried at sea by the U.S. Navy.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

Whitten Park Avenue Chapel is serving the Powers family.

Emory Carlyle Justis, Sr.

Emory Carlyle Justis, Sr., 97, of Perrymont Ave., died Thursday October 23, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Clara Minnick Justis.

Born May 10, 1906 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late William C. Justis, Sr. and

Minnie Justis. In addition, he was preceded in death by five brothers, William Jr., Eddie,

Lawrence, Homer, and Aubrey Justis and two sisters, Dot Gravely and Odessa Trent.

Mr. Justis was a retired engineer for the Norfolk & Western Rail Road and a devoted follower of The Old Time Gospel Hour.

He is survived by a daughter, Joycelyn Wood and her husband Bill of Roanoke; a son, Emory C. “Chip” Justis and his wife Sandy of Rustburg; a sister, Roberta Staton of Lynchburg; a special sister-in-law, Lillian M. Peters of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Nancy Beard and her husband Curtis, Michael Wood and his wife Regina, Donnivan Justis and his wife Theresa and his loving grandson Emory “Chip” Justis, III and his wife Charlotte, who were devoted to his granddad during his latter years; three great-grand-grandchildren, Nathan, Blake, and Kinsley Justis.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday October 27, 2003 at Spring Hill cemetery, with Dr. Jerry Falwell officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road.

Bonnie Cox Smith

Bonnie Cox Smith, 64 of Amherst, passed away Saturday, December 04, 2004. She was the wife of Gordon Randall “Randy” Smith.

Born July 31, 1940 in Wise County, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary Kilgore Cox.

Also surviving are two children; David L. Freeman of Pensacola, FL and Rose Marie Freeman of Fredonia, NY, two brothers; Jessie J. Cox, Jr. of Centerville and Buddy Joe Cox of Madison Heights, a daughter, Christine C. Rudd of Reva, four grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A private ceremony to scatter Mrs. Smith’s ashes will be held at a later date.

Lula May Johns Branham

Lula May Johns Branham, 69, of 4446 South Amherst Highway, Madison Heights, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005 at the Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of the late Walter Ollie Branham, Jr.

Born October 20, 1935 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Nettie Nuckols Johns. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother and homemaker. Mrs. Branham was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Ray Branham; two daughters, Delia Branham and Katherine Branham and one sister, Mary Mission Johns.

Mrs. Branham is survived by five children, Ray Branham of Amherst; Darlene Goff of Evington, Ricky Branham and his wife, Debra of Salem, Don Branham and his wife, Vicky of Lynchburg, and Bertha Riley and her husband, Tommy of Madison Heights; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Phyllis Hicks. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Curtis and Louise Branham, Bobby Goodman and Delores Ketchersid. The family would also like to thank the Mundy 5 nursing staff and Dr. Dwight Oldham and his staff, for the care and compassion given to Mrs. Branham.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Virginia Hudson Sprouse

Virginia Hudson Sprouse, of 2133 Broadway Street, went to her heavenly home on Monday January 27, 2003.

She was the wife of George Anthony Sprouse for over 62 years. Born in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Hattie Carwile Hudson and Samuel Vaughan Hudson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille H. Carwile, and two brothers, Addison (Addie) V. Hudson and W.L. (Buck) Hudson.

Mrs. Sprouse was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a member of Forest Road United Methodist Church. Besides her husband George, she is survived by her sons, Herbert A. Sprouse and wife Brenda of Herndon, and Bernard J. Sprouse and wife Jane of Madison Heights; two grandsons, Gregory and Stephen Sprouse of Herndon, two granddaughters, Laura Atkins and husband Daniel of Greenville, SC. and Terry Nash and husband Greg of Lynchburg; one great-granddaughter, Alana Atkins of Greenville, SC., her brother- in law, Charles Sprouse and wife Marjorie of Lynchburg; a sister-in-law, Mrs. W.L. (Agnes) Hudson of Stony Creek and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday January 29, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. James Siddons. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Reneé Annette Jones

Reneé Annette Jones, 36, of Rustburg, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 from injuries received in an automobile accident. She was the wife of Troy Angus Jones.

Born in Vallejo, Calif., March 30, 1968, she was the daughter George Runkle of Fairfield, Calif. and Laura Annette Kolda Runkle of Vallejo, Calif.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by three children Stephanie Rouse, Robert Osbourne and Roxanne Osbourne all of Lynchburg; her maternal grandmother, Virginia C. Kolda of Vallejo, Calif; her paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Runkle of Fairfield, Calif.; her aunt and uncle, Debbie and Walter Runkle and a number of cousins; additional survivors include her mother in law, Cynthia Dunivan Roberts; Cynthia's fiancée Willie Hardy and parents, Lindsay and Margaret Dunivan all of Rustburg and one brother in law, Michael Lee Hoskins of Rustburg.

A memorial service celebrating Reneé's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.

The family request memorial contributions be made to the Renee Jones Memorial Fund, C/O Central National Bank, 3515 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Callie Coleman Wright

Callie Coleman Wright, 88, of Madison Heights, passed away Friday, September 10, 2004, at Avante of Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late Earl Blankenship Wright.

Born August 17, 1916, in Amherst County, she was a daughter of the late George and Lula Coleman Sr.

Mrs. Wright was also preceded in death by one brother, George W. Coleman, Jr., and three sisters; Catherine Coleman, Mabel C. Wood and Jeanette C. Gartley.

Survivors include one son, Rev. Lynwood E. Wright of Madison Heights, two brothers; Everett Coleman and Cecil Coleman, both of Madison Heights, two sisters; Selma C. Tucker of Lynchburg and Mary C. Padgett of Petersburg, VA, a special nephew, Dan Selleck of Lynchburg and a very special friend, Ruth Showalter of Gladstone, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Joe Wilkins and Reverend Paul Campbell assisting. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions may consider the Lynchburg Church of God, of which, she was a member.

Mary Catherine Smith Simpson

Mary Catherine Smith Simpson, 69 of Gladstone, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004.

Born October 16, 1935 in Fincastle, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Hattie Collins Smith.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Wilson.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Richards and fiancé John Allen Campbell of Evington, five Grandchildren; William E. Harris and wife Valerie of Kings, NC, James Albert Richards of Evington, Josephine Olivia Frazier and husband James of Gladstone, Jack Richards III and wife Michelle of Evington, Tina Mechell Frazier and husband Timmy of Farmville, twelve great grandchildren, Catherine, Mark, Cody, Mikie, James, Jr., Amanda, Caitlyn, Andrew, Ian, Craig, Noah, and Jareth, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday, December 3, 2004 at 12:00 noon at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, by the Reverend Herbert S. Jones and the Reverend Clayle Daniels.

Friends and family are invited to the home of Linda Richards and John Campbell following services at the grave.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
