Calvin Terrell Rogers
Calvin Terrell Rogers, 75 of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2005. He was the husband of the late Annie Fisher Rogers.
Born September 23, 1929, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Wister and Lucille W. Rogers McGinnis. Mr. Rogers was retired from the City of Lynchburg after 33 years of service and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Cox and Wanda McGinnis Cooper, and a brother, Wister L. Rogers.
Survivors include a step-son, Curtis Fisher and wife Joyce of Lynchburg, a devoted sister-in-law, Grace J. Adams and husband George of Lynchburg, a sister, Joyce R. Ramsey and husband Bryant of Madison Heights, a brother, Charles “Buddy” Rogers of Melbourne, FL, aunt and uncle, Dorothy Parsons and husband Tommy, aunt, Margaret Sublett, and aunt, Arlene Irby, all of Lynchburg, two step-granddaughters and three step-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Dale Long. Interment will take place in Fort Hill Memorial park.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and at other times at the residence of Joyce and Bryant Ramsey.

Charles Ray Howell
Charles Ray Howell, 67, of Lynchburg, died Monday, May 9, 2005 at The Hospice House.
Born July 13, 1937 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Artwin Howell and the late Thelma Nance Howell Brooks. He served in the US Air Force from 1955-1959, and was a retired construction worker.
He is survived by: one brother, Edgar Mack Brooks of Lynchburg; two sisters: Delores "Bunny" Howell Adams of Richmond and Teadye "Cookie" Susan Howell of Montpelier; and three nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2005 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton. Interment, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 16, will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

