Donald Ray Couch, 59, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2003 at his home.
Born August 13, 1943, in Russell County, he was the son of the late Lerta Gordon Couch and the late Virgie Elam Couch.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Couch was preceded in death by a son; Gregory A. Couch.
Mr. Couch is survived by: his wife of 36 years; Doris Wade Couch of Lynchburg, two sons; Danny L. Couch and wife Karen and Michael R. Couch both of Lynchburg, three grandsons; Danny L. Couch, Jr., Brian Couch and Brandon Couch all of Lynchburg, a brother; Gerald M. Couch of Ellicott City, MD, three sisters; Bobbie C. Holley of Cedar Lake, IN, and Shirley C. Custus and Ethel Arlene Goding both of Ellicott City, MD.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday February 11, 2003 at Fort Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum by Pastor Marvin Suitt, Pastor of Living Word Baptist Church.
Family and friends are invited to stop by the family home at 2367 Mosby Ave., Lynchburg on Monday.
Alice Odell Doss Crawley
Alice Odell Doss Crawley, 95, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She was the widow of the late Richard Crawley.
Born March 14, 1908 in Appomattox County, she was the daughter of the late James Ruben Doss and the late Lilly Harris Doss. She was a member of Fairview Christian Church, the Ageless Wonders and Rebekah Lodge 52.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Crawley was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law; Ahart and Frances Crawley.
She is survived by: two sons and daughters-in-law; Reid and Barbara Crawley and Raymond and Joyce Crawley all of Lynchburg, three grandchildren; Cindy Crawley Campbell and husband Dennis of Greer, SC, Dennis Crawley and wife Jenny of Campbell County and Susan Crawley Fife and husband Jeff of Waynesboro, six great grandchildren; Samuel and Megan Crawley both of Campbell County, Christopher and Rebekah Campbell of Greer, SC and Brant and Jeffrey David Fife, II of Waynesboro.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Hattie Lowery Long
Hattie Lowery Long, 89, of Forest, passed away Friday January 2, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the widow of Melvin Henry Long.
Born May 15, 1914 in Alton, she was a daughter of the late Walter Green Lowery and the late Maggie Lee Ford Lowery, in addition she was preceded in death by five brothers, Richard, Clarence, and Bryant Lowery of South Boston, Joe and John Lowery of Petersburg, and four sisters, Willie Claiborne and Ella Morris of Alton, Laura Wood and Mary Kincaid of Oxford, NC.
Mrs. Long was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a member of Harmony Methodist Church of Alton and formerly worked for K-Mart in their grocery store before her retirement.
Surviving are her sons, Howard G. Long of Forest and M.B.“Bill ”Long of Lynchburg; her daughter, Gladys Long Faulconer and her husband Howard Faulconer, Jr. of Forest; a sister, Rebecca Claiborne of Alton; a brother, George Lowery and his wife Jeanita of Chester; two grandchildren, Zane P. Finley of Forest and Howard L. Faulconer, III., and his wife Doris Teresa Faulconer of Cary, NC., her special great-grandson, Zachary M. Coffey of Forest, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday January 5, 2004, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy, pastor of Beulah Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road.
Helen Driskill Brooks
Helen Driskill Brooks, 78, of 105 Roberts Avenue, Lynchburg, died Friday, August 6, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. Twice married
, she was the wife of Charles Edward Brooks and the late Russell Herman Driskill, Sr.
Born June 3, 1926 in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Paris and Laura Seldomridge Marrs. Mrs. Brooks was retired from General Electric, where she was also a member of the G.E. Retirement Club. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Rustburg.
In addition to her first husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Randy Driskill.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brooks is survived by two sons, Russ Driskill, Jr. and his wife, Jacki of Dayton, VA and Joe Driskill and his wife, Wendy of Rustburg; one step-son, Steve Brooks and his wife, Peggy of Lynchburg; one step-daughter, Linda Reynolds and her husband, Tommy of Forest; three sisters, Florence Judy of Saint Albans, West Virginia, Marie Higgins of Arizona, and Ann Howard of Holland, PA; four grandchildren, Jason Driskill, Scott Driskill, Kimberly Driskill, and Dwight Driskill and two step-grandchildren, Lorrie Boling and Justin Brooks.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Gary L. Vernon. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion U.M. Church cemetery, Rustburg.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Eura Wood Riley
Eura Wood Riley, 91, of Rustburg, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Herbert Watts Riley. Born May 20, 1915 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Eddie William Wood and the late Bessie Torrence Wood; also her brothers, Harold L. Wood, Dewey R. Wood and her grandson, Aubrey “Bill” Carwile, Jr. preceded her in death.
Mrs. Riley was a life long member of Rustburg Baptist Church and was a former member of the Rustburg Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son, Larry W. Riley of Rustburg; three daughters, Joyce R. Welch and husband Carroll of Madison Heights, Norma R. Carwile and husband Aubrey of Madison Heights, and Marilyn Creasy of Rustburg; nine grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2006 at Rustburg Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roger Roller and the Rev. Rick Cole officiating.
Burial will follow in Cumbie Memorial cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. today, at Rustburg Baptist Church.
A guest register may be signed at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, prior to visitation this evening.

