Calvin Terrell Rogers
Calvin Terrell Rogers, 75 of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2005. He was the husband of the late Annie Fisher Rogers.
Born September 23, 1929, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Wister and Lucille Wood Rogers. Mr. Rogers was retired from the City of Lynchburg after 33 years of service and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Cox and Wanda McGinnis Cooper, and a brother, Wister L. Rogers.
Survivors include a step-son, Curtis Fisher and wife Joyce of Lynchburg, a devoted sister-in-law, Grace J. Adams and husband George of Lynchburg, a sister, Joyce R. Ramsey and husband Bryant of Madison Heights, a brother, Charles “Buddy” Rogers of
Melbourne, FL, aunt and uncle, Dorothy Parsons and husband Tommy, aunt, Margaret Sublett, and aunt, Arlene Irby, all of Lynchburg, two step-granddaughters and three step-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Dale Long. Interment will take place in Fort Hill Memorial park.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and at other times at the residence of Joyce and Bryant Ramsey.

Jack W. Stanley
Jack W. Stanley, 73, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Avante of Lynchburg.
Born August 30, 1931 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Jim and Etta Brown Stanley.
Mr. Stanley is survived by one brother, William Stanley of Lynchburg; one sister, Ruby Jordan of Staunton and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at Spring Hill cemetery by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton.

Willie Howard Goins
Willie Howard Goins, 69, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, February 18, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born March 8, 1933 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Joseph David and Rainey Elder Goins. He was retired from the City of Lynchburg and a member of Leawood Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Goins Wingfield and one brother, Joseph Edward Goins.
Mr. Goins is survived by three sisters, Jospehine Goins Campbell and Mary Goins Hogan, both of Lynchburg and Corrine Goins Spoon of Baltimore, Maryland; six nephews and four nieces.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Meade cemetery by the Rev. Lenn E. Lloyd.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and other times at the home of his sister, Mary, 7125 Suncrest Drive, Lynchburg.
Clyde Thomas Doss
Clyde Thomas Doss, 80, of Lynchburg, died Thursday June 5, 2003 at his residence.
Twice married
, his first wife was the late Virginia Wooden Doss and his second wife was Nellie Caven Doss, who died in December of 2000.
Born November 19, 1922 in Campbell County, he was a son of the late Albert Sidney Doss and Willie Francis Doss, and preceded in death by his son, Terry Lee Doss and brothers, Robert, Garland, and Willie Doss.
Mr. Doss served with the U.S.Army Air Corp during W.W.II, he was a retired machinest with over 40 years employment with Lynchburg Foundry, and a member of Fairview Christian Church.
He is survived by his children, David Doss, Cathy Doss, J.T. Doss, and Becky Silby; sisters; Flora Walker and Lillian Turner grandchildren; Shannon, John, and Jimmy Silby, Tommy, Michael, and Katie Doss, and Elizabeth Parker; great-granddaughter, Dianna Silby.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. Robert W. Rueter, pastor of Fairview Christian Church. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park, with military honors by the American Legion Post # 16.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence, 4632 Fort Ave.

Frances Inge Gilbert
Frances Inge Gilbert, of Madison Heights, passed away Friday, September 19, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Osborne W. “Fuzzy” Gilbert who passed away May 13, 1999.
She was born in Bedford County, the daughter of the late Thomas Albert Inge and the late Roberta Leftwich Inge. Mrs. Gilbert had retired from Dudi Duds Garment, she was a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church and the Early Morning Walkers at the mall.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by a son Albert W. “Buck” Gilbert and by a daughter, Frances Marie Fulks.
She is survived by a son Richard L. Gilbert and wife Linda of Madison Heights, six grandchildren, Brenda Moore, Dana Jackson, Jonathan Gilbert, Alan Gilbert, Jennifer Gilbert and Reed Fulks, two great granddaughters, Crystal Morris and Tiffany Fulks.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 22, 2003 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Rev. L. Grant Carter. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., today, at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her son at 153 Jane Terrace, Madison Heights.

Mollie Shields Neighbors
Mollie Shields Neighbors, 89, of Lynchburg, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the widow of the late Rev. Albert Earl Neighbors.
Born in Pittsylvania County on January 11, 1914, the daughter of the late John Thomas Shields and the late Hattie Tuck Shields. Mrs. Neighbors was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Rustburg.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Rev. Gene T. Neighbors and Shirley N. Strickland; and by six brothers.
She is survived by eight children, Elsie (Thomas) Harvey of Lynchburg, Albert (Eunice) Neighbors, Jr., of Rustburg, Peggy (Robert) St. John of Lynchburg, Frances (Randolph) Arthur of Charlotte, NC, Joanne (Cecil) Austin of Lynchburg, Jimmy (Bobbie) Neighbors of Forest, Michael (Donna) Neighbors of Goode, Carolyn N. Layne and Donna (Greg) Coffee both of Lynchburg; 35 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; 7 great, great grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Shields Yeatts of Gretna and Virginia Shields Tuck of Pittsville; a brother J.T. (Shirley) Shields, Jr. of Chatham.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 11, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Dr. David N. Smeltz, Pastor, Faith Baptist Church, Rustburg. Interment will follow in the Neighbors Family cemetery.
Family visitation will be from 7 – 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter Peggy St. John, 28 Neighbors Place, Lynchburg.