Annie Howard Glass
Annie Howard Glass, 90, of Frederick, MD and formerly of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare in Frederick, MD.
Born October 10, 1912 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Dee Howard and the late Katie Walker Howard. She was a former member of Fairview Christian Church in Lynchburg and a member of First Christian Church in Frederick, MD. Ms. Glass was a retired administrative clerk at the International Association of Machinist’s Union.
Ms. Glass is survived by: two daughters; Janice G. Miner of Frederick, MD, and Marie G. Edwards and husband Allan of Snellville, GA, a sister; Carol Baker of Colonial Beach, VA, a sister-in-law; Ada Howard of Madison Heights, four grandchildren; David Miner, Beverly Kreer, Wayne Edwards and Karen Reaves, four great grandchildren; Wendy Payne, April Shelton, Natalie Miner and Michael Edwards and six great, great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2003 at the Fort Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Family visitation will be from 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Mary Price McDaniel
Mary Price McDaniel, 87, of Lynchburg., died Saturday, January 10, 2004 in the Lynchburg Health & Rehab Center. She was the wife of the late Garrett Wilson McDaniel.
Born September 14, 1916 in Buckingham County, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Lillie Harvey Price. Mrs. McDaniel was the retired owner & operator of Mary's Grocery. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Price.
Mrs. McDaniel is survived by one brother, Robert W. Price, Sr. of Lynchburg: one niece, Judy Mays of Spout Spring and two nephews, Robert Price, Jr. of Gladys and Jerry Wayne Price of Bedford and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2004 at Spring Hill cemetery by the Rev. Carlton Duck.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. today at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and other times at the home of her brother, 1321 Hendricks Ave.
Earl Ward Proffitt
Earl Ward Proffitt, 90, of Madison Heights, passed away, Friday, August 13, 2004, at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rachel Clements Proffitt.
Born August 28, 1913, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Richard Earl and Phonia White Proffitt.
Mr. Proffitt was a World War II Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy and was retired from the Old Dominion Box Company and was a member of New Beginning Tabernacle Church in Madison Heights.
One sister, Audrey Wright, also preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Patricia Wilson and husband James and Virginia Watts, two sons; Wallace Proffitt and wife Lillian and Michael Proffitt and wife Gypsy, three half brothers; Tom Proffitt, Clayton Proffitt and Dewy Proffitt, three half sisters; Helen Robbins, Evelyn "Sis" Fitzgerald and Inez Tyree, two brothers; Manson "Big Red" Proffitt and Carrington "Clyde" Proffitt, all of Madison Heights, ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one step-grandson, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, by the Reverend Gary L. Moore. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Charles Randolph Thompson
Charles Randolph "Mountain Man" Thompson, 70, passed away Friday, January 28, 2005, at his home, 1421 Mob Creek Rd. in Bedford, with his family and friends by his side.
Born April 17, 1934, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late Nelson Rudolph Thompson and Mary Francis Thompson. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and a retired truck driver. His hobbies included collecting knives, guns, and Civil War memorabilia, playing music with his guitar, and spending time with his numerous friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce A. Thompson, of Bedford County; two daughters, Shelby J. Griffin of Lynchburg and Tamra "Tammy" J. Adkins of Rustburg; three sons, David N. "Chopper" Thompson of Bedford, Charles Allen Thompson and wife Jennifer of Lynchburg, and Steven Tucker Thompson and wife Holly of Rustburg; six brothers, Malcolm R. Thompson, Russell L. Thompson, Layman "Mike" Thompson and Walter "Joe" Thompson, all of Lynchburg, Percy R. Thompson, of Rustburg and John C. Thompson, of Monroe; three sisters, Mable J. Krantz and Mildred A. Godsey, both of Lynchburg, and Mary J. Thompson of Richmond, a very loving friend, Brenda G. Stadding of Rustburg, one aunt, Rosa T. Hunter of Lynchburg, ten grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 31, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Reverend Timothy Wilde. Interment will take place in Mt. View cemetery in Nelson County.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Audrey Doss Millner
Audrey Doss Millner, 86, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2003 at Our Lady of Hope in Richmond. She was the widow of the late William Lawson Millner.
Born September 20, 1916 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Doss and the late Bertha Oliver Doss. Mrs. Millner was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Millner is survived by: a son; Ron Millner and his wife Loretta of Key West, Florida, three daughters; Carolyn Kinney and husband Ray of Virginia Beach, Elaine Roorda and husband Jim of Riverside, CA and Ellie Smith of Richmond, two brothers; Desmond T. Doss of Lookout Mountain, GA and Harold Doss of Martinsburg, WV, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fort Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mary Dean Conley
Mary Dean Conley, 61, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She is the widow of the late Morton Holt Conley.
Born in Lynchburg, July 30, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Frank Benjamin Dean and Carrie Fitzgerald Dean. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hilda Evans and Claudia Venable.
Mary was a retired aide for Central Virginia Training Center after 25 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Concord, VA.
She is survived by two sons, Raymon Conley and Bobby Conley both of Lynchburg and one daughter, Diane Conley of Lynchburg.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 P.M. Monday, June 9, 2003 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church cemetery, Concord, VA, by the Reverend Paul Mason.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. today at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.
Alyne Withers Merryman Merryman
Alyne Withers Merryman Merryman, 98, of Rustburg, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2003 at her home.
She was born August 14, 1905 in Campbell County, the daughter of the late John Osce Merryman and the late Alice Withers Merryman. Mrs. Merryman was magistrate for Campbell County prior to her retirement and she was a member of Whites United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Merryman was preceded in death by her husband John Fleming Merryman, Sr. and by her son John Fleming “Jack” Merryman, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ethel Merryman, two grandchildren, John F. “Rusty” Merryman, III and his wife Mary Lee and Elizabeth M. “Betsy” Mullins and her husband Andy, and four great grandchildren, Jonathan and Stephen Merryman and Travis and Colton Mullins all of Rustburg.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 22, 2003 at Spring Hill cemetery.
Family visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m., Sunday, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
Owen Wayne “Butch” Coleman
Owen Wayne “Butch” Coleman, 60, of Lynchburg died Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Peggy P. Coleman.
Born in Lynchburg, August 27, 1943 he was a son of the late Owen T. and Bessie Kirby Coleman. He was employed with Jim Martin Pontiac, Buick, GMC. Butch was a U.S. Army veteran and served during Viet Nam. He was a member of the Virginia Defense force, the Vietnam Veterans of America and Moose Lodge # 715.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepchildren, Tina Tyree of Lynchburg and David Mitchell of Kissimmee, Fla.; two brothers, Ronald E. Coleman of Lynchburg and Marshall L. “Bud” Coleman of Madison Heights; one sister, Joyce C. Stinnett of Lynchburg; his mother-in-law Christine C. Padgett of Lynchburg and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Ken Tesch and Dr. Jerry Falwell will conduct a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.

Mary Phillips Tyree
Mary Phillips Tyree, 74, of Madison Heights died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Virginia Baptist Hospital after a short illness. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Homer S. Tyree.
Born in Campbell County, September 14, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Oscar L. and Lucy Miear Phillips. She was retired from Burris Department Store after 42 years of service. Mrs. Tyree was an active member of Madison Heights Baptist Church where she served as a primary Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Madison Heights Rebekah Lodge # 22, the Keenagers group, Koinonias (bell ringers) and a member of the Sunshine Club.
One sister, Betty Phillips and one brother, Thornton Phillips preceded her in death.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Stewart D. Tyree and his wife Roni and one grandson, Ashton Blake Tyree all of Lynchburg; two sisters, Catherine Phillips of Evington and Emma Woodford and her husband Fred of Huddleston; three brothers, Jack L. Phillips and his wife Dora, Lee O. Phillips and his wife Shirley and Tommy Phillips all of Evington; a special sister, Carolyn Martin of Evington; a sister in law, Thelma Phillips of Lynchburg and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday from Madison Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Timothy Madison officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