Nancy Adelle Bragdon
Nancy Adelle Bragdon, 60, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Grace Lodge in Lynchburg.
Born December 30, 1942, in Brewer, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. Bragdon and the late Beatrice Fickett Bragdon. Miss Bragdon was a resident of the Altavista Adult Home and had recently moved to Grace Lodge.
She is survived by: her sister; Jane M. Parker and husband Jimmy of Clermont, FL, a nephew; Jeffrey D. Parker and wife Kitty of Forest, a niece; Janine M. Lascell of Bedford and six great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Etna, Maine.
Mary White Arthur
Mary White Arthur, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, June 01, 2003 at her home. She was the wife of the late Edward Earl Arthur. Mr. Arthur passed away May 6, 2003.
Born July 13, 1918 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late John Robert and Lucy Brooks White. Mrs. Arthur was retired from the Lynchburg Hosiery Mill and for many years, enjoyed working with the Goodwill. She was a member of Fairview Christian Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Eades, Louise Smith, and Irene Safewright.
Mrs. Arthur is survived by one sister, Isabelle Gallio of Fishersville; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Spring Hill cemetery by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.
Albert Earnest “Skip” Heiser, Jr.
Albert Earnest “Skip” Heiser, Jr., 65, of Forest, died Thursday January 1, 2004 at his residence following a lengthly illness.
Born October 27, 1938 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Albert Earnest Heiser, Sr. and Mary Louise Trent Heiser.
“Skip” was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School, and Fork Union Military Academy, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, retired from Rock- Tenn Co., a member of Sandusky Baptist Church, the Moose Lodge
# 715 and was a loyal and avid fan of U.VA. sports.
He is survived by his cousins, Shirley Trent Thomas and her husband Fred of Lynchburg, Claude Trent, Jr. and his wife Elouise of Charlottesville, Wistar Harris Trent and his wife Shannon of Richmond, Rosa Trent Thompson and her husband Butch of Greenville, SC., Pam Reim and her husband Walter of Oregon, and his dear friend, Ann Mayberry of Lynchburg.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday January 5, 2004 in Presbyterian cemetery, with Pastor H.B. Enochs, Jr. officiating.
Friends will be received from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road.
Marie Nance Jefferson
Marie Nance Jefferson, 62, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday April 7, 2004 at Medical Care Center. She was the widow of Allie Guyer Jefferson, Jr.
Born February 3, 1942 in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Frank Lee Nance and Clarice McManaway Nance. Her brother, William Nance also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jefferson was a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Allie G. Jefferson, III and his wife Mariana of El Paso, TX, Franklin L. Jefferson and his wife Tina of Lynchburg, and
Brian K. Jefferson of Charlotte, NC.; three brothers, Howard Nance and his wife Shirley of Forest, Walter Nance and his wife Lee of Lynchburg, and Robert Nance of Bedford; two sisters, Betty Nance of Lynchburg and Carol Bush and her husband Bill of Forest; a grandson, Brandon Jefferson of Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday April 9, 2004 at Timberlake United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Larry Davies. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Bernard Edison "Ed" Doss
Bernard Edison "Ed" Doss, 86, of Amherst, died Thursday, January 20, 2005 in Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home in Amherst. Twice married
, he was the husband of Nancy Schmitt Doss and the late Eunice Cumbie Doss.
Born September 12, 1918 in Appomattox County, he was the son of the late Lewis L. and Bernice Blackwell Doss. He was the retired former owner & operator of the Jumbo Restaurant, The Hilltop Restaurant, the Virginia Supper Club, Club Avalon, which was located in Appomatox, and the Western Auto, which was located in Madison Heights. An avid hunter, Mr. Doss was a member of the Oak Grove Hunt Club. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ollie Doss, Paul Doss, and Henry Doss.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Doss is survived by one son Harry L. Doss and his wife and very special daughter-in-law to Mr. Doss, Betty of Amherst; two daughters, Pamela D. Baucom of Lovettsville and Suzanne Hahn and her husband, Jason of Cooke City, MT; one sister, Ruby D. Navarro of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Harry L. Doss, Jr. of Amherst, Cheryl D. Scott and her husband, Edward of Lynchburg, and Angela D. Leuck and her husband, Daryl of Lovettsville and four great-grandchildren, Harry L. Doss, III, Brittney Doss, Mason Leuck, and Stella Hahn.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Presbyterian cemetery by the Rev. Charlie E. Spencer.

John Harvey Deaco
John Harvey Deacon, 86, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, May 01, 2005 in Lynchburg General Hospital. Twice married
, he was the husband of the late Mildred Spiggle Deacon and the late Ruby Baldwin Deacon.
Born May 5, 1918 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Jessie George Deacon, Sr. and the late Maud Stinnett Deacon. He was retired from Craddock & Terry Shoe Corp. and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. John was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
John is survived by two daughters, Pat Elder and her husband, Jerry and Judy Brooks; one son, J.K. Deacon and his wife, Pat, all of Lynchburg; five step-children, Linda Lester and her husband, Joe, also of Lynchburg, Laura Hogan and her husband, Dave of Evington, Rose Tillman and her husband, John of Lynchburg, J.R. Webber and Larry Webber and his wife, Becky, both of Evington; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Spring Hill cemetery by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton.