George Franklin Gooch
George Franklin Gooch, 68, of 139 Abbitts Drive, Madison Heights, died Sunday, April 11, 2004 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara Cofflin Gooch for forty-six years.
Born February 22, 1936 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Deismore Thomas Gooch, Sr. and the late Mary Taylor Gooch. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry after thirty-four years of service and was presently employed as an Associate with Walmart in Madison Heights. Mr. Gooch was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Madison Heights.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Deismore T. Gooch, Jr. and Lewis C. Gooch.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gooch is survived by four children, the Rev. James “Frank” Gooch and his wife, Debbie of Richmond, Robin Coble and her husband, Lec of Tucson, AZ, Vickie Womack and her husband, James and Daryl Gooch, both of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Kristy Gooch, Tiffany Gooch, Sara Womack, Megan Womack, and A.J. Womack and three sisters, Florence Cash of Evington, Emma Mays of Monroe, and Helen White of Madison Heights.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Temple Baptist Church, Madison Heights, by Pastor J.D. Surbaugh, Jr. and Assoc. Pastor Tim Kinney. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Temple Baptist Church and other times at the residence.

Fred A. Burnett
Fred A. Burnett, 56, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at his residence.
Born January 27, 1947 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late William Burnett and the late Mildred Thomas Burnett. He was a member of Fair Haven Bible Church and was employed many years at the Burris Lumber Co.
Fred is survived by: three brothers; Homer, Paul and Michael Burnett all of Campbell county and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, February 23, 2003 at the Fair Haven Bible Church, 1101 Main Street, Madison Heights by the Reverend Carl K. Farmer.

Mark Curtiss Hailey
Mark Curtiss Hailey, 59, of Amherst, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003. He was the husband of Vicki V. Hailey.
Born in Lynchburg, September 16, 1943, he was a son of Amy Hughes Hailey of Amherst and the late John L. Hailey. Mark was a former quality control manager with Lynchburg Steel. Additionally, was a member of the adjunct faculty with CVCC. He was also a former chairman and member of the Vocational Educational Committee with Amherst County High School, an active volunteer with Holy Cross School and was a member of the American Welding Society. Mark was an active member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church where he had served as vestry member and warden. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was also active with the Madison Height Dixie Youth Baseball Association.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Victor Curtiss Hailey and one daughter Erinn Leigh Hailey both of Amherst; one sister, Judy L. Hailey and her son Walter Watson of Penn.; one brother, John Michael Hailey and his son Michael of Penn.; and one brother in law, Michael Valitsky and his wife Mary and children Tara and Kate all of Geneva, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by one nephew, Jody Watson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

J. Warren Smoot
J. Warren Smoot, 82, of Forest, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margie Thomasson Smoot.
Born in Lynchburg on August 27, 1921, he was the son of the late Manning Smoot and the late Ruth Hancock Smoot. Mr. Smoot was a long time member of Fairview Christian Church. He was a loving husband and father and he loved his dogs, Jinny, Benji and Sassy T.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Margaret Olivia Smoot of Forest; a half-brother, Doug Wells; three step sisters, Grace Speigle, Margaret Wells and Dorothy Cox.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family.
Whitten Timberlake Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.

Helen Coleen Campbell
Helen Coleen Campbell, 77, of Lynchburg, passed away, Wednesday, August 11, 2004. Born September 23, 1926, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward H. and Annie Seamster Talley. Mrs. Campbell was also preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Campbell.
Mrs. Campbell attended Gospel Baptist Church and was a member of The Salvation Army.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Childress and her husband Roger, two sons;
John J. Campbell and Joseph Campbell and his wife Roxanne, all of Lynchburg, a stepson, David “Pete” Fisher Campbell, eight grandchildren; Roger Campbell, John and Ann Childress, Beth Johnson, Christina Campbell, Joe, Avery and Matt Campbell, five great grandchildren; Roger Campbell, Jr. and Taylor Campbell, Blake Johnson, Hope and Faith Childress, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel by the Reverend Carl B. Mills. Interment will be at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
